This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the David E. Kahn home, 44 West 77th St., Apt. 14-W, New York City, this 24th day of March, 1935, in accordance with request made by the self - through Associate Membership of ex-husband Mr. [815] in the Ass'n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Present: Edgar Cayce; Hugh Lynn Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mrs. [867] and Mrs. [903].

TEXT

1. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [867], and those conditions physical and those conditions that produce the activities that disturb the body in its mental, in the physical self.
2. In the conditions as we find, where there are those pathological disturbances, these arise from psychological causes; yet we have definite pathological or physical or material reactions in the physical forces of the body.
3. These, as we find, may be relieved or altered or changed in a very definite way and manner; yet will require much of an activity in the mental attitude of the body as related to its activities in the material world.
4. In the physical forces of the body, then, [867] we are speaking of, present in this room, we find these conditions:
5. First, in the BLOOD SUPPLY of the body, this we find is near normal in its reaction, and we find that the nerve forces that impel or that sustain the activity of the building forces through the system are the causes, WITH the secretions that make for the disturbing factors in the material manifestations of the DEVELOPMENTS in portions of the body. Their first causes, however, arise from an astrological or astronomical effect upon what the body did about its activities in the material plane.
6. In considering, then, those activities where there are the glands' activities that produce the effects of a tendency towards an elephantiasis reaction in the system, as in the lower limbs, these we find will require - then - not only a pathological or a physical activity that will necessitate the correcting of those physical conditions that tend to make for the extremities to become so out of proportions to the developments in the physical portions of the body, but that the thoughts, the mind - materially and spiritually - must be altered as to its purposefulness and as to what are the promptings of the activities in the material plane.
7. Hence we will find not only with the addition or the altering in addition to the physical reactions, there is the necessity of altering the mental attitudes in breathing, in diet, in the outlook upon life in its activity as it finds expression in this particular material reaction for this body of [867] we are speaking of.
8. Then, in making the corrective forces and measures for the body, THESE are the glands that we find are overactive and thus physically produce an extraordinary amount of the reaction to the extremities:
9. The glands in the reproductive forces in the system, the glands that make for the associations of the activities as in associations with individual activity in the system; as in the prostate's activity to the distribution of the nerve forces through or to the lower portions of the body.
10. First we would begin, then, with the use of those that will make for an altering of the circulatory forces as related to distribution of nerve energies in the system; that is, those vibrations from the Radio-Active Appliance that will distribute energies for circulatory influences to the system. These must never be applied as rote. These must not be used just to get through with same, but in each application day by day see and feel constructive reactions taking place. For, remember, ever is this a growth in attitude, state of mind, the principles of mind as related to the desiring of, the expression of self in materiality. These attachments would be made to the ankle and to the opposite wrist; that is, the left ankle to the right wrist, always attaching to the ankle first. Then the next day to the right ankle and to the left wrist. The application would be for an hour each day.
11. We would also have a correction made in the lumbar (4th) and in the sacral and coccyx area, to remove the subluxations that exist there; making a pressure upon the glands of the pelvis that carry an increased circulation to the extremity in EXCESS to the other portions of the body.
12. In the matter of the diet, these become necessary elements also in creating for the system the necessary influences in the flow of the lymph as well as the blood circulation or deeper blood circulation; which would be - as an outline - in this manner:
13. Morning - citrus fruit juices, with cereals occasionally. Do not take cereals AND citrus fruit juices during the same meal or even during the same day, for these produce for the system an activity that is not BEST in the action upon the glands especially. Rice may be taken as a cereal, but ONLY the brown or cut rice. Whole wheat or or cracked wheat may be taken; this and the rice would preferably be cooked not so that it makes for a destruction of the vitamin content of either. For these of themselves in their whole state add to particularly the reproductive activities for a normal body; especially those combinations of cereals where rye is a portion of their content; or barley and rye. These are the preferable cereals, all cooked; not the raw or dry cereal. These may be altered for the morning meal.
14. Noons - or at the lunch meals - only raw green or fresh vegetables. These may include ANY or all of such as these: Cabbage (the green), lettuce, celery, tomatoes, spinach, onions, radish, leeks and the like; carrots, potatoes (these be raw, but chopped fine); any of these should be combined or separate. This should be ONE whole meal each day.
15. The correcting of those subluxations in the 4th lumbar and in the coccyx end (which will be found to need straightening, for in the second of the segments from the end of the spine we find there a congestion to a ring nature), this should be done. Make a pressure upon the glands as indicated there. These must be corrected.
16. There should be a massage of the limbs from the toes TOWARD the body; not FROM the body TOWARD the body, with a combination made in these proportions:
17. To 6 ounces of Witchhazel as the base, add:

    Compound Tincture of Benzoin................2 ounces,
Water of Alum (which would be 1 ounce of
lump alum in 2 ounces distilled water)...3 ounces,

    (Let the alum stir in the water until dissolved, and then add to the other)

    Oil of Cedar..............................1/2 ounce,
Oil of Sassafras............................1 dram.

