To an OSTEOPATH in Plainfield, N.J.
Dear Sir:-
"For Mr. [
896], ..., Plainfield, N.J., we have suggested
osteopathic treatments and applications of the Low Wet Cell
Appliance as follows:
"We would begin by the gentle adjustments, osteopathically
given, especially in the 3rd and 4th dorsal center. We would
also relieve those axes in the 4th lumbar and in the coccyx
area, coordinating the upper cervical area WITH those
relaxations created in the other centers. This we would
have in the beginning, for the first two or three months,
three times each week.
"FOLLOWING the applications or the adjustments, as the body
rests after same, lying prone, we would use - for the
stimulation of the circulation - the active forces from the
Low Wet Cell Electrical Appliance. Such applications would
be made in this manner:
"Attach the copper anode or plate first to the 3rd and 4th
LUMBAR center; then the larger plate - that would pass
through the spirits of Camphor - to the umbilicii and the
lacteal duct area, or that covering a portion of the gall
duct and the lacteal duct area - that is, a span or four-
fingers from the umbilicii center but towards the right side.
This would be for thirty minutes.
"The next period when this is applied (the same electrical
vibration, after the osteopathic manipulation), attach the
first plate to the 2nd and 3rd DORSAL plexus area, and the
larger plate to that area ABOVE the bladder - or over that
area in the frontal portion of the body, you see, close to
the penis - that makes for the activity through the glands
of the kidneys and bladder area.
"Alternate at each treatment in this manner. It will make
for a slowing up and the relief of those tendencies for the
swelling in the lower limbs, and this heaviness that occurs
there at times."
Sincerely, [signed] Gladys Davis, Secretary

"P.S. Send the carbon copy of this letter, with Wet Cell
Appliance specifications, to The Reilly Service, 1908
Broadway, New York, N.Y., asking for purchase or rental
price on such an appliance - with full directions as to its
proper use." [GD's note: At that time the Appliances were
being made at H. J. Reilly's Sun Air Farm in N.J., first by
Gray Salter and later by Robert N. Ladd.]

Mr. Edgar Cayce

Dear Mr. Cayce:
I received your reading and instructions dated April 17th
and while I want to withhold, for the time being, more
elaborate comment in connection therewith, I do want to
say that I am very much impressed with the contents thereof
and hope to take the matter up with you more fully at a later
time.
At this writing I want to report that in all but one
particular I am following your instructions to the letter;
however, your instructions are addressed to an osteopath in
Plainfield and I took the liberty of consulting a
chiropractor instead. There are osteopaths in Plainfield
but none of them have the reputation and standing that the
chiropractor, Dr. J. E. [J. L. Chickering, D.C.] Chickering,
PH.C., 518 East Front Street, Plainfield, N.J., has, this
man has been in our good city for a number of years, has
benefitted many people and has an elegant reputation and
for this reason I consulted him.
Dr. Chickering does not have The Reilly Service; in fact, he
does not approve of it, having explained the reasons but with
which I, of course, am not familiar.
Now, what I want to learn from you is - Do you approve of my
continuing with the chiropractor or do you wish me to consult
an osteopath and insist upon The Reilly Service.
I thank you in advance for the courtesy of a reply and your
advice in the matter which I shall follow even though I am
impressed with Dr. Chickering.
Yours very truly, [

Mr. [
896],
Plainfield, N.J.
Dear Mr. [
896],
I have received yours of the 3rd, and am very glad to know
that you feel impressed with your reading. We feel that when
the reading suggests a doctor or practitioner of a certain
school it is taking into consideration what the individual
most needs, and also the school of treatment that would be
more in sympathy with following just the suggestions made
in the reading. If you have found that Dr. Chickering is
satisfactory, however, and if he agrees to follow the entire
treatment suggested, then I would advise that you continue
with him. However, we have found by experience that the
results do not come as promised when only PART of the
treatment suggested is followed. The Wet Appliance
suggested for you, which is made up by The Reilly Service,
is a new type of appliance which the reading have advocated
and described how to make. The Reilly Service simply
manufactures the appliance according to reading
specifications, where they have been used as suggested in
the readings most remarkable results have been obtained.
The Appliance is usually different in each case. Mr. [
777]
can tell you, no doubt, of a similar appliance that has been
used for his sister-in-law [Mrs. [
394]] in ..., Ala., which
has certainly brought about the results claimed for it. I
merely mention this, so you will realize the importance of
following the entire treatment - if you expect to follow any
of it at all; for all the treatments given in readings are
to work along together, one without the other does not bring
the desired results. And I'm sure it is the results that
you want. It might be that you could get the Appliance and
take the treatments yourself at home, immediately after the
chiropractic treatments as indicated; but it would be much
preferable to have your doctor's cooperation, so that the
treatments would coordinate one with the other.
We would be very glad to hear from you further, and to know
your decision.
Sincerely, [EC:GD]
