4/18/39 Mr. [
261]'s letter: "I have just returned from a
trip to ... and have seen my aunt, Miss [
975], I found that
she had failed a good deal since I saw her three weeks ago
and the doctor thinks it is a question of only a few days
before she will pass on. I found him not sympathetic to the
battery treatment suggested so have been unable to try it.
While it might have afforded some temporary relief, I don't
believe that it would have affected the final result since
the ailment is so far advanced. The rdg. itself would not
seem to offer very much hope.
"Incidentally I did use the elm bark dissolved in water and
that seemed to help the dryness in my aunt's mouth to a
considerable extent, so that some good was accomplished at
any rate.
"With kindest regards to you all."
GD's note: Mr. [
261] told us later that his aunt died a
few months later.
