Dear Eddie:
I was glad to find out from the last Check Reading that I am
really to go to the Beach. Seeing the days go by without
getting on my crutches made me wonder if we might not have
to spend the summer here. There has been enough improvement
now to see daylight ahead, however, and we have merely
extended our lease until June 15. Unless something
interferes it is almost a certainty that I will be getting
around on my crutches, and can leave here by train. Mrs.
Townsend has about made up her mind to try the Beach for the
summer and she only needs the assurance that she will be able
to practise there. I wonder if you are acquainted with the
laws governing physio-therapists in Virginia, or whether
you can find out what is necessary? Mrs. Townsend has the
required diploma, etc., but some states require that an
examination be passed before a license is issued. At any
rate she is now planning to drive my car up and stay there
for the summer. This will be wonderful for me of course,
and I hope that it will prove practical and that she will
be able to make a living. Oddly enough she once lived at
Virginia Beach and passed her fourth birthday there.
It seems like a long time that I have been about this
business of getting well but it is something of a miracle
that I am getting well at all. I hope that I will be able to
be your Exhibit A at Congress. Even on crutches I will be
something to wonder at, like a man come back from the dead.
I hope that you have been taking it easy and that the lecture
in New York was a big success. Hugh Lynn certainly cannot
be accused of leading a dull life. One time we hear from
him he is a radio announcer and author. The next time he
is in the fur business. [See [
1000] series.] Never a dull
moment.
