1/14/39 Saturday [

New York
Dear Edgar:-
I found your letter when I got home last night, and hasten to
reply to it because of its last paragraph in which you ask
that I do not condemn, but hold a helpful thought for you.
How could you think for one instant I would do anything but
surround you with every constructive mental concept and
emotional regard of which I am capable?
In telling you that I was sorry the question regarding the
magazine article I am trying to do about you and your work
was not answered, I was merely making a comment by way of
stressing my great interest in doing said article, and regret
that I am so crowded in my life and its work as to make it
difficult to get enough consecutive time in which to write
it. In doing so there was no condemnation in either my mind
or my heart. To me you are a rare and precious gift to the
world, and are performing the service assigned you with
signal unselfishness. Having this concept of you there could
never be anything in my heart and mind for, or regarding you,
save love, appreciation, and a profound desire to be of help
to you.
Furthermore, - a part of MY DAILY PROCEDURE is to clear my
own mind and feeling of negativity, and send into the world
what thought I am capable of sending that will bless, and
save, and heal. Like Paul, "I count not myself to have
attained, but this thing I know, that, forgetting those
things which are behind, I press forward to the high calling
of Christ Jesus, my Lord." (I may not have quoted that
accurately, but it is near enough).
I was Hugh Lynn's guest for dinner last night, and he was
afterward my guest for the theatre. He told me during the
evening that the transition of someone down there very
recently has meant a lot to you [Edith Edmonds, Sec'ty of
A.R.E. Prayer Group]. I don't know the details of this, but
I am sorry for anything that increases your burdens or
affects your health in any way.
In many of my readings I have been reminded by the
"Information" that "we can only do the sowing", while "God
giveth the increase". I find in my own experience WHEN I CAN
let go and let God, - or, - in other words, - do what my
hands and mind and heart are given to do lovingly, kindly and
conscientiously, that is my only job. The rest is up to my
Maker. Of course - as already said - "I count not myself to
have attained." But I shall never stop trying. I speak of
this because I would like to see you turn the responsibility
YOU feel completely over to God. Only thus can either of us
know peace. - Or any one else, for that matter, know it.
I blamed no one that all the questions I asked in my last
reading were not answered. I regretted it but understood
perfectly that you have no control whatever over this. I was
greatly amused over the incident you cited of Mr. Kahn's
effort to force this issue by instructing in the preliminary
suggestion that the "Information" should not stop until all
questions had been answered.
I am resuming the treatment with Dr. Miller to-day. I shall
take the new reading along when I go up there this afternoon,
and show her all parts of it which pertain to the treatment.
I feel the long period (three months) of treatments (already
had) has builded up my vitality and resistance. I have thus
far had no colds this winter, and think my better physical
condition has unquestionably averted this, and hope it may
continue to do so, as I do have a pretty bad time with the
sinus when I have a cold. It is bad enough without that, so
I am grateful not to have had a single one this winter to
date, and wish you, too, could avert them, as they are
miserable things.
Yes, I understand what you mean by questions being answered
at times through implication rather than directly. Also that
the purpose may easily be to stimulate one to think it out
for one's self and thus get the better lesson.
I am tremendously interested in the experience you had
relative to me and my new apartment, even as I was in the
answer to the question I asked about it in my last reading.
I, too, question if it was a dream you had. I think it
likely you came to help in answer to the purpose I had the
evening you spent with me in the apartment when I wanted to
ask you to bless it with a prayer, and somehow couldn't bring
myself to make the request for fear it might embarrass you.
I met the couple who were in the apartment before I took it.
I felt something wrong about them, and simply couldn't bear
the way they had the apartment furnished, and the whole
atmosphere they had created there. I went there several
times before they moved for some measurements for my
bookcases etc., and couldn't get out quick enough to suit
me each time. But I never dreamed in my wildest imaginings
that anything of this would remain after they had moved. I
think your impression that the vibration left by this band
master and his young wife due to a serious triangle quite
likely and the symbology of the Circle to be drawn around
this triangle is very significant, for the Circle is a
Symbol of unity - or God. What the Cedar and Hyslop mean,
however, I have no idea. Anyway the whole experience is
most interesting, and affords another evidence of the deep
purpose of service that pervades even your subconsciousness.
