Mr. Edgar Cayce,
Virginia Beach, Va.
My dear Mr. Cayce:-
I deeply regret that you and your wife and stenographer were
arrested while in Detroit [See
254-89 Reports]. I feel that
it should never have occurred, since the Association of
Research & Enlightenment has been recognized by the Internal
Revenue Department as a charitable organization, and persons
contributing gifts to it are exempt from Federal Income Taxes
upon such gifts. I am sure that the arrest would never have
taken place if the authorities in Detroit were half as well
acquainted with you and with your work as I am.
As a former member of the Board of Trustees of the
Association for Research & Enlightenment I shall always be
interested in the work and want to see it prosper, and my
personal regard for you is even higher than my regard for
the Association, if such a thing is possible.
As you already know, I have not been engaged in the general
practice of law for the past three years, as I have been in
the employ of the United States Government in different
capacities. However, if you feel that you need me and want
me, and can make it convenient to come by way of Washington
in your car when on your way to Detroit for the trial, I will
gladly get leave of absence and go with you, and work to the
best of my ability to defend you and the others in the party,
and, of course, without any charge to you. I feel that this
is the least I can offer, as I feel that my wife owes her
life to the information received through you since she had
been given up by the physicians. However, I would need about
a week's notice in order to arrange my leave of absence.
If you feel that you will not need me, but can use an
affidavit, let me know and I shall gladly furnish you with
one, or you may write it or dictate it yourself, and I am
reasonably sure that I could sign it.
With very best wishes, and trusting that all of you get an
acquittal, I am,
Yours very truly, [
