2/11/38 [
1530]'s ltr. to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce;
Received your letter this morning - and I am very glad that
you wrote it, as one always should acknowledge a letter.
My reaction to the life reading was such that I wanted to
write you - seemed that I owed it to myself to do so - and
then I thought - if I do that - they will simply think -
that I cannot take it... And I can assure you such is not
the case...
After all, all we have to express ourselves with are - words
- and many times they are poor vehicles indeed. But until
that time when we have perfected ourselves to that degree
where thought will be the universal language, I suppose we
will have to continue to use - words. That was one
consolation I received out of the first part of the reading.
To quote - "In giving the INTERPRETATIONS of the records."
Please know that I read and re-read the reading many times.
I gave up an appointment which I always have on Wednesday, so
important was the subject matter to me, so I am not sending
any snap impressions.
My daughter who is in the mental hygiene work, she is a
director of Physical Education in the grade schools and
teaches in the high-school upstate. It is a grand field for
her to work in quietly - the things that are coming to light
today. Being brought up in this thought (psychic) she has no
doubts of any kind she simply applies and of course it
works... Well she used to tell me that I do too much
introspection - as near as I can see that is what is meant by
the word "paraded" in the 8th paragraph of page 2 [1530-1,
Par. 15]. I could go on in a long disortation [dissertation]
as to friends and contacts I have made in many parts of the
country. I have made a host of friends. I am somewhat
amused at what is supposed to be new today, this
psychoanalyzing. Years ago I used to say to folks "if it
will help you to get things off from your chest - go to it"
and then all these things would pour forth and they would be
relieved. Years later some would say "Are you a teacher"?
"No," I always replied "I'm just a natural." All of this is
beside the point, you want to know my reaction to the
reading.
Well it was an unhappy one - 'tis well I have been taught to
build a philosophy to know that (there are reasons for all
things). It seems to me however - from various experiences
and friends I have contacted, that I have attained the art of
evaluation. This too is referring to paragraph 8, page 2
[1530-1, Par. 15].
Now as to the questions - I perhaps didn't put them clearly.
The question #1 [Par. 47-A] - what I meant was that these
children were born under peculiar circumstances. I have
been and am very close to them - but they are on their own
feet - and are working in wonderful fields. As I used to
put it in my own way - the girl works in the building of the
souls of children, helps them to really live life and the boy
helps build the cities for the lovely bodies to dwell in.
Both are in constructive work, thank God. They are a great
joy to me.
The answer to question #2 [Par. 48-A] I really cannot see
the answer, unless it wasn't to be given, which will be all
right. What I meant was simply this - that some folks take
on work that they are not capable of carrying through. For
example take a Christian Science healer or any healer -
they contract diseases and pass out with it. If they were
qualified or in good health this wouldn't have happened. In
these cases the old idea of right and wrong doesn't work out.
One simply must know... I would dislike very much to start
something that I couldn't finish...
As to the 3 question [49-A] I always try to do that - I may
have my own particular way - but the idea is universal - that
is I feel the allness in ONE Divine God.
Much of the reading was impressive and I can harken to much
of it - of course the essence of it. Particularly the
FREEDOM - in ALMOST EVERYTHING. And the working in new
fields the new dispensations - I have continually worked as a
pioneer during this life. I am now one in your very valuable
association...
However, I would like to ask one question, and that is - who
is meant by "we" used all during the reading? And yes, this
too - at the foot of page one [1530-1, Par. 7] you say "The
entity as we find in the present is in the processes of
development." Well aren't we all??
I sincerely hope this letter finds your health improving day
by day. Thank you for your letter, the delay, I didn't mind.
I was willing to let any healing reading go before mine. As
that is the great work.
Cordially yours, [
1530]
2/15/38 EC's letter to Mrs. [
1530]:
Dear Mrs. [
1530]:
Thanks for yours of the 11th, our purpose is to make if
possible the information in the readings practical, if they
didn't tell us of our faults as well as our virtues, well
wouldn't be much help and might make us egotistical.
Appreciate your writing me as you have, and feel sure as you
study over the information from time to time, you will get
a new meaning. I believe we grow to the meaning of such
information - just as we apply the text of the scripture
in our daily life, it takes on new meanings for us. Most
interesting what you tell me about your Daughter's work,
would like to meet and talk with her. Is very good that
you can and do see some of the conditions referred to in
the reading in your experiences all these well are
assurances.
Often wonder Mrs. [
1530] about the information, as to its
answer to questions at times. It answers and yet, doesn't
answer at all possibly puts it in such a way that many
understandings might be taken from what is said, not a
parable, but is a parable as it were, feel sure tho as you
study the information as a whole you will get more and more,
and does there arise questions, when my Son is in N.Y. (and
he will be next month) have him go over the whole reading
with you, he has made a special study of the Life Readings,
in fact began the study with the intent of proving there was
nothing in them of value, and proved to himself otherwise, so
feel he is very good in helping others in understanding the
readings.
