This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Va. Beach, Va., this 20th day of January, 1933, in accordance with request made by self & her mother, Active Members of the Ass'n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

TEXT

1. EC: Yes, we have the body, [951]; this we have had before.
2. As we find, the general conditions show much improvements. There are evidences of conditions that exercise themselves, by the return at times of distress in portions of the system - or the impulses towards the contraction, that have been at an at-variance with better physical conditions.
3. Keep rather consistently those applications that have been given as the corrective forces, for creating the balance of elements in the system for the life-giving forces themselves to create coordination, and the system WILL gradually adjust itself to the coordinating in the PROPER way and manner. Gradually there will be builded in varied portions of the system that necessary, in the various glands that function under various activities of the system, to adjust themselves to those NECESSARY forces for activities during their specific functioning period, to bring near normalcy to this body.
4. Then, take the Atomidine as outlined for the system when necessary.
5. Occasionally, too, there should be taken the baths that have been outlined.
6. Be mindful that the diet is kept in a manner that does not work crosswise with the elements that are being created in the system. As much of sea foods as convenient will work WITH the balancing of the forces in system, for they create a character of element in the minutia, and supply to the blood and nerve forces of the system, to the active forces in the principles of the blood supply and the functioning organs, an assimilated character of force that works with the activities of the body. Also green vegetables; as lettuce, celery, spinach, mustard greens, and the like. Also those foods that carry sufficient elements of gold and phosphorus; which are found partially from sea food and partially from the characterization of vegetable forces - as in carrots, the oyster plant, and especially in those of THAT nature. These make for better forces with the system than those of the meats, that become more active with the other principles in the system that require more gastric forces in their digestion or assimilation for conditions of the system. While the latter are necessary for the strength, for the vitality of the system, these may be kept in a CONSISTENT manner. NEVER any hog meat, very little of beef unless it is of the very lean (and the juices), but mutton and wild game - or the white meat of the fowl, or the like - these are very, very good for the body; provided, of course, they are not taken in excess for the system.
7. The general activities of the body in the open should be kept as much as possible.
8. Well, too, that there be periods of taking all the olive oil that may be assimilated by the system. Take in very small quantities two or three times each day for a week to ten days, but not ever taking more than that easily assimilated. Should there occur belching or regurgitation, keep on taking the oil but reduce the quantity taken. Then rest for a period of a week to ten days, and then begin again.
9. It will be found well, too, that there not be too much standing on feet; especially during and before the menstrual periods.
10. Also it would be beneficial to massage the bottoms of the feet with a combination put together in this manner:
11. To 4 ounces of rub alcohol, or denatured alcohol (not WOOD alcohol, but denatured or rub alcohol - or, PREFERABLY, the pure grain alcohol), we would add:

    Russian White Oil....................1 ounce,
Oil of Cedar.........................1 ounce,
Oil of Sassafras...................1/2 ounce,
Witchhazel...........................1 ounce.

    Shake these together (for, as you will find, some of these are oils of the nature that will sink, even though in the alcohol solution). Massage the bottoms of the feet, under the knees, and very particularly across the portions of the spinal system just below the kidneys to the end of the spine. These will be strengthening, and have a tendency to draw the blood supply to these portions of the system, so that the eliminations will become more regular, and the activities of the organs that are involved in the functionings during such periods will become coordinating and balancing with the rest of the system. Do not take drugs or concoctions for such conditions with this body, for these are as effects of impoverishment - by the activities through elements not supplied in the system, as given.
12. Follow these as we have given. From time to time we would give those changes that would be necessary for this body, [951].
13. Ready for questions.
14. (Q) What is cause and remedy for scaly spots on face and neck?
    (A) Impure circulation, as we have given. When we apply these conditions from time to time, gradually the change will come in the circulation to such a way as to relieve these conditions. Not so much application is necessary from the external, but rather from the internal. To relieve the itching, or when the scalp or the cuticle becomes scaly, there may be the application of the violet ray over portions of the system; this would be very well, but - as we will find - these will be better relieved by the internal causes being treated, so that the external and internal - capillary and lymph-circulation becomes more normal.
15. (Q) Is the kernel at base or below left ear causing these pains?
    (A) These come from the improper circulation, improper contribution of elements from various glands in the system - tending to accumulate or gather in portions of the system. Hence the applications that are turning these to the better coordination in the eliminating systems of the body.
16. (Q) Is there infection in the mastoid?
    (A) If we will follow the suggestions as given, we will remove these conditions. There is scarcely any organ in the system where there isn't some KIND of infection, or some CHARACTER of infection! for the NATURAL condition of the system is to involve all forces in the body! We will eliminate these, if we will follow the suggestions that we have given.

