4/02/51 Reply to Questionnaire:
We are positive that a law of universal validity lies behind
the Life Readings and one of our projects is to be able to
state that law in terms so simple and so complete that no one
- absolutely no one - can gainsay its truth. To this end we
solicit and need your help. Will you please take the time to
fill out and return the questionnaire below? The happiness
of many lives may be in the balance between your doing this
and your not doing this. [[

Christ didn't accomplish the above.]
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
Answer all questions as completely as possible. Merely "Yes"
or "No" is insufficient if you know inside yourself that you
have more thoughts you want to express. Remember that
thoughts are deeds and that the final judgements are on the
thoughts, not the deeds or actions. Every paper in our files
is inviolably confidential as to source or individual
identification with present appearance. Please do not
hesitate or be in any respect afraid to express yourself. We
welcome and cherish even the most meager expression because
we know the value of that which stimulates it. (Use reverse
side, and additional sheet, if required.)
1. Do you still have a copy of your Life Reading? Yes.
2. How many times have you read your Life Reading? (If many
times, give approximate number.) Too numerous to remember.
3. Did you read it to or with someone else and, if so, what
was the relation of the person to you? Friends and
relatives.
4. Have you given a copy of your reading to anyone and, if
so, what was the relationship to you of that person? Loaned
it to a friend.
5. How recently have you read your Life Reading? Within
three months.
6. In what respects do you feel that your Life Reading was
(1) true, (2) false, (3) correct, (4) imaginary, (5) hocus
pocus, (6) inaccurate, (7) incomplete, (8) trivial? (true
and correct were checked)
7. Do you believe in a reincarnation of the soul and, if so,
why? It make God just & the law of sewing [sowing?] &
reaping.
8. What is your idea or concept of Karma? Is it (a) a state
to which a people aspire, (b) a state to which an individual
aspires, (c) an environmental influence, (d) a hereditary
influence, (e) something you yourself have done or thought
or left undone and unthought in a previous incarnation?
(c, d, and e were checked)
9. Have you in any respect consciously changed your (1)
vocation, (2) thoughts, (3) actions or reactions toward
others as a result of your Life Reading? (2 and 3 were
checked)
10. Assuming your life to be no casual accident or
experiment, do you have any new or different concept as to
the purpose of your life as a result of your Life Reading?
Yes.
11. Have you ever systematically or otherwise set apart any
part of your day, week, month or any other period of your
time for introspection on an examination and analysis of your
inner self (and we do not mean writing in a diary) as
suggested in your Life Reading? If not, why not and, if so,
are there any results measurable to you? Yes - helps me
discipline my life & thoughts.
12. Do you regard your vocation, whether it be as laborer,
supervisor, manager, official, engineer, lawyer, doctor,
housewife, mother, or what not, as the dominant force in your
life or do you look upon your vocation as an agency through
which you can the better fulfil your purpose in this life?
(words "better fulfill your purpose in this life"
underscored.)
How, in your opinion, can our Association best carry on the
work of Edgar Cayce and the good for which he stood? Through
his works - books etc. I often loan - There is a River.
[handwritten pages follow]
I have tried to help others as Mr. Cayce suggested opened new
vistas to others when ever possible. The reading cleared up
many things for me as to the continuity of life - a pattern -
showed how UNIMPORTANT one's position & how important one's
life in what ever phase, newsboy or King, for growth gave me
courage to keep my chin up without being full of self pity &
why unselfishness is so vital to one's fulfillment of the
earth cycle. Each re-reading of my personal reading brings
fresh inspiration. I bless Edgar Cayce & hope we meet again
and again. I am now going thru a new and difficult phase
have a shop for women & that's a place to meet frustration!
if ever I saw one. The name "Myrtle" was associated with
queen Esther & I take it as a sign along the way, as the shop
has carried that name for many years before I bought it
recently. Best wishes. [

10/26/62 GD's note: Today Miss [
1298] came to see us with
young Mrs. [
5043] whom she is visiting (and for whom she
obtained a Life Reading when [
5043] was six years old!). She
is still a person of very unusual and distinctive mien, and a
stunning dresser. Years ago she told us, when we met her in
N.Y., that a professor had told her in class in her early
years that she had a Cro'-Magnon' head which was very rare -
he never had thought he'd actually see one.
Miss [
1298] says she is now writing a book based on her own
Life Readings and a few of her closest friends who had them.
[In 1965 her book was published.]
4/21/68 HLC heard that [
1298] was in a hospital in Fla. dying
of lung cancer.
4/24/68 HLC wrote her [Dictated
4/21/68]: "Last night Elsie
Sechrist was on the same television show that you appeared on
when I was a guest. I told her that I wished that you were
around so that you could show up again to lend a little color
and dignity to the show again.
"When people go to hospitals there is always this possibility
of using it as a jumping off spot into a new dimension and a
new experience. I hope that isn't the case this time for
you, but if it is, I'll be seeing you along the highways of a
new dimension. I can think of many millions of people who
are far less prepared for new adventures."
9/01/70 Miss [
1298]'s foster niece, Mrs. [
5043], visited
A.R.E., saying that she died in Aug. of 1969; that she was
ready to go, had lived a full life, etc.
