12/18/35 GD's letter to [
934]:
"For a long time I've intended writing; you've been in my
heart and mind so often, but I just haven't had the chance
to try and put my feelings on paper.
"That reading for you, I think, was the most beautiful one
I had ever heard of that kind. It makes me want to be very
close to you both and to help in any way I can, if only to
send out constructive and loving thoughts for one who is to
come. Just think, this time next year you will be playing
REAL Santa Claus! And I don't believe there is any more
real pleasure or joy in the world than that; just being a
Santa Claus to an innocent, sweet, trusting child.
"I hope you are feeling better physically, and that mentally
you are rejoicing over the wonderful experience and
opportunity before you - to present to the world a soul
that is to be a representative, an expression, of everything
that you hold nearest, dearest, highest and best in this
world or any other. Of course, a great responsibility rests
with [
391] - through his attitude, his growth and
development through this period, but a tremendous
responsibility rests upon you; for I truly believe that
during such a period a woman is attuned to all the finer,
more sensitive influences that the average person is not
aware of, and unless she within herself insists upon and
demands the very best and noblest expression or attunement
of which she is capable, she may get sidetracked on one of
the many halfway or quarterway stations and never reach or
touch the glory that is possible. But because you are YOU,
and because you DO hold the highest ideals, I feel that
something so beautiful and so precious is going to happen
that none of us can ever, ever, give expression fully of our
thanks to the Father for allowing such a miracle.
"A little less than a year ago you made a decision to stick
with [
391], that your life would be directed in that channel.
Now I feel that another opportunity is presented; as it were,
a sort of reward for the first decision, and that - if
accepted as such - it may indeed be a reward to you and many
others, that can never be measured.
"Do you still have that article on CHILD TRAINING that went
out with the Bulletin last summer? If not, I'll send you
another - because I believe you both would like to read and
study it during the next few months, as well as later. In
fact, it wouldn't hurt to learn it by heart (and I mean BY
HEART!)
"Please let us hear from you. We have been wondering how
everything is going, with the business and all. After your
reading was sent, we had quite an exciting time in Detroit.
One day about a week later, a man who was ignorant of what
it was all about had us arrested on the charge 'practicing
medicine without a license'. It was very silly, of course,
but caused quite a bit of inconvenience and annoyance - not
only to us but all our friends there. So we were delayed in
Detroit, and only got to the Beach last Friday. We have to
go back there for a trial - our lawyer is going to try and
have it postponed as late as possible, so we won't have to
drive in such bad weather. We certainly have some loyal
and staunch friends in Detroit and in New York, who flocked
to our rescue. It was on a Saturday afternoon and no Judge
in sight, so we were being put through all the rounds
preparatory to going to jail - until one of our friends got
hold of a Judge who gave an order to the Sheriff to release
us. That night, instead of being in jail (as it seemed for
a time we would be) we sat on the fifth row with six other
friends enjoying 'The Great Waltz,' which is the most
beautiful musical show I've ever seen. After that we had
a midnight supper; I guess our friends called it celebrating
our 'One Hundred Percent Club.' One of the friends started
it, by asking everybody, 'Are you one hundred percent for
Mr. Cayce?' Well, it was funny. It's not over yet. The
worst they can do is fine us, but we don't want to accept
a fine - on account of the Association. We want to present
the work of the Association on a scientific research basis
and prove that we are NOT practicing medicine at all, hence
we should not be charged with practicing without a license.
It may be a good way of bringing the Association before the
public, and its purpose - because most people just see
Mr. Cayce (some see him as a freak and some as a fake,
and some as a god almost) and not the purpose of the
Association, which is to carry on and promote scientific
psychic research, for the good of individuals now as well
as the masses to come.
"We had a nice drive back; the weather was good - we had
been so afraid it would be icy on the roads. Honey, we
passed right through ... I didn't know we were going to
- just found it out as we read the sign in a circle over
the road entering the town. My, it gave me such a thrill!
I felt almost as if I were passing through my own home town
- I wondered if your mother was there, and wished I could
stop and see her - in fact, I felt guilty not to. We had
at least a week or ten days before planned to go through
Dayton, and I had written your mother telling her we would
be at the Dayton-Biltmore Hotel two or three days, as we had
some appointments there. But on account of the trouble which
came up we were delayed, and consequently only spent one
night in Dayton. I didn't realize how far it was from ...
to Dayton, and had thought your mother might come in to see
us and witness a reading. How is she getting along? Was she
able to carry out the reading [998-1]? I'm sure you will
want her to be with you some, especially towards the last -
and when will that be? June, July, August? You'll be here
then, and I'll be so glad, because I'll really feel that I
have a part in it - and maybe I can help some too.
"Please write and tell me all about your plans, and how
things are going. Mr. Cayce and Hugh Lynn and Mrs. Cayce
are all anxious to hear from you. They thought the reading
so beautiful. Guilda Warshawsky Krause is so anxious to
have a baby (she just got married in September), and she
asked me if she might read that reading aloud to her husband
and parents, and us. I didn't think you would mind. We all
just sat in reverence. I wish you could have listened at
the reading being given. But you will have just as great
a thrill one of these days when you hear ITS Life Reading,
and find out what you've attracted - but you'll already know
that it's the sweetest, darlingest baby in the world!
"Heaps and heaps of love. Wishing you both (and all)
a Happy Christmas (your first together), and a Most
Prosperous New Year," I am always, Your devoted, Gladys
12/26/35 Mrs. [
934]'s letter to EC: "We really were glad
to get your Xmas letter with its encouraging message. We
feel like we have something so worth while to live for now.
Of course it's going to take a lot of self-sacrifice and
that's something neither of us are very well versed in,
but with an inspiration such as we have, it won't be hard."
