This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 1st day of August, 1936, in accordance with request made by the aunt - Mrs. [268], Associate Member of the Ass'n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

TEXT

1. EC: Yes, we have the records here of the entity now called [1235].
2. In giving the interpretation of that record as we find the entity should know and should reason from, if it would make it practical in the experience:
3. The information is of the self, it is self meeting self continuously. For Life is a continuous experience. And the mind, the soul, the will, are those influences that act through the material manifestation for the improvement, the development, or for the retardment to the whole of the experience.
4. For each soul enters each experience for a development, that it may be prepared to dwell with that it seeks as its goal.
5. Hence the necessity of each entity, each soul, setting its ideal in each experience.
6. Hence we find in the developments through those activities of an entity in a material sojourn or through an astrological experience are but the evolution, or making practical. For it is not what an individual or an entity may proclaim that counts, but what each soul, each entity, each individual, does about that it has set as its ideal in relationships to its activities to and through the individuals about same.
7. Hence we find those necessities for a development in the experiences of this entity; for there are the tendencies not only to be stubborn and hardheaded but to be inquisitive without consideration of what the end thereof may be.
8. Not that there should be an old man head upon a young man's shoulders, but that the training, that the environ, the surroundings for this entity should be made such that these tendencies, these inclinations are not exactly curbed but directed aright; else we may find those experiences when an unruly temper, too great a seeking for a thrill may become a detrimental influence in the experience.
9. For where there is a will of its own - which makes for what may be termed in material affairs as a strong will, strong mind, or one headstrong - there are abilities. The greater the abilities, the greater the responsibilities to each soul; and especially to those who may have charge, may have care, may have the opportunity of directing such a soul in its GAINING that as an ideal that is worthy of the abilities of such an entity.
10. In those experiences from the astrological sojourns we will find the activities of the entity from the Jupiterian influence becoming such as to deal with men, the affairs of men, the affairs of individuals, the affairs of groups, the affairs of nations.
11. For as we find a political career should be that for the greater training, for the greater development, for the greater abilities, for the greater possibilities for the entity in this experience.
12. For as the activities have guided, do guide the experiences of others, and as the experiences have been in such an environ, those inclinations will be in such ways and manners as HELPFUL - if the purposes, the ideals of the entity are held in those directions as to make for the CORRECTING of self first, then the aiding in correcting the moral, the economic, the social order for others.
13. From the experiences in Mars we find that inclination which has been indicated for the activities that make for the headstrongness - and activities in that direction.
14. The influences from Venus make for one sympathetic, loving, if there is the tenderness and the temperament for those activities.
15. Hence we will find that the entity as it develops in this experience may be persuaded by reason but rarely driven by might, for it rebels against that. Not so much because of the routine or because it is best, but the act of the constraining influence becomes that force that makes for the experiences that bring about these activities innately, manifestedly in this entity.
16. As to the activities in the earth, as will be found, the experiences were among those in authority, among those in power. Yet as for the world and as for self these have been such that they are not well-spoken of in many circles. Yet the power, the might, the eloquence, the activities are such that if the entity is guided aright these may become again not only to that to which the entity ALMOST attained but may in the experiences bring about that authority within self that the entity may guide those influences and affairs of state, of nation, of those of great influence and power.
17. Before this, then, we find the entity was THAT one known as Aaron Burr; of which so much is known that little may be added to that - but that those things that brought about those experiences in the affairs of the entity during that sojourn may NOT be repeated. For these will come as experiences, the urges for repeating of those that questioned the entity, even as then.
18. Hence those that guide same, those that direct same, beware that there are those temperings of those forces that make for might; stressing rather those that make for peace, for harmony in the activities of the entity.
19. Before that, then, we find the entity was in the Roman experience when there were those activities especially of the Caesar that made for the expanding of the lands, even into the northern portions of the African lands, the Holy Land, the Grecian, the Turkish lands as now known - all of these.
20. The entity then was as an aide, as a spokesman, and in the name then Gustavus; making for much that brought about those forces that proclaimed the speakers, the leaders as for power, as for might. Yet the entity met oppositions in those influences, for the entity THEN sought peace; GAINED throughout that experience. And as may be indicated from that as given of its activities later in the earth, these were just the opposite almost - for though the entity gained in might through the soul forces, that for might by the MATERIAL experience became the desire.
21. In the expressions in the present, those abilities then in law or in state craft, or in that pertaining to such should be the training, should be the activities that would bring into the experience of the entity those influences and activities that may become so worth while not only to self but to others.
