5/20/37 Daughter, [
5313]'s letter:
"We have been following your instructions for about two
months now. At first my mother seemed ever so much better,
but for the past three weeks her hands have been getting
worse. At present they are swollen more than they have ever
been before and is spreading to her wrists. Her foot is also
beginning to swell and pain again. She is very discouraged.
Usually in the mornings they are so sore and swollen she
cannot use them then they used to feel better in the
afternoon, but now the condition stays the same all day. We
have had a great deal of rainy and cool weather lately and
she seems to think it has an effect on her condition.
"The pain was so severe that on Monday she went to Dr. Shipe
who gives electrical treatments for it, he has relieved other
people with a similar condition so she wanted to try it, she
had to have some relief. This is the first time she has left
off your treatments since she began them, but she was very
discouraged and was not making any improvement lately. The
Doctor said her blood count was low, and should take liver
extract. We cannot get her to eat liver any more as she is
sick of it she has had too much.
"I think generally speaking, she is better, outside the
condition in her hands, for she used to lie down every
afternoon and retire very early completely exhausted, but now
she seldom retires before nine-thirty or ten o'clock. Her
sleeping has improved a little, but of course now she does
not rest very well on account of the pain.
"I should have given you a report earlier, but we have been
rather upset, having repairs and painting done in the house,
and I think all this has not been so good for mother as she
was continually worrying about the work. I would appreciate
any suggestion you would make in regard to mothers treatment.
Shall I continue with the radio treatments as before even if
she does take these electrical treatments? I do not know how
long she will take them, if they are not helping her she will
not continue. I hated to see her break off, but she was
suffering so I did not know what to advise her to do. I
thought perhaps a change would do her good, it would give her
new courage.
"I want to thank you for the booklets you sent Mr. Cayce. I
enjoyed reading them, especially the one 'There Is A River',
[preface to the book later by Thomas Sugrue under same title.
See under
1800-26 Reports.] it was beautifully written, and
we will want to purchase one of your books when it is
published. I have tried to interest several people in your
work, especially one of my neighbors who is very ill

5/30/37 Daughter, [
5313]'s letter:
"I want to thank you for your early reply to my letter. I
too, think it would be best to have another reading, and the
time you set will be all right.
"I have a friend who is trying to persuade mother to go to
the physical Culture Hotel, at Danville, N.Y., founded by
Bernarr MacFadden. I think the change would be wonderful for
her, but we could not afford to send her there unless it was
really going to do her some good. You might ask that
question, if it does not in any way conflict with your course
of treatment. She needs an uplifting environment, and I know
she would get that there. She is unable to do the housework
so she is just miserable sitting around here when she cannot
help.
"I should like to ask the following questions: Is there any
organic trouble? What is back of the cause? Who is
controlling her? What is causing the swelling in her hands
and left foot, and why is it much worse in the mornings? Are
citrous fruits good for this condition? How long will it
take to clear up this condition? Her blood count is low, how
can we build this up? She has had to take an enema every day
for some time, what shall she take to make her bowels move
naturally? In one of the medical journals, a German Doctor
stated in an article that they were using Brewers Yeast in
the treatment of arthritis, we have just recently started
giving this to her and we should like to continue. Will that
be O.K.?"
Sincerely, [

"Have followed Health Hint many times in taking beef juice 1
teaspoonful 3 times daily. I feel a definite gain in
strength after taking it for one week after having had a
cold."
