(Q) Should I sacrifice personal feelings at the expense of
paternal indebtedness by returning to my home where for hours
of unhappiness I was never recompensed by happiness itself?
(A) These conditions should be worked out in self. This
should be the attitude of self: Make self SELFLESS. He that
will humble himself will be exalted. Do not run away from
the shadows of self. When self takes counsel, or when self
goes aside and takes stock of the conditions and experiences
that have been in the life of self, have not most of them
been caused by that fear, or that condemnation that has been
held in the inner man respecting the manner in which self has
been treated at home? Has not that abroad been the same?
With what measure ye mete, with what condemnation ye make, so
shall it be MEASURED TO YOU AGAIN! Ye cannot HIDE thine self
in numbers, in running away to distant places or anywhere!
SELF is ever in the presence of the godly conditions of thy
making. If thine ideal is set in the material things, only
material things can be the reaping or the harvest. If thine
ideal is set in higher things, and thine acts day by day are
in keeping with those, then the harvest may be expected to be
in that proportion commensurate with that given. Measure
self not by self, for who does such is unwise. Condemn self
not because self has condemned another. Condemn another not
because self has condemned self; for this is judging self by
self. Know in WHOM there is hope, for it comes only from the
answering of a pure conscience from within. Ask not who will
ascend to bring peace and harmony from on high, or where
shall I go to seek peace and harmony abroad. KNOW IT MUST BE
CREATED WITHIN THINE OWN HEART, AND SOUL! Thine own self
must answer to thy Maker with an all-good conscience. When
self can look the world and all straight in the face, and
move on towards the better things, forgetting that which is
behind, moving on to the higher forces that will be the
creating of the faith, confidence, and of the purposes that
will be set before thee from day to day, then the inner man
will find peace, harmony, happiness, joy in service; for he
that is the greatest among you is the servant of all!
(Q) To whom may I turn for necessary inspiration and push to
help me gain a solid foothold on the economic or business
ladder that would lead to my financial success?
(A) IT MUST BE FROM WITHIN!
We are through for the present.

BACKGROUND
He talked with EC in N.Y.C. and submitted questions.
REPORTS
[Questions submitted:] If the physical diagnosis of my body
has been correct, is it inherent or what were the real
causes? Would I be facing the possibility of having
unhealthy offspring were I to marry? Should I marry? Was I
correct in sacrificing a very fine and staunch love with fear
in my heart, rather than getting married? Please give any
counsel that will help me to choose the right path for my
best development while in this plane.
11/17/32 EC's ltr. to [
257]: "I am enclosing a copy of the
information gotten for [
1264]. Today I have written to him,
sending the reading. I suggested that he come to you with
this; no doubt he would do it anyway. You have very little
time to give matter of this kind, I know yet it is in
patience that we have with another, in assisting others to
find themselves, that we will find ourselves... Apparently,
it will be very simple for him to get straightened out, but
it is a lot less simple in words than it will be in activity;
of this I am sure. No doubt, he has very minor conditions
physically, but much mental worry from his financial position
and for what others have made him believe about himself,
based more upon self-condemnation for having taken some stand
as to other individuals which he doubts as to being correct.
All these he must get out of the way before he will be able
to see the light of day at all. I am sure he has the makings
of a real man, and I certainly hope you can get him set on
the right path..."
11/21/32 Mr. [
257]'s letter: "I agree with you on [
1264].
He told me it was true; he was taking a bromide, so I will
devote some time to him and see if we cannot straighten him
out."
1/10/33 Mr. [
257]'s mother Mrs. [
325]'s letter: "[
1264] I
did not see. He does not want to discuss his trouble."
9/15/36 [
1264]'s letter to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce,
Virginia Beach, Va.
My dear Mr. Cayce:
Sometime ago you were good enough to give me a Physical
Reading which was very helpful to me and now that I need some
guidance in the question of my Life Work I wonder if you
would be good enough to help me out again by giving me a
reading and answering the questions attached.
At the moment I am not in a position to give you your full
fee, but thought possibly you could see your way clear to
giving this reading for the amount attached and at such time
as I locate, will send you some additional money.
In the meantime, I am stopping with [
2588] at the above
address but will only be there for a day or so. However mail
will be forwarded to me. Therefore, I would appreciate it
very much if you would write me there by return advising
exactly when you could give this reading so that I can guide
myself accordingly. On receipt of the date and hour of the
reading, I will immediately wire you where I will be so that
there will be no mixup.
I want you to know that I will appreciate any courtesy which
you extend to me and also your kind co-operation.
I think you will remember that I met you personally several
years ago and hope some time in the near future to have the
same privilege.
With kind regards,
Cordially, [