REPORTS

1. 1/26/33 Mother reported on her 623-2, then: "It is [951] I really want to write about. For the past 2 wks. she has not been so good. She is having stiffness in her joints and soreness. Last night she had another night sweat, the first in a long time. We have been watching the diet just as we have been. She has taken the Atomidine and Baths as usual. But the last 2 baths have left yellow stains on the tub and wash cloth. The baths must be sweating so much of the Atomidine out of her system and she is not to the place to get along without it. Shall we omit a fume or two?
   "Mrs. [278] called [951] and had a long chat, says she has more pep. So wonderful you can do this for people."
2. 1/31/33 EC's letter: "It may be that the poisons that are not eliminated through the system are being carried out through the pores of the skin. However, this can be judged best by taking the Atomidine for a period and then the sweats for a period."
3. 2/01/33 Mother's ltr.: "[951] is feeling better again - she has a little stiffness."
4. 7/26/33 Mother's ltr.: "Have thought so many times I would write, then [951] would get better and I postponed it. [951] has had quite a few pains recently. She is taking Atomidine, but will say we have not watched the diet so closely. I believe it comes more from perspiring, thereby getting the Atomidine out of her system. The worry I wanted to write about is this; she gets sharp pains around her heart seemingly when she takes Atomidine; we have tried keeping the doses down to five or six drops, this makes it possible for her to take it."
5. 8/09/33 EC's letter to [623]:
   "Yours of the 26th came and, as always, we were very glad to hear from you. I feel quite sure that there must be periods when [951] has some return of the old trouble, for you realize that the system has builded within itself those conditions to combat or to carry on WITH the existent conditions that were there, when the pain is distressing. Consequently, until we can get the whole organism renewed - or until there is a revivifying of the glands to produce the normal activities, there will be occasions of return. And, of course, as you suggest, one of the things that will have to be watched the closest is the diet.
   "The Atomidine should work well with the glands of the body, in increasing eliminations. She may find it even necessary at times to use the bath or, if not, the local application of a saturated solution of the Epsom Salts to portions of the system where the pain becomes distressing. Atomidine is not a heart depressant, and it should not cause any depression when she takes it. I do believe, though, from our own experience and from the reading, that if taken in small quantities it is much more effective than when taken in the quantities prescribed by the manufacturer."
6. 5/01/34 EC wrote asking how she was, since he hadn't heard in some time.
7. 6/11/34 Mother's reply: "We are so happy to answer your recent note enquiring about [951]'s health. She is feeling better all the time it seems, for she has more strength and feeling like a healthy person should. I would say for the past two months she has had very little pain and has felt better generally. We can never thank you enough and we tell lots of people about you. If there is ever anything or any way we can help we would be very glad to do so."
8. 6/19/34 HLC asked for a report which could be used in ARE Bulletin.
9. 7/24/34 Mother wrote for her own 623-3, saying that [951] was going to give us a report on her case: "[951] is working as a playground instructress out in this hot sun eighteen hours a week. She has stood it very well and is looking fine."
10. 8/14/34 [951]'s letter to EC:
    "I am writing in answer to your request for a testimonial.
    "In July, of 1932, my right knee became affected with what we thought to be a very sore bruise or perhaps a strained ligament. "I had been having night sweats for some nights previous to this. I went to a doctor and he prescribed hot salt packs for the afflicted joint. This didn't help at all; in fact, I grew steadily worse.
    "During the month of August, I took diathermy treatments, as we heard that it ofttimes helped in cases similar to mine, but after quite a few treatments I had eight afflicted joints instead of the six I had when I started.
    "The pain was intense, so much so that at times I could hardly stand it. I couldn't sleep, could hardly walk, and couldn't turn or twist my knees or ankles at all.
