3/27/39 Mr. [

1568] had a bad attack -
I was there today. He wrote this information in longhand -
I copied it.
"Mrs. [
1582] was told by her doctor she had a bad bladder and
stone and needed an operation. She went to Johns Hopkins for
a week - got home today and the reading was right - she only
has a nervous stomach.
"Mr. [
1568] asked me to come up. He wants this check-up in
a hurry. He is at home...wire him the time - he is not going
out. He did not sign an application as he had none, but the
attached [See directly below] is in his own handwriting."

Following receipt of Reading of Apr. 11th 1938 all of the
directions given were followed and the last slight attack
of pyloric spasm occurred on May 9th 1938.
Since June 1938 none of the suggestions about taking olive
oil & saffron tea etc. have been followed although much
greater care was taken about diet and alcoholic drinks
than previously.
The check reading of Nov. 4th 1938 seemed to confirm the
improvement noted and as there had been no recurrence of
any of the old symptoms, I just went along in a normal mode
of living.
On Wed. evening March 22nd, I had a very severe and prolonged
attack of pyloric spasms which lasted four hours and which
necessitated morphine hypodermically to quiet. Was in bed
for two days on liquid diet and have been home now five days
in all and appear to be well over the attack but have not
yet started to eat meat or my normal type of meals.
Will you please give me a check reading and answer the
following questions.
1. What was the cause of the violent attack referred to
above?
2. Realizing that pyloric spasm is only a reflex and is
caused by something affecting adjacent parts or organs can
you state which parts or organs fail to function thus causing
the spasm?
3. Is the cause due to a defect in or faulty functioning
of the gall bladder?
4. Are there stones in the gall bladder?
5. Is the appendix in any way involved?
6. Is the pancreas in any way involved?
7. For lunch on the day of the last attack I had a Martini
Cocktail, an assortment of cold hors d'oeuvres, (stuffed
eggs, sardines, codfish roe), one mouthful of breaded veal
cutlet, some fried potatoes & peas and a cup of coffee & a
small glass of Benedictine (less than a mouthful). For the
evening meal I only had milk toast & ice cream. I took a
dose of alcaroid at 5:00 P.M. and another after the evening
meal at 8:30, but the attack came on in spite of this. Is
the food taken at lunch, or the drinks, responsible for the
attack?
3/31/39 Wire: FIRST OPENING MONDAY AFTERNOON THREE-THIRTY
FOUR-THIRTY ADVISE IF SATISFACTORY AT HOME.
