9/14/35 "I have been rather unfortunate with the battery
and have been able to use it only one month in the spring...
I could perceive no effect from its use whatever, whether
I used it one-half hour or longer. I decided something must
be wrong with it and wrote Mr. R. N. Ladd asking him to stop
in and see me... He has never been here that I know of, so
I have not used the battery...
"I have had a most miserable, uninteresting summer, with too
much work to do and now I am suffering with neuritis in my
arms and lower back. I have had my teeth x-rayed but the
dentist can find no serious trouble necessitating extraction.
I hardly think there is anything wrong with my tonsils -
I hope not. However, I am feeling much better than a week
ago. I spent the latter part of August and first week of
Sept. at ..., Long Island. Perhaps the sea air did not agree
with me although it always has done me good before.
"We are still tied up financially although after much effort
I was able to secure enough money in a B. & L. Ass. to put
a house in shape to rent. I am thankful for that.
"I cannot afford at present to see you again in Va. Please
let me know when you are in N.Y. and I can see you there.
Perhaps you would be willing to suggest some simple remedy
for my pains and aches that would help until I could see you
again.
"Thanking you for what you have tried to do for me, and with
best wishes, I am"
Sincerely, [