I have written this in the office and spent considerable time
doing it while work lies piled high on my desk, so I must now
stop. I will send it air-mail, special delivery that you may
have it to-morrow. With it goes my love; my abiding wish for
your welfare and peace, and a further desire for all of Good
(God) for your household.
Faithfully yours, [

1/17/39 EC's ltr. to [
1472]:
Dear [
1472]:
Mighty nice of you to write me on the 14th - think I am
feeling a whole lot better this morning. And many thing
possibly contribute to that - and not a small one your
letter.
Some times I get to feeling that can explain most everything
about the readings - then realize from some happening that I
know absolutely nothing about them. Why they do this or that
now and then can never tell you - I try but guess am like
poor old Peter - declare this or that and before the day is
over have denied my Lord more than once - but personally have
had the assurance that He has offered a prayer for me also -
and have work yet to do.
Heard H. L. last evening not so well as our radio is on the
bumb - but think it the best programme yet - what did you
think of it?
Oh - I know - if I know anything of myself can do nothing the
responsibility is keeping this body of mine a fit channel for
God to use for service to His children - that is my job - and
not HIS but am so weak - so easy for me to tumble off the
applecart - get a bit panicky at times.
Hope you and Dr. Miller make out fine - feel sure she wishes
to do the best - may like myself have poor judgement at
times.
Hope things are getting better about the apartment - and feel
they will - like a programme heard last night 10:30 over
Columbia the talking statue - some of the best lines have
heard in a long time in it didn't happen to hear it did you?
Snow - the first of the season here yesterday - but is bright
today and guess most of it will leave.
Write when you can all send love and regards.
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
2/22/39 Letter: I feel you should know that I have come to
the conclusion that Dr. Mary Miller follows your readings
only in a general way.
I have been having her treatment for now five months. These
treatments and the Readings combined have cost me nearly two
hundred dollars, and for the past two weeks I have seemed
right back where I was when they started. The sinus
condition has never improved under the Miller treatments,
and now the terrible aching has all come back to the left
kidney, and I am otherwise seemingly just about where I
started. I have felt I got some help from the
electro-therapy part of the procedure, but otherwise none.
I think this has lifted my vitality, even as the Readings
said it would. The Readings ALL said THIS should be
stressed and very little of the chiropractic adjustment
given. Well, she HAS given the electro-therapy, but SHE HAS
ALSO GONE IN HEAVY FOR THE CHIROPRACTIC STUFF. You see, she
BELIEVES in the LATTER, and therefore substitutes HER
JUDGMENT for the instruction of the Readings where they do
not harmonize. At least that is MY analysis. I ASKED her
if she had followed the instructions given her in my
Readings accurately, and her answer was "in a general way."
Well, "a general way" is not satisfactory to me when I am
myself following he Readings to the very letter. So, I am
stopping the treatments now. I feel she has had time enough
to have shown some real results. FIVE WHOLE MONTHS of
faithfulness on my part would seem to me sufficient to show
at least SOME improvement. There have been periods when I
felt I was getting somewhere with Miller, but those periods
were brief and transitory. Nothing PERMANENT in it.
So, again I take the vehicle God has given me through which
to express Life and offer it to Him. Thus at least some of
the strain and striving for human help will be lifted from my
mind and heart.
I speak of all this JUST FOR THE SAKE OF OTHERS. I feel YOU
SHOULD KNOW that Dr. Miller does not adhere to the Readings
with any degree of accuracy for the protection of others.
2/24/39 EC's letter to [
1472]:
Dear [
1472]:
Thanks again for yours of the 22nd - sorry you are not
feeling so good - well it is hard for a body like Dr. Miller
to get away from their own personalities - find trouble like
that here and there in many and divers places - and at times
am proned to feel the information must be not consistent as
it should be - or something is wrong - yet - how often do we
find then there is just that given done - no more or less
wonderful results come - so one doesn't know just what to say
or do. But do hope you find the very thing that is for you
at this time, and that soon you are feeling your own good
self again. [Next paragraph used in
1822-1 Reports.]
What a mass of thoughts must bound on my poor weak brain -
all the things people say and think of me - Oh well if it
wasn't that I knew it is not me - what a wreck I would be in
deed. My head would swell at time to bursting and others -
be certainly taken away.