Now - who is meant by "WE" - I would certainly like to know
myself. Have asked the information often - always answers -
but one of these answers that to my little mind might mean
any thing, and yet does mean every thing but you ask my
son this when you see him, it is such a long answer would
possibly fill a page or so. But I do not think it means
individual entities. But rather the universal consciousness.
While that still doesn't explain who "WE" is and requires
a lot of explaining from the information's standpoint.
Yes, sir, all in the process of development that very true -
unless we are going backward, think some must be doing that
don't you think?
Thanking you again for your letter, and hope as any other
question or point comes to your mind you will let us hear
from you.
With all good wishes
Sincerely, [signed] Edgar Cayce
2/17/38 [
1530]'s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce;
Thank you for your letter of the 15th. I was just going over
the reading when it arrived. You are certainly right in
saying that there is as much value in pointing out the faults
as well as the virtues - and I couldn't be so inconsistent to
accept one part and not another.
But for the life of me I cannot apply some of it. If I ever
had a fear that I was aware of, it is, that I might hurt some
one unintentionally. When some one is criticized in this
house I always say "Well she is herself, that is what makes
us all so different and interesting." People mean so much to
me.
Well I suppose if we weren't hit in a vital spot, it wouldn't
be so impressive. So I shall be very glad indeed to have
your son go over the reading with me when he comes to New
York. Some folks are just curious with these things - it
means far more than that to me.
I like your comparison of the reading to the text of the
scripture, not that I am such a good student of the bible,
but it does make sense. I do believe that ALL knowledge has
to grow on us, and we do get new meanings out of things as we
grow - sort of a catching up process. Must be the answers
are given that way.
I shall certainly be glad to get more information about "We"
still your idea appeals to me - a universal consciousness -
there is so much to explore there.
About this process of development, my sense of evolution
doesn't permit me to picture anything going backward - BUT I
will say that some of us get caught in some awful snags...
4/19/38 She referred her son, Mr. [
1574], for a Life Rdg.
6/28/38 See her personal message in
254-101, Par. 26-A.
9/26/38 She obtained a Physical Reading -

11/11/43 [
1530]'s letter to EC:
..., Street
Dear Mr. Cayce -
Heard you Tuesday night at Steinway Hall. The crowd was so
great that I didn't want to even try to get to the stage to
see you and Mrs. Cayce - much as I wanted to... So will
write this little note and tell you how much I liked your
talk. You really did have a "message" and I only hope many
more got it... I want to say - I was pleased to see how well
you looked.
Brought me back to the time I visited Virginia Beach - and
we went on that fishing trip... Somehow it brought me to a
dream you told us about - one you got on different occasions.
And I presumed to interpret. I might go so far as to say -
some of it was right - because you have carried it out -
otherwise you wouldn't look as well as you [do] and still be
able to bring the simple and important message which you do
- if one really wants to find it...
I did so want to see Hugh Lynn. He is such a fine boy - if
you can remember it - I wish you would remember me to him
when you write him... I am so glad I knew him when things
weren't in such a turmoil and we did have TIME TO VISIT...
He gave me plenty of time while here and to my son also. My
son is a Lt. in the Marines - somewhere in the Pacific...
Hugh Lynn was so nice to him - and I know has an interest
in him - due to the reading too...
You certainly are right when you say "it is something worth
while when one is a hero to one's boys..." I didn't know the
younger one so much but if he is anything like Hugh Lynn - I
can appreciate him too... He has such a well balanced
understanding of the work... I told him of something which
happened while in Virginia Beach and he said "don't you know
what that means?" He didn't tell me - and since then it has
come to me... So you see how wise he was...
Well since then I have been to the West Coast for a time...
Then lived in New Jersey... Now I am back in New York - and
alone... All of my family is in the Service. My daughter
is an Ensign - now stationed in Washington D.C. My husband
in Canada and [
1574] in the Pacific... I have always had
healing in mind... A very new thing started in Red Cross
this Spring - Dietitian's Aide - so I took the course and
last night we received our certificates... I can tell you
there is NO GLAMOUR to it... Any one who cooks or is around
cooking knows that... The hours are odd but it's a start -
if a humble one... I am working in the New York hospital and
the staff is fine to work with which always helps...
This note has lengthened out to a letter... So many things
happen so fast - seems there are endless things to talk about
(other than ourselves). Read from Nancy's [Nancy Fullwood's]
book this morning and she always makes me think of you too...
Fortunate I was to have known her and call her friend - her
work lives on too. And please tell Mrs. Cayce - some of us
know the work that goes on behind the scenes and
appreciate...
Sincerely, [
1530]
1/31/50 Friend's letter: "Our mutual friend, Mrs. [
1530],
through the years has told me much of your work... She has
been through a very difficult period, but you may rest
assured that in her own way she is 'working'."
