3/11/76 Mrs. [

a brain tumor which is inoperable."
4/28/76 See her letter to HLC under
1048-4, Par. R5.
8/16/76 Mrs. [
1048]'s husband wrote HLC:
"Thank you in behalf of [
1048] for your nice letter of May
27th to her. At the time of your writing she was dying of
cancer and passed away on June 8th in the ... Hospital.
"She often spoke of the early connections of you and your
family, and of your good works.
"Thank you also for your prayers for her. She had the
greatest spirit right up to the end and if she knew she was
going to die, she never let on to anybody.
"Her last thoughts of course were for me to be sure to take
care of 'my boy'." [GD's note: On
3/14/49 HLC had told me
that Mrs. [
1048] and her husband had a son between seven and
eight years old who had apparently been abnormal from birth.]