Glad you saw H. L. lately he is pretty well balanced don't
you think for a boy - or at least to us.
Write when you have chance - all send love and regards
Ever the same, [signed] Edgar Cayce
4/07/39 [
1472]'s letter to EC:
I know you will be interested to know that I am getting great
help from Mr. B. A. Copeland of the Copeland Masso-therapy
Institute at Freeport, L.I. He is not an M.D. but treats
along the chiropractic line, altho quite different from Dr.
Mary Miller. Copeland found my sacrum out of place; the
lower organs completely prolapsed, and vertebrae twisted.
Since the discovery of such things is supposed to be the main
accomplishment of the chiropractors I can't think much of Dr.
Miller's ability when she discovered NONE of these things in
SIX MONTHS of steadily examining, diagnosing and treating me.
I have now had six treatments from Copeland, and EVERYTHING
is better. He says the pressures from the misplaced sacrum
and the prolapsed organs was such on the kidney that it could
not drain; that this resulted in the pus capsule; pain etc.
Well, he has put the sacrum back in place, and this pulls the
muscles up, and takes in their sag, which in turn pulls the
organs back up into place. Well, the whole effect is
marvelous. I feel such release from the dragging down ache I
formerly had; a great surge of new vitality, and less pain in
the kidney. I know you will be happy to hear about all this,
for it means a real hope on my part of getting well, and able
to function in my life and work under less trying conditions
than formerly.

Dear Edgar:-
This can be only a wee message to explain my not having
written. My secretary has been quite ill and is still out of
the office. She contracted a bad cold about two weeks ago;
insisted on working until she got congestion of the lungs and
a week ago had to give up and go to bed. In the meantime I
caught her cold, - which is my deadliest foe because of a
chronic sinus and tonsil infection. A cold invariably hits
these infected spots and is worse for me than the average
person. I have, therefore, worked all week with a
temperature and have been miserably ill, but have stuck to
the office because of secretary's absence. I have been going
almost daily to an ear, nose, and throat specialist, - a very
noted woman here. She is Dr. Anne Belcher and has an
enormous practice. I had her a year when I first developed
the sinus infection three years ago, and she said then my
tonsils were deeply embedded and badly infected, and should
come out. I believed they would get well without an
operation, so I didn't have them out. Now she says the sinus
and tonsils are in an acute state of infection because of my
failure to have the tonsils out. Well, I don't know about
what might have happened had I had the operation when she
first advised it, but I do know things are pretty difficult
now.
All the above has also brought back the kidney condition, -
and the Copeland treatments seem for naught.
This explains my not having written, and my writing no more
than this now.
Thanks for both your notes. Also Hugh Lynn for his note.
The time set for my Egyptian Reading is alright for me. I
just hope nothing happens to prevent my getting down there on
the 7th as now planned. Tell Hugh Lynn he forgot to send me
the Warner Hotel folder he said he was inclosing. I wrote
the hotel confirming my reservation, and asked them to send
the literature when answering my letter. Thus far I have not
heard from them, but suppose I will. Anyway Hugh Lynn might
send the folder he left out.
I had a beautiful birthday on the 5th. [
1151] and [
1158]
were my guests for dinner and we had a wonderful evening in
the apartment after dinner. [
1151] had a beautiful vision
while I was talking to him about the Jacob Boehme teachings.
My apartment was filled with gifts of flowers, - and it
seemed somehow significant that every flower sent there was
WHITE, - calla lilies, white tulips; lilies of the valley and
gardenias. Perhaps they point the purity of thought and
purpose I am required to reach. In any event they were very
lovely and lifted me to great heights at the time.
Now I must stop. My love to all of you. [

5/18/39 [
1472]'s letter: My specialist thinks I shall have
great help in "baking" when at the beach. I am still going
to her twice a week for the infected tonsils and sinus, and
rather suspect she is right in her statement that I shall
have to have the diseased tonsils out to get rid of that as
well as the sinus infection. However, she has helped the
ACUTE condition, and I am back to the chronic state where I
can get along.
6/09/39 She obtained a Ck. Life Reading - See

7/26/39 See letter under
1472-10 saying she feels that most
of her fatigue comes from her distressing dreams or
nightmares.