    "In September, I went to the best specialists that we could find here at home, and after being X-ray'd completely and thoroughly examined, they said it was 'arthritis.' This disease comes from some source of infection, but in my case they have never found that source. "The only thing that the doctors thought might help at all was for me to go to Arizona to live. The medicine I had been taking hadn't helped at all, and strychnine had been prescribed for my heart.
    "We were positively at the end of our rope, so my father decided to list our house for sale and send me to Arizona. In so doing we met the man who so graciously told us of Mr. Cayce.
    "We wrote to him that same day and a few days later he gave me a physical reading.
    "He told me where my trouble lay, what to do and take and completely changed my diet.
    "Mother and I started in to follow everything to the letter. On the morning of the third day I awoke and could actually bend one knee!
    "Our happiness knew no bounds, we were practically delirious with happiness.
    "Since then I have steadily improved and am now practically well. I seldom have even a touch of arthritis, but when I do, a dose of the medicine prescribed sets me on my feet again.
    "We will never be able to express our thanks to Mr. Cayce for curing me and saving me from so horrible a death, as the reading stated that I would gradually die of sleeping or stony paralysis.
    "My sincere regards to you and yours, Mr. Cayce, and I am proud to sign my name to this testimonial of you and your marvelous work." Miss [951]
11. 11/34 A.R.E. Bulletin carried a report on 951-1 and 951-2. The same was used in Jan. 1937, entitled A Case Study of Arthritis, and in 1942 it was printed in the back of the book THERE IS A RIVER.
12. 5/31/35 Mrs. [932] obtained Physical rdg. via Miss [951]'s recommendation.
13. 7/11/35 She referred Mrs. [950] for Physical rdg., saying: "I am glad to say I am feeling much better and seem to gain in general health more each day."
14. 8/21/35 Mother's letter: "[951] has been working in a doctor's office for five months, and is feeling fine. She takes an occasional dose of Atomidine."
15. 12/05/35 EC, GC, GD and HLC stopped overnight in Miss [951]'s hometown on their way back to Va. Beach from Detroit. Miss [951] and her parents, Mrs. [623] and Mr. [2461], visited with them at the Hotel for about two hours.
16. 1/24/36 Mother referred Mrs. [1121] for Physical rdg., saying: "[951] is doing very well, except a rib lesion which we believe is causing her heart pains. She is not having any arthritis."
17. 7/03/36 Miss [951] and mother referred Mrs. [1197] for Physical Reading.
18. 9/10/36 "Just a word to thank you for your prompt attention to Mother's wire request for a reading for her uncle, Mr. [3824]. Hope this finds you and yours well. I have had a few mild recurrences of arthritis lately but Atomidine quickly settles it."
19. 7/19/37 Mother's ltr: "[951] is well and working in the office where her father works, the ... Co. She likes it and is getting along nicely."
20. 11/16/38 Miss [951] obtained 951-3 regarding a kidney condition.
21. 6/14/49 Report from Pemberville Health Clinic:
    Pemberville Health Clinic Dr. F. Moeser, Founder Pemberville, Ohio
    Report to A.R.E. on Formula given in reading number 951-2 [951-2, Par. 10, 11]:
    To four ounces of denatured alcohol or pure grain alcohol add:
    Russian White Oil.............1 ounce, Oil of Cedar..................1 ounce, Oil of Sassafras............1/2 ounce, Witchhazel....................1 ounce.
    This has proved to be a good palliative measure in the treatment of arthralgias of a toxic or metabolic origin.

22. 3/19/73 A.R.E. Member, Ouida Smith, wrote [in re 951-2, Par. 8]:
    "I was not taking any medication for arthritis, even though I have had this disease for over 10 years. "I recently started drinking Olive oil. I took approximately 6 tablespoons a day (during the day) for 2 weeks then I took 1 tablespoon a day for 2 weeks. The pain in every joint was gone. I stopped this procedure, feeling maybe the arthritis may have been arrested as some cases do.
    "After 3 weeks the pain started to return. I knew it must be the Olive oil so I started taking 3 tablespoons a day for 1 week then discontinued dosage. After 2 weeks the pain only slight but returning. I took only 3 tablespoons just one day a week. All I take now is 3 tablespoons for 1 day and it lasts 1 week and no pain for this period.
    "I sincerely hope this will aid in finding help for people who suffer from this disease."
