10/28/44 Mr. [
370]'s letter:
Dear Mr. Cayce;
I was out to see my old friend [
1308] at ... after several
weeks intermission, and found him in bed in a very much
weakened condition. He said he was existing on the shots
the Doctor gave him each day. He said he had not written
the letter to you that had been advised and requested some
two months ago. But he urged me to write you for him. I
am truthfully sorry for my old friend - in many ways such
an attractive fellow. He realizes fully what he has brought
on himself for the neglect in times passed [past] in not
abiding carefully by the readings given him. It is
regretable to see him helplessly pleading for help. His
wife has no hope at all for his recovery and has been so for
a long time. The specialist has told her they can only try
to make him comfortable. If a reading for him were possible
today I have my doubts about it being carried out by his
home folks. I am at my ropes end - I have tried hard to get
him to take his treatments heretofore and adhere to his
diet. I [it] could be done for a short time then neglected.
He had very poor cooperation from his wife - who is in many
ways an attractive woman. I gave her my book "There Is A
River" months ago to read but she has never made a comment
on it nor appeared interested. She will be well enough
provided for after his departure. His stamina has been a
surprise to the Doctors treating him, - though they have
never had any hope of his according to what his wife says, I
think they call it a cancer in the prostate. I feel that
this is partly my failure somewhere - I wish I could do
something for so good a friend.
May I ask that you or some of the group offer up some prayers
for Mr. [
1308] - or who ever reads this letter - and give me
or Mr. [
1308] an answer soon that will be of some
consolation?
I am inclosing a small token for the work. I enjoyed greatly
the reading of report on the Congress.
With prayers & thanksgiving for all of you and remembering
the benefits to accrue from the added help from Thomas
Sugrue, I am
Sincerely, [
370]
