1/17/39 GD's letter to Edward J. Barber:
[See Case History under 1594-1.]
Dear Mr. Barber: -
This is the report I have written for you of the [...] case,
in accordance with request made by Hugh Lynn Cayce. He says
that you are willing to have the first three Readings on this
case charged to your account (under the head of the Readings
sponsored by you). I told the [...] family this, and they
are certainly grateful. It is a pitiful yet beautiful sight
to see the loving care and devotion they are giving that
child. It is a beautiful child, too. They have two other
children, one older and one younger than [
1594]. Mr. [...]
is a carpenter, who makes only a small salary; and when the
child was in the hospital they got him to sign away a certain
amount of his pay each month for two or three years to come,
to take care of the hospital bills. So it leaves them with
barely enough to exist on.
I trust you will be in Virginia Beach this summer, if not
before, and can see this case for yourself.
With kind regards and appreciation for your help in the
carrying forward of this research, I am
Sincerely, [signed] Gladys Davis, Secretary to Mr. Cayce
P.S. I forgot to mention that the doctors told Mr. [...] the
baby fortunately would not live very long; could not in its
condition.
GD - Remarks: She picks up things and plays with them. Uses
her hands so much better. Can sit up for a minute or two at
the time, alone, without being propped. Crawls or rolls
around on the floor. Looks so much more expressive and
interested in everything that goes on around her. Used to
have twitching spells in the night, but hasn't had any now
since way last fall. Laughs and plays and tries to talk;
recognizes various ones in the family and tries to talk to
them. If she drops something, she can reach and pick it up
with one hand; can now eat Zwieback herself, or hold such
things to her mouth, whereas she used to have to be fed every
single thing - couldn't put anything to her mouth.
Mr. Cayce has offered to give us another Reading on Thursday
afternoon, the 26th, so we can check up and be sure we are
doing everything that should be done.
Just after we started the Appliance treatment, Mr. Cayce
suggested that we have a physician come in occasionally to
observe [
1594]'s progress, so that we would be sure to have
his approval of what we were doing, and his cooperation if
needed. I (the father) didn't care about the doctor's
approval, having been "fed up" with doctors; but because
Mr. Cayce wanted it I called in Dr. Taylor again. He said
there was no doubt but what [
1594] had improved greatly, and
he would advise continuing with what we were doing; it
certainly couldn't do any harm, and might help. He said
there was no use for him to come again, but if we needed him
to let him know. When the weather gets nicer, we're going to
take [
1594] by for him to see now; he certainly will be
surprised to see her so improved.
1/19/39 GD's letter to HLC:
"...The [
1594] baby case report, I mailed to Mr. Barber
several days ago. I'm sorry I was so late getting it, but I
had to go over there one evening and take down the facts;
then had to copy the gist of each reading, etc. I tried to
put in everything of importance..."