18. These, to be sure, will tend to separate, but shake together; and at least twice each week the body may best give ITSELF this massage. For in the reaching, in the massage, the necessary exercises of the lumbar and sacral area are taken, see? We need this DOUBLING exercise, as it were.
19. Then, after this has been massaged, all the body will absorb, take the PEDALING exercises; this is from the shoulders, the limbs extended in the air and as of pedaling the bicycle, see? This should be taken for at least fifteen minutes.
20. As to the breathing exercise that is necessary, take this ONLY with thy prayer. BELIEVE IN something! Know the source of supply. Know that there is a purpose, an activity that can only be fulfilled by thine own endeavors, thine own desires; and these are that self IN body, in mind, may become the better channel, the greater channel, the PERFECT channel for the manifestation of the Creative Forces IN thine own experience as it finds expression in thy relationships to thy fellow man.
21. Such breathing would be taken with the body almost on all four's, or with the feet and hands on the floor; not knees and hands but the FEET and hands; and the deep PANTING breath with the extending of the tongue itself - very fast, very quick. The secretions that arise from the activity of the salivary glands, do not discharge but take them into the body to act upon the general effluvia or the urea in the secretions that arise from this in the system from the lacteal ducts, which will act directly upon the glands in the reproduction forces of the body. Such breathing should be taken at least three to five times each week, for ten to fifteen to twenty to twenty-five minutes. Do not overtire self at once.
22. During these breathing exercises, let the mind ever dwell upon this:
23. "THROUGH THE POWER OF THE CREATIVE FORCES THAT MANIFEST THEMSELVES IN MY LIFE, MAY THERE BE BROUGHT TO MY EXPERIENCE THAT WHICH THE DIVINE HAS PURPOSED IN MY EXPRESSION OR MANIFESTATION AT THIS TIME."
24. Then, fail not in these; and ye will find there will come - not in a moment, but gradually - a symmetrical, a beautiful body, mind; and the soul will find GLORY in manifesting the love of God to thy fellow man.

26. (Q) What proportion of the alum water?
    (A) This has been given; one ounce of lump alum to two ounces of the water, and this to be put in the whole solution.
27. (Q) How often should the manipulations be given?
    (A) About twice each week. These should be for periods of one to two weeks, then a rest period of leaving them off for one to two weeks, and then again.
    But DO NOT fool self into thinking that this can be partially done and some left out and expect to find results. Do not enter in unless ye indeed intend to become, to do, to be, that which may be made as a manifestation of thy body-physical, thy body-mental. Remember ever that thy body is a temple of the living God. PRESENT the whole body holy, acceptable unto Him whom thou dost set in thy mind as thy ideal.

1. 2/28/35 Ex-husband [815]'s ltr.: "Hers is a deep-seated condition that has been inherited from her mother, apparently, who has the same affliction in her ankles, thighs and hips. It is something that can't be uprooted, in all likelihood, for months. But there's no holding her enthusiasm for the rdg. anyway, especially after I'd explained mine in detail. Her birthday is 2/23/1908, Cincinnati. If something can be accomplished in her case, well, it will be nothing short of a rebirth, mentally and physically."

REPORTS

1. GD's note: I saw her legs - they looked like barrels from the knee to ankle - she pulled up her long skirt to show me. Otherwise she looked like a normal girl and very pretty.
2. 5/10/35 GD's ltr. to Mr. [815]:
   I hope [867] finally got her Radio-Active Appliance and has continued her entire treatment as suggested. It would be a pity not to take advantage of all the practical advice she received in that reading, though I know she was discouraged at having so much to do.
3. 11/11/35 Mr. [815]'s ltr. reporting on other rdgs:
   "I wish I could report so favorably on [867], but perhaps hers was more complicated a problem. As I said to Mrs. [903] on the phone today, 'I'm sorry I can say I told you so.' The fact is, though, that she arrived nowhere, partly due to the battery never having been furnished by Dr. Reilly, who had placed the order with Mr. Ladd last spring, only to have their relations severed and the orders left in the air."
4. 12/29/38 Mrs. [867] requested and was sent a copy of her Physical Reading.
5. 1/26/39 Mr. [815]'s ltr.:
   "Glad to know [867] got her copy of her reading, as she is headed for a Jupiter into Pisces and already is basking in Florida's sun, 'unconscious' of the reason she is there. But she is coming along and will dig in at long last and DO things. She can easily shake off those burdensome legs, shake them from inside OUT! She's reading Bragdon [Claude Bragdon]; that is, more important, she's RE-reading and enjoying it."
6. 8/26/39 "You may recall, howsoever vaguely, giving a reading for my ex-wife, [867]. Now at long last she is ready, able and willing to grasp and act on the information contained therein - coordinating the many and diverse ramifications coming through that reading. I write you now, therefore, to ask: (a) Can the Radio-Active Appliance which Reilly and Gray Salter used to assemble and sell be obtained from you or a company in Va. Beach... (b) Since more than 4 yrs. have passed since that rdg., would it not be better all around to have a new reading on the body as its development for better or worse has materialized in that time?..."