22. Let the entity have this ever, EVER before self: He that would be the greatest must SERVE all! Not he that would have the greater number of servants but he that would SERVE will be the greater.
23. Before that we find the entity was in the Persian land, during those experiences when there were the overrunnings of that land by the nomads, the peoples of a portion of what is now the Egyptian and the Arabian lands.
24. The entity then was among those who were the keepers, or the second in command of the keepers of the Exchequer for one of the kings of that land; of the one of whom it was said that all he touched turned to gold.
25. Then the entity RULED by might and by main through the very activities that made for its abilities to find favor or power that induced its activities in the experiences of others.
26. In the main the entity gained, in portions the entity lost; for self-indulgence, self-aggrandizement and the ability to put those through the hands of others away, came eventually to the entity's OWN hands - as has been indicated. And these must be held, these must be trained in such manners that the entity refrains from wrong application and knows from whence life and power and might comes. Only by that CLOSE association with the spiritual forces in the experience of each individual.
27. As to the abilities of the entity then in the present, that of state's craft, the activities reached through political forces and powers.
28. Hence the training, the development, the teachings should be in those directions that may give the entity the opportunity for expressions in THAT direction.
29. In the attaining to same, first know "Seek the Lord while He may be found." For seeking Him in thy youth, thou KNOWEST the beauties of service, thou knowest the basis of all through state's craft, thou knowest the service each individual should render to thy fellow man, and thus may the basis of thy activity become as that which may be of one worthy of being in position of power, of might.
30. Ready for questions.
31. (Q) Shall I ever become highly successful?
    (A) This depends upon the application of self. As has been indicated, there is a right and there is a wrong way of applying abilities. The abilities are present in the entity, in the faculties of the entity INNATELY and manifestedly. If these are used for good, success may be. Or there may be material success without a satisfying of that innate, and that longing which is the heritage of each and every soul. But a REAL success may be attained in position, in fame, in fortune, if the entity is GUIDED, if the entity is kept in the proper directions.
32. (Q) Please give in detail just what relation I have had with my present Aunt [268].
    (A) That which makes for the closer relationship was in the Roman experience, where the aunt then depended upon the word and activities of the entity in that experience.
    Hence it may be found in the present that those influences, those activities may become reversed in this experience - and the entity depend upon the word and the help of the aunt in the present.
    But unless these abilities are guided, unless these are kept, they may turn to turmoils - even as has been indicated HAS been the experience of the entity.
33. (Q) What was the relation between the two in that period?
    (A) One depended upon the other. Friends.
34. (Q) Please give in detail just what we should mean to each other in the present?
    (A) As has been indicated. These become reversed. One depends upon the other for direction. One depends upon the other now for the guidance and especially for the directing in the SPIRITUAL portion of its life.
35. (Q) Will our lives be closely associated or separated?
    (A) This depends to be sure upon the activities - all of these. NO LIFE, no individual is set! It is not a line; it deviates. For the WILL of each may change the relationships.
36. (Q) Will I be much benefitted in this experience, and how?
    (A) Depends upon the application again. EVERYTHING in the experience depends upon the application. How wilt thou use thy opportunities? if for weal or for woe? These are NOT set! They do not happen irrespective or regardless! Life is earnest, life is work, life is DOING; not having it poured out, not having it given - but work!
37. (Q) Should I return with Francis H. Greene to Florida to school, or where should I go?
    (A) This is very well in the experience, and in ALL the training let first History, next Geography, next State's Craft be included in its varied fields of study. Thus we will find that the better expressions may come. The eventual should be to Princeton, Harvard or Yale in those fields of law, in those fields of state's craft, see?
38. (Q) Would the Episcopal High School, Alexandria, Va., be the proper school for me in the future?
    (A) This be very good, though we would give that the George Washington School would be preferable.
39. (Q) Has the Anthony Winborne who is present in this room, been associated with me in the past?
    (A) In the experience just previous to the present, when there were the seconds - he stood as one. [William P. Van Ness second for Aaron Burr. Nathaniel Pendleton second for Alexander Hamilton.]
40. (Q) Did accident to head leave permanent injury? If so, how?
    (A) We have only the mental experiences here.
41. (Q) Was he injured mentally?
    (A) No.
42. (Q) Was I related to Aunt [268] in any other period?
    (A) Those relationships in the period indicated make for the experiences of association in the present.
    MOST of all, be mindful of the warnings for the development of this entity in its abilities.
