5/16/36 [
959]'s ltr. to EC:
Dear Friends:-
The reading reached us alright, for which we thank you. It
seems the condition was much more serious than I had thought,
though I could not understand why anything that he took
seemed to reach the trouble. Well, I have gotten all the
things called for and ordered the rest, so we will soon be
following to the letter, think we will have another check up
in about 6 weeks.
We now think we will probably move from this place, and I am
very forcibly reminded that "a rolling stone gathers no
moss". But Mr. [
1170] has an offer that we are anxious to
accept, if, if - if - There's always so many ifs to a
proposition. However we will know in the next week or so and
we are hoping for the better of the change. I think it will
be better for Mr. [
1170]'s health, for he had to leave the
tidewater region on account of the malarial condition that
he was in, so this low altitude, and so near the river may
be a part of his trouble now.
I had to order the bath, as I did not have time to go to
Charleston hope it will be here in a few days. Thanks for
sending the circulars, I would had no idea where to order the
bath, other than there.
After a heavy frost on the mountain yesterday it is beginning
to warm up now, and I do hope every one will feel better, we
have had such a severe epidemic of colds, flu and pneumonia.
Our one Dr., has been going night and day.
Will let you know how Mr. [
1170] improves, as I am sure he
will. You are making big plans for the congress I guess,
wish I could attend, but its out of the question this year.
Best wishes to all,
Sincerely, [

6/13/36 Wife's letter: "Mr. [
1170] has been feeling so much
better for the past few weeks. I have not been able to give
him the baths yet. I have not been able to locate an alcohol
burner and we are so isolated at present that we do not have
electric power here, but thanks be, we have hopes of moving.
...He has taken 3 bottles of the chill tonic and though we
would leave off all now until we can have the baths, then we
will begin at he beginning and go over the whole program
together, which seems about the only thing to do now..."
8/23/36 Wife's letter: "Do you see that new address?...so
many things have taken place... [
1170], has had the regular
treatments, he is much better. As you know we could not give
the sweat baths before, so about the time we were moving he
began to have a great deal of distress in his right groin,
upon examination, doctor said he had hernia and to be fitted
with a truss at once, so this we did, for it you remember the
reading gave the information that unless the precautions were
taken, hernia would result or something to that effect. So I
thought as we has been unable to take all treatments that of
course that is what had taken place, but just as soon as we
could we went over a course of entire treatments, and he has
hung the truss up, cough and nasal irritation has ceased and
he is seemingly in the pink of condition. Last night he took
one of the pleasant sweats with the temperature already at
about 100 but we are persisting and everything has seemingly
come alright. We will continue the treatments to some extent
for a while, as he feels stronger and sleeps well after each
one..."
5/09/39 Wife's letter: "...Mr. [
1170] is feeling very well,
but tires easily and I think he had better have a checking on
his condition, so when can you give him a 'going over'..."
5/16/39 She submitted questions.
5/20/39 See
1170-3.
