11/03/41 "The other day I was thinking just what you wrote in
your letter - how we miss the little things. I miss so much
being close to you-all, and the work. I keep wondering who
is having readings today; what the readings have said of
interest; who has had a Life Reading lately; how the girls
are coming with their study of the glands...all those things
that seemed everyday necessities...now they are far off
riches. Believe me, you will never realize how uninteresting
the average person is - because you will never get away from
yourself and the work. It isn't that they bore me; it's just
that I feel, with a sickening plunk, how little they
understand themselves, the world, and God...and I realize how
fortunate I have been. Believe me, I don't complain about
things, when I realize what riches have been poured into my
life.
"Well, let us hope that can be done for many others, with the
help of the book. I feel very good about it, because my part
in it was so small - for that reason I have hopes for it.
Usually a writer can say, within himself, 'Dear God, here is
a little thing I have made. I hope it pleases you.' But
this time I can say, 'Dear God, here is a little thing my
friends have made. They are very dear people, and I know
you will like what they have done.'"
