This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 14th day of October, 1938, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [1497], Associate Member of the Ass'n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Present: Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.

TEXT

1. GC: You will have before you the material mind and body of [1497], whose office is at ..., N.Y.C., and who is now at the Union League Club, in contemplation of this Reading, 38 East 37th St., N.Y.C., - his activities, associations, material and financial welfare and that of his dependents - seeking advice and guidance regarding questions on the static eliminator tube previously dealt with through these sources; as I ask them:
2. EC: We have the body, the enquiring mind, [1497]; together with the information which has been given regarding static eliminator.
3. Ready for questions.
4. (Q) Due to technical requirements and suggestions of the Hygrade-Sylvania Corporation for building experimental tubes, please advise as to whether the revisions in the design first submitted to them, which are illustrated graphically in the chart marked X presented here, will bring the correct result previously specified through these sources?
   (A) These are upon the correct manner. As we find, as has been given heretofore, these will merely require that tests be made in respect to same. These are upon the correct channel, and should bring results - with the changes as will be seen apparent as it is worked upon.
5. (Q) Whereas, the three groups of discs on the two cathodes are each 1/32nd of an inch apart, - is it desirable or necessary to separate the mica layers in each group by small spaces equal to the thickness of one layer?
   (A) Not necessary to separate each individual layer of the mica, but of the groups, - yes.
6. (Q) To obtain proper and sure contact, with the edges of the discs, of the metal wires which lead to ground, small metal washers are to be placed around these wires and between the mica layers as well as between the groups of discs. This provision is in substitution of the bakelite spacers suggested previously through these sources. Will this metal separation be satisfactory between the groups of discs?
   (A) Should be MOST satisfactory. Should not extend over the edge of the discs to too great an extent, but just sufficient to make the contact, see? If this is not run ALL the way around the discs, it would be much preferable - but as a clamp over the edge of disc.
7. (Q) Would insulation such as lava, which is impervious to the tube's heat, be satisfactory?
   (A) Rather those that make a more perfect contact than the lava.
8. (Q) Due to the very small space, the tube makers wish to use metal washers between the edges of the mica layers of each group. Is this satisfactory?
   (A) As has been indicated, this is satisfactory - would be more preferable - it's not necessary, on the edge of the mica, for these to extend the full width or circumference of the disc, see?
9. (Q) Is it necessary that the discs be directly WITHIN the stream of electrons from the cathodes to the anode?
   (A) Not necessarily in direct, but just so the connection is from each in its proper sphere or space.
10. (Q) In connecting this double or full-wave rectifier to the radio amplifier, is it necessary or desirable to take the static impulses from the discs, by the wires which touch their edges, and lead them, by separate coils into the coupling coil for the amplifier, so that an opposing, inductive relationship is set up to neutralize any static impulses going directly into the coupler from the antenna, as shown on chart labelled "A" submitted herewith?
    (A) This is the correct manner.
11. (Q) Should the static impulses from one cathode be used to bias the ground, and from the other to bias the antenna as shown in the chart labelled "B"?
    (A) This is correct.
12. (Q) Did my explanation to the engineers of the tube maker that this device was based on the principle of the electrophorus cause their expressed skepticism?
    (A) This naturally would cause the expression of skepticism, but if this is made in the direction that has been indicated, it is correct.
13. (Q) Was my explanation correct?
    (A) As given.
14. (Q) Will these mica discs differentiate between static impulses and broadcast signals as to the pulse time factor, so that they will by-pass static but not by-pass broadcast signals due to the EXTREME SHORTNESS of static pulses?
    (A) This is correct.
15. (Q) Will these mica discs differentiate between static impulses and broadcast signals because the former flows in one direction only while the latter flows alternately in both directions, hence, the static will CHARGE the discs while the broadcast signal will NOT charge the discs?
    (A) That's correct. Hence the static will charge the discs and be eliminated, while the signals will move in one direction.
16. (Q) Will it be satisfactory to use mica brackets to support these elements within the tube, as required by the tube maker?
    (A) It should be correct.
17. (Q) Any other advice or information to the entity at this time?
    (A) As we have indicated, these are being worked, when the suggestions and the set rules here are in the correct direction - and if these are worked out as has been indicated from the diagrams and from the charts here. These should make for the correct correcting of those conditions which hinder through static interference.
18. We are through for the present.

REPORTS

1. 10/20/38 EC's letter to HLC: "Have you seen Mr. [1497]? He had another reading on the eliminator recently - one I understood best of all - and a very peculiar experience at the time of that reading [See EC's comment at end of 1497-9]. See him if you get a chance."
2. 10/22/38 [1497]'s letter to EC:
   New York
   Murray Hill ...
   Dear Mr. Cayce;-
I received the reading and it was quite definite and fully confirmed my faith. I have ordered the tubes to be made - also with faith that the money to pay for them and the experimental work will be forthcoming.
The past six months have been hard ones - but my faith is stronger although forces keep drawing me from its "line" - to which I manage to return.
The attached request has been carefully written. Things are becoming more crystallized and there is real substance to what is now ready for sale - but I need direction and specific advice. It would help both Mrs. [1498] as well as me - her service is the harder one - as always - that of standing aside and "waiting".
Please set a date as soon as a time is available and I trust a full and complete commentary will come through - fraught with encouragement and a chart for progress out of the darkness through which I have walked for so long.
Thank you much and with kindest regards to all.
   Sincerely, [1497]
3. 10/28/38 He obtained a Ck. Life Reading regarding his general welfare - See 1497-10.
4. 12/05/38 [1497]'s letter to HLC:
Mr. Hugh Lynn Cayce, c/o Hotel McAlpin, Broadway at 34th Street, New York, N.Y.
   Dear Hugh Lynn:
I enjoyed the broadcast [HLC's radio program Mysteries of the Mind] very much, and feel that there should be considerable popular appeal. It was dramatic and well conceived. My sincere wishes for its success as an outstanding vehicle for public enlightenment go along with a very favorable impression.
I have been pretty well tied up with affairs and hope that several of the things I now have under way will prove successful. You will recall that when we spoke last you were going to get the reading for me on the static device which was given several years ago to a man in Dayton. [[2492] series] You made a note of it at the time, and I have been looking forward to receiving it.
Please call me when you get the time so we can have lunch together again. With kindest regards I am
   Yours sincerely, [1497]
5. 2/27/39 He obtained another reading on the static eliminator - See 1497-12.
