1/28/38 EC's letter to his sister, Ola Crume: "...Yours of
24th just to hand, have written Jerry about [
1439] before
your letter came. Had intended to write him before [I] did,
but have been sick. Guess am about played out. Been sick
ever since Christmas week, part time. Haven't been able to
work at all, and that, as you may imagine, puts us all in a
bad shape. Edgar Evans came home last night. Don't know
whether can send him back or not, of course will make the
effort, or Hugh Lynn will, as he goes to N.Y. tonight to see
what can be done.
"Sorry you have been feeling so bad, afraid you haven't taken
all your treatments have you? But certainly hope you will be
feeling better soon. No you had never said anything about
Jerry being out of the car business so of course didn't know.
[
1439] is the husband of one of the ladies [
845] in one of
the Groups in [...]. Have known them for several years,
though have only known [
1439] about six months or more. He
is a fine salesman. Has at times let drink get the best of
him. He had promised to let it all alone. Has never been in
trouble about cars so far as I know anything about, only
drink, and that is enough. While have not wanted to palm him
off on anyone, would like for the boy to have a chance if he
really intends to make good. He can if he will. Have told
Jerry all about this, though think though everything will be
alright..."
9/07/40 Vincent Ober, D.O.'s reply to Questionnaire:
(1) Did the reading presented to you describe the condition
of the patient? "Yes".
(2) Give technical diagnosis. "No physical or lab exam
made."
(3) Were the suggestions for treatment in your opinion
proper for this condition? "Yes".
(4) For what period of time has the patient followed
directions given in the reading under your care? "From Oct.
18th to Nov. 2nd [
1937]."
(5) What results have you observed? "Do not know."
GD's note: Mr. [
1439] never returned to Mrs. [
845]. We
heard years later that he had gotten married to someone else
and was doing alright, though we had no details as to whether
or not he had conquered the drink habit.