9/20/40 [
1472]'s letter to EC: I have been through a very
trying time with a new French specialist here who is treating
me for my sinus condition. It got so bad while I was away on
my vacation that I decided to follow the advice of a trusted
friend here to try this new man and the treatment is very
painful. Also the results are painful so I don't know what
to think. Since I started it I am determined to go through
with it however, - at least until I can decide whether or not
he is going to help me. I'd do anything, bear any suffering,
if I thought he could cure me.
I hope you are feeling yourself again and that all is well
with your entire household.
Lovingly yours, [

12/20/40 [
1472]'s letter to EC: I have been greatly helped
by the Bragg vitamins which the [
1100]'s recommended to me.
I have now been taking them faithfully for two weeks and feel
much more vitality and "pep". Gaining this there is greater
resistance to sickness, and the sinus has been better, as
well as other chronic conditions from which I suffer. Did
you get the book ("Outwitting Illness" by Paul Bragg) and are
you following the regime endorsed by [
1100] and [
470]? If so
I hope it does you as much good as it has done me, for I am
certainly better in every way, and am very grateful to them
for telling me about the procedure.
2/02/41 [

Palm Beach Hotel
Palm Beach, Florida
Sunday Night
Edgar dear:
You'll be surprised to know I have been in Florida for the
past ten days, and will be here until the end of this week,
leaving Friday the 7th for home.
My coming was very sudden. I had a letter from a friend who
is spending the winter at Winter Park, Florida, for her
health, which has not been so good for several years. She
had been better, however, and suggested my joining her, and
her husband (both friends of long standing) for a week or
two. I went to no end of trouble arranging - or rather
rearranging lectures so that I could go.
Well, last Friday morning I had my grips all packed and in
the station when I received a wire from my friend's husband
saying she was considerably worse and advising me to postpone
my trip. Having made all arrangements for a vacation I
phoned down here to see if I could get hotel reservations,
and, succeeding in doing so, switched to another train and
was on my way in less than three hours after receiving the
telegram not to go to Winter Park.
I am now very grateful that it all happened as it did, for I
have no strings on me here, such as I would have had with
personal friends, and am trying to get myself more fit for my
job during these two weeks I shall be here. I am having
daily oil rubs and massages before taking my sun bath in the
nude. The hotel has a fine Solarium for women, and the sun
has been glorious every day since I came so that we are
quite warm in the open with no clothes on. After the sun
bath I take an ocean dip, and at night dance a bit, and
otherwise relax. I did not know how tired I was until I got
here and really let down. And the sinus has extended the
infection to my eyes. I went to see my eye specialist just
before leaving New York and he says the condition is very
bad. Also the neuritis has returned to my left arm, and the
left kidney (which is also infected) has been aching terribly
of late, so I was altogether much in need of this rest.
I am delighted to know that you are better, but mighty sorry
to learn that Gertrude is still having trouble with her eye.
Give her my love and sympathy. And let me hear from you
soon.
Devotedly, [

4/06/42 [
1472]'s letter to EC:
Dear Edgar:
Could you give me a physical reading next Saturday afternoon?
This would be April 11th, and I am wondering if it would be
convenient to make it at two P.M. instead of 3? If not,
three will be alright. If you will glance through my
questions inclosed you will understand just why I want it. I
have never understood why so many others have gotten physical
help through the information given you in the physical
readings while I did not. I was faithful to all instructions
given me, and spent two entire winters following them, with
an attendance expense to me of over two hundred dollars. I
am, therefore, asking where the trouble lay in my very first
question, in the hope of learning if the fault was mine that
I may correct it, and get some results from this reading.
I am not going to take time this morning to answer your
letter, which has just been received, as I want to get this
off to you at once so that I will know as soon as possible
whether or not you have the time free for a physical reading
for me Saturday afternoon of this week. I will be grateful
if you will let me know by return mail that I may be able to
properly plan the time. I will arrange to stay home during
the "reading" which will be in my apartment on the third
floor of ..., New York City.
Thanks for your letter, which I will answer later.
Lovingly, [
1472]
4/08/42 [
1472]'s letter to EC:
New York
Dear Edgar:
Thanks for your note which arrived by special delivery
to-day.
