1/23/36 EC's ltr. to [
1035]:
Dear [
1035];-
It was very lovely of you to write me as you did on Jan 5th,
and want to assure you I appreciate every word of it, and
feel very much complemented that you wanted even to ask me
the questions as you did. A very lovely letter from a very
lovely person and deserves a very direct answer to many of
your questions and I only trust I may in some small way be of
a help to you at this time. First am sorry to hear you had a
burn, hope there is no bad after effect either from the burn
or from your illness, you make me a bit ashamed tho not to
want me to at least try and help, but hope you are all OK and
feeling just fine.
Now about your reading that it has made you dissatisfied with
your self or about the way you have been trying to convince
your self, well that is a great big help. for there are to
me, [
1035], a few very trite sayings to some that is the crux
of the whole matter, They that seek shall find" is among
them and am sure you will and have found it true. Even tho
the gold we seek be in her hair" guess you have read the
little book of mine where I tried very humbly to tell of some
of the experiences that had brought about my beliefs, for
cant say I have any Philosophy, or any pet ones at least, for
to me God is ONE and any religion or Philosophy I may have
must be just that in any language any sect and clime and just
as understanderable to a child as to any grown up. Yet, I
do believe every one should have a reason, not just an excuse
for their beliefs.
For my self I had a very unusual experience I grew up, and
believe can appreciate your experience until you were 13,
well I was 19 when I came to the same cross road as you no
doubt find your self just now, and looked every where for the
answer, but you can only find it within. For from my first
promise God is ONE then I, body, mind, soul must be included
in that one, and only that that is the Image of him may
reflect GOD, and I can only see it in the flesh in myself,
isnt that good reasoning. Then life or that we call life is
GOD, then we cant prove God we may only experience HIM.
Experience Him by and through the manner we treat our fellow
man, for they too have in them that which may reflect him and
we catch that reflection, and there by become aware of his
presence, his love, his mercy, why, for to be loved we must
be lovely, to have mercy shown us we must be merciful, and as
He is all these in that we see and know HIM. But when we
attempt to give goodness a name and with all its
diversification we see about us. We confuse ourselves and
declare there is no God. Then what is the Law of one?. The
whole gospel the whole being is sumed up in this; Love the
Lord thy God with all thy heart thy soul thy body, and thy
neighbor as thy self. All the fandangles we may add in any
way is just trying to explain that. Why should we love God,
The first law is self presivation and if for none other that
is a wonderful reason, for when we apply the law as above it
becomes proof to us in That He has said, and application of
it proves it "Thy Spirit beareth witness with my spirit
whether ye be the children of God or not" Now I dont want to
tire you with all this when no doubt you have gone over all
these and many more many many times, but that you are
thinking and do think, shows and is proof of the Love of God,
for as has been said, and we may prove that also by applying
same, "IN Him we live and move and have our being" and it is
very hard to put a real answer in cold type for each line may
need its own interpretation, But look within and you will
surely find him there, try out the fruits of the spirit on
others and you will see and know him as your very own
companion, and these fruits are as you know. Be patient, be
kind, be just, long suffering, gentle, forgiving, merciful,
loving, for against such there is no law, but do show forth
the love of God, and the still small voice speaks within.
Write me again and again, do want to help if possible and
none of your problems are ever ridiculous, but every one
worth while and I thank you for writing me, and May His
blessings keep you always.
All here send love to you and your Father, are expecting
"Ax-tell" [
487] home for few days after examinations, write
me again. Sincerely yours, Edgar Cayce
