12/03/42 Mr. [
849]'s letter:
H. L. has probably given you all the news. We got here O.K.;
in about five hours, and the trip was so much easier than I
expected; couldn't get a driver for Monday so we came Sunday
and took two Catholic U. boys along. We're still in a state
of chaos here but are gradually settling down. Thought it
would be wise now to have a Check R., as I am situated in the
climate and environment; massage isn't so good, so I'd like
to ask if as a substitute I could take Epsom baths in the tub
say, once a week. Only other thing really bothering me is my
sinus; since coming north they have given me a fit, constant
discharge and frequently bloody; could I ask what to do for
it? I've worn my faithful inhalant out, and need another.
Would you ask Gladys to call Bill M. and have him send me
another COD. Otherwise I'm walking fine, and when the
skeptics, newspapermen, etc. come to see you in the spring by
golly I'll be there to show them...too bad about John
O'Neill. If you have his address at Saranac I'll write
him...as one shut-in to another...waiting like a racehorse at
the post for that book to arrive...[
1102] and [
1521] send
love and [
5436] sends his regards...he is going to get two
of the books and send them as Xmas presents...
Love to all...want to catch the mail with this...haven't a
satisfactory typewriter table as yet...had to leave my little
one in Wash....no room in the car...doggonit the soldiers
have moved in HERE too. [

Have had a treatment here from a colored man, ex-W&L trainer,
but it was merely a rubdown...
