12/18/35 [
988]'s mother's letter to HLC: "...Have been
trying to write you since Sunday night when [...] [husband]
and I recharged the battery, to thank you for the time you
recharged it. I didn't realize what a job it really was.
"Presume you are all quite settled at home and getting over
your ordeal in Detroit. To say that we miss you all a lot is
to say the least and I can never thank you enough for your
many little kindnesses.
"We are struggling along with [
988] and all his treatments
and as you know, it is no small job.
"The last few days he seems to be quite low in spirit which
seems to have affected his appetite also, and last night I
discovered that he has an idea in his mind that he can go
home; of course I had to deliver a lecture on that and tried
to assure him that that would come soon but certainly not
just now.
"If he has not had his Check reading as yet, would like to
know condition of tumor as Mrs. Kimball seems to have trouble
injecting tube at first, also that mass or swelling on
abdomen still the same.
"The swelling of leg is going down. He has a lot of pain in
left leg and foot and we don't seem to know what to do for
it. All we know is codeine and the effects of that is pretty
bad.
"The new anodes have not come as yet. [
988] would like to
know if Elliot treatment should be continued also if there
are any changes in condition and treatments.
"How long should mullein be continued? Could we ask if there
is any idea when he can be taken home? Please give Check
reading as soon as possible as we are anxiously waiting.
"Do hope this finds you all well and happy and my love to you
all... Please send hair fluid as you promised, if not too
much trouble..."
12/20/35 Mrs. [
