(Q) Afternoon of July 19, while on train N.Y. to Deal, N.J.
Saw five candles or spikes and a man counting each spike or
candle, one at a time, gesticulating over each as he counted.
They seemed to be candles. He said: "1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5."
I did not grasp it and he said to me. "Now pay attention -
watch closely," and he pointed to each candle as he counted:
"1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5."
(A) In this vision from the super-conscious, and the
weighing of the subconscious forces of the entity, there is
given this emblematical condition, which represents the five
lights, or five phases of the entity's development, in the
study of the Universal Forces as manifested in the material
world, and these are pointed out to the entity as the five
steps necessary for the development of each entity, each
individual, each force being in its coordination with the
other, yet separated in the five distinct lights. First the
knowledge. Then the interest. Then the acceptance of the
conditions as being true, for, as given, "Those that would
seek His Face must believe that He is." Then the various
consciousnesses - three in number. Five conditions then
in all, see?
(Q) How to be interpreted in light of that which it
signifies - and how applied?
(A) That as has been given, see? and may be used as the
various lights in the illustration of those conditions and
those theses and lessons as are being prepared by the entity
- the five lights, the five phases, the five conditions, the
five things as are seen in every form and way and manner.
(Q) Night of July 19 or Tuesday Morning, July 20. I seemed
to be going to play golf with Edwin Weisel and [
136]. They
started - took their first shot when I discovered I had left
my clubs in the locker and must go after them. It would be
too late upon returning to play with them, for they couldn't
hold people up waiting for me. I was sorry, for I didn't
like [
136] alone in this company.
(A) Again an emblematical condition as is presented to the
entity, as to the preparedness for the various phases of any
condition in which the entity would enter use or abuse the
conditions and lessons and various phases of the studies as
are being made. Then as the warning, lest that condition
arise in which some embarrassment, some entering in of
earthly conditions, that would prevent the full development
of those truths in the direct way and manner, see?
(Q) At the same place with Meyer Half. We went over a
familiar road together - he in advance. In the distance
there seemed hills or a golf course. Meyer whispered to me
that the big fellows were preparing something - getting ready
for something. I agreed with him. This time though the road
was unusually slippery - a new condition. It was too
slippery for me and I turned back. Meyer Half didn't do so
at first - then he turned around and did so. I said to him,
trying hard not to fall on the slippery road. "We've had
sunshine for several days in succession - this rain or
reaction is overdue." It was raining. Yet even as I said
it the sun tried to come out, which I either resented or
couldn't understand, because I thought it ought rain more
- even worse. It was very slippery and dangerous.
(A) This again a portion of that vision as seen, and in
this emblematical way and manner represents, not only those
conditions as relate to the physical conditions in which the
labor of the entity is expended, but also in the spiritual
way and manner, of the preparations for those conditions
wherein there may come that consternation in thought and
act. In the physical representing, then, the condition as
regarding the turn in the stocks, with the attempt from time
to [time?] for bridging of same, yet the constant slipping
as will come for three to four weeks, see? More of these
will be presented to the body farther along, when the various
changes, and of individual or specific stocks and conditions,
as the general slide begins.
We are through for the present.