When writing you I forgot that you do not like to give a
reading within an hour of eating, so three o'clock will be
alright. You said 2:30 in your note so I will be at my
apartment by them and remain there until four, so if you feel
three is better for you it will be alright with me.
I have been so physically wretched all winter it has been a
great handicap. Just an exaggeration of the old stand-bys.
The sinus infection which I have had about eight years has
been worse and more constant this winter than at any time
since I have had it. Various throat infections have
periodically made it worse, and I think these may have been
the result of so much lecturing. Then I have suffered from
violent indigestion and nausea, and the pelvic adhesions
which I have had for years as the result of a major operation
have become so bad that I am in constant pain and dragging
fatigue from them. Also the kidney infection which I have
had intermittently for some years has been more constant this
past year, so that it aches most of the time. Add to this a
great sense of exhaustion and you have a pretty messed up
physical vehicle through which to function. My doctor has
repeatedly told me that any one of with less will and
determination would be in bed instead of daily driving in a
big job. I have had my regular doctor (Dr. Irene Gates) and
a sinus specialist now and again throughout the winter. I
sometimes get a little temporary help, but neither gives me
any hope of permanent help, and both say I "never will be
well". "NEVER" is a long time, and I do not believe it true.
If I had sufficient spiritual understanding I am sure I would
be able to dissolve the whole thing by this means, but I do
not seem to have enough knowledge to accomplish it. So,
we'll see what the information which comes through you will
have to say Saturday.
I had a letter this morning from Hugh Lynn. I wrote him an
immediate answer, and in it told him to tell you that three
oclock Sat. will be alright with me. He said he is coming up
soon to see Sloane about the book, and arrange for your
forthcoming visit. I am glad to know this, for there is much
I want to talk with him about the Association and work. I'm
afraid two of the people I have interested in having
"readings" will not have the money to do so when you are here
this time. It is a bad time because every one up here has
just had to pay both Federal and State taxes, and they are
financially stripped. I had expected to have a new "reading"
while you are here, using part of my annual dues on same, but
decided it might be more important to have the physical
"check" instead. I can't do both right now. I told Hugh
Lynn to read my questions for the Saturday "reading" and add
any he thinks might help. Another result of the sinus
infection is that it has spread to my eyelids. They are
crusted every morning, and sting and itch all the time.
Maybe I should have asked something about this? I just
thought it would be seen and taken up without a separate
question, as it is all a part of the sinus infection, - or
rather both sinus and eyes seem to be part of the general
infection, which is a left-over of the operation which almost
cost me my life in 1904. I have been suffering this low
grade infection (according to all the doctors) throughout my
system ever since. They say the kidney trouble; the
adhesions; the sinus and eye business ARE ALL DUE TO THIS.
So, now you know my whole miserable story. I have never gone
into it with you to this extent before because I hate
mentioning it, but I think it may be well to do so JUST THIS
ONCE, and ask you to show this letter to Hugh Lynn that he
may reword any of my questions to better cover the situation
if he thinks it wise to do so. I would like my first
question to remain as it is. Also my last one. But if he
thinks best to change any of the others, or add any further
ones I will be grateful for the help, for I do greatly hope
for some help from this "reading".
Hugh Lynn writes me you are enjoying the gardening and
fishing now that the weather is nice. I just wish I were
there in my house right now!
I had a long letter from Raymond McDermott and he is going to
give me his interpretation of my natal horoscope. I can
hardly wait to see what he says about it. Like yourself, I
have had many interpretations of my chart, and one alike.
That is none alike in INTERPRETATION. So I am keen for
McDermott's approach, and will let you read it after I get
it.
Love to all the family and heaps for my Edgar from [
1472]
P.S. I don't want the question about the large dosage of
Vitamin A changed either. This is recommended by the Oregon
specialists and the chemical company making it out there
mentioned in the question. My own doctor does not approve
it, but that is just because the advice comes from some one
other than herself, and professional jealousy is back of her
disapproval I am sure. Dr. Ullman in his book on sinus says
A HUNDRED THOUSAND UNITS A DAY must be taken to have any
effect on sinus. So does the Norwegian doctor mentioned in
my question, and he has been experimenting on sinus with it
with fine results for the past four years. So, if your
information says to take it I will, altho it costs $10 a
bottle and must be taken for two years according to these
doctors.
