GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions he has submitted as I ask them:
EC: Yes, as we find, in considering the physical condition, necessarily many factors are to be considered. While there has been some little progress recently, and there is more feeling coming to the lower extremities, we find that the lack of the nerve plexus being able to supply an activity for eliminations continues to be the greater source of anxiety for improvement.
Then, the hindrances for sufficient of the flow of circulatory forces of blood supply and nerves to the lower extremities continue; so that there continues to be a tendency for the atrophy of the superficial circulation, as well as becoming static in the joints.
As we find, we would leave off the vibratory forces of the low electrical force with the Gold and other properties - for a time.
And we would begin more with a series of massages with a combination of other ingredients, as well as those that have been and are being administered.
Every other day, over the abdomen and through the groin, we would massage the body with an equal combination of Mutton Suet, Spirits of Turpentine and Spirits of Camphor; massaging only what the body will absorb.
The same days this is massaged over the abdomen and the frontal portion of the groin, we would also apply over the lumbar and sacral, as well as along the cerebrospinal system, a thorough massage with a combination of oils prepared in this manner:
To 2 ounces of Russian White Oil, add - in the order named:
On the days that this is NOT used on the spinal system, use it on the limbs and the knees - extending to the feet and ankles, soles of feet. Do not use on the limbs the days this is put on the spinal system.
Do these, as we find, for a period of thirty to sixty days - then we would give further instructions.
Well that there be the attempt to use the body, but do not by force break those tendencies for lesions in knees or in ankles; rather let the absorption and the massaging so stimulate the body as to make for the better conditions.
After the sixty days, we would again use the Solution, or low electrical charges, by recharging same again; using it with the Gold as well as a one percent Nitrate of Silver Solution. This, to be sure, would not be used in the same container from which the Gold is used, see?
But do these as indicated for the present.
Keep that attitude as is the oneness with the purpose of Creative Forces with thee.

(Q) In the exercises I am taking to break down adhesions at the knee on both legs, is there any danger that I may break down those adhesions faster than the new strength can develop?
(A) There's danger; hence the warnings, - do not force, but with these massages, then with the normal activity greater strength may be expected to come the faster.

BACKGROUND

5/29/38 Extract from friend [1598]'s reading:
(Q) Could any hope be offered through this channel for treatment of my friend, [1600] in ..., Florida, with his broken back, paralysis from the waist down?
(A) As we find, the channel offered through which help might come for this body would be through the applications of the Wet Cell Appliance carrying Gold; AND a gentle massage with Oils to carry the influence of the pulsations created by same through the lower limbs.
The attachments would be made in this manner:
The small or copper plate would be attached first, at the lumbar or lumbar axis; while the larger or nickel plate - through which the Gold Solution passes (in the proportions of two grains of Chloride of Gold to each ounce of Distilled Water) - would be attached last, over the umbilicus and lacteal duct plexus.
Attach the Appliance in this manner each day for thirty minutes, for twenty-six days. Then leave off for a period of two to three weeks. Then have another series of the electrical vibrations, recharging the Appliance; and continue in this manner for at least the third or fourth series.
During the two to three weeks rest period BETWEEN the applications - that is, before the next series is begun, we would use each evening the massage with the oils; but NOT during the periods when the Appliance is used, see?
For such massaging, use an equal combination of Tincture of Myrrh, Olive Oil and Compound Tincture of Benzoin. Heat the Oil to add the Myrrh and the Benzoin. Massage gently, all the body will absorb, along the cerebrospinal system, you see - DOWNWARD, always. This, of course, would only be used at the periods when the electrical applications are NOT being used, as indicated.
After the third or fourth series of these applications, we should find excellent results, provided there is KEPT the same attitude towards the use of the mechanical influences for the body as there is towards the applications of justice to the fellow man.
For, know: All influence and force of GOOD only arises from one source. All that exists then in the material world of GOOD, applied in that direction, is from that ONE SOURCE.
8/17/38 [1600]'s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce: I am about finishing the first period of Wet Cell Appliance carrying Gold treatment. May I ask the following questions:
1. In the equipment sent me the SMALL plate seems to be nickel and the LARGER one copper. Having been so adjudged by three persons, one an experienced worker in metals, we have used them in the manner directed, i.e. the larger one on the back the small on on navel. Is this correct?
2. It has been my habit for many months to exercise my legs with the aid of a helper, to walk with crutches some twenty minutes, or the same period with two helpers each holding one hand, to use my tricycle for about one hour - all in the morning each day. Is this satisfactory?
On the 21st of this month it will be THIRTY-FIVE MONTHS since I was smashed. Back broken in three places and paralyzed from the waist down. My legs from the knee down and my feet are practically helpless. The muscles of evacuation of both bladder and bowels are paralyzed and I have had every clearance of waste since I was smashed by artificial means. Catheter for bladder and enema for bowels.
So far as we can discern there is no change in my condition.
Unless advised by you to the contrary we shall write for another batch of the necessary ingredients enclosing payment therefore in some two weeks.
I am under very deep obligation to you for this equipment, as I am to Dr. [1598], an old and dear friend for bringing my case to your attention.

Dear Mr. Cayce:
Thanks for your note of the 26th inst. I have written to the Health Home Remedies Corporation at Norfolk for the materials to recharge for the next application of the wet cell appliance. I enclosed five dollars and asked that any amount above the cost of these materials should be help to my credit, as I expect to make the several periods of application of this wet cell appliance, as recommended.
Questions.
1. Should the gold solution be changed for each period of the wet cell application, as is the rest of the wet cell elements?
2. Is it alright to exercise my legs as I do rather vigorously, in the interim between the periods of wet cell application? I mean during the two weeks interim.
3. We find that solution you recommend for the massaging of my back bone, even when the flesh has taken up all of the application, leaves a stain that rubs off on the sheet. Would it be permissible after massage, to wash my back with hot water?
4. If there is any special matter of diet, or exercise, or prayer, or anything else that may aid this help YOU are giving me, please advise me, and I will do my best to comply.

Dear Mr. [1600]:
Thanks for yours of 31st - hope the H.H.R. Corp have taken care of your needs before this - Now as to your questions.
1st- Usually the gold solution is changed every 15 days the recharge for appliance about every thirty days.
2nd- yes sir, the exercise is most essential, and is fine to use it at all times, the theory is the gold adds strength to the nerve centers, and then to exercise would be to put that energy into activity.
3rd- Always well to bathe body off with weak soda solution, after the massage, use tepid water with same - proportion would be about tea spoon full of soda to quart of water.
4th- Unless special diet was recommended in first reading, then what you are doing would not be interfered with. As to special prayer, would be like telling the rose how to be beautiful, am sure you are keeping in line there, but know we are praying with and for you at all times.
Thank you for your help each day at the hour of trying to help - hope to be able to tell you how much this is helping - have really been surprised at the number of people who have joined in in this help - and at the variation in the feel of the experience - just wish could meet and talk with you, God bless you and keep you may His strength renew you, through Jesus the Christ - in whom all things are possible.

Dear Mr. Cayce:
Your welcome note of the 24th of October gladdened and helped me. It is good to pray twice each day for His help and power and blessing for YOU and for healing and blessing for all those who pray for you, and for all for whom YOU pray, and for all who pray for me. In this blessed Fellowship of prayer there is for me a comfort and peace, even as yet there be little change in my condition that can be discerned by our mortal eyes.
On this coming Friday I should begin the third treatment in the use of the Wet Cell Appliance. I have all the ingredients for this battery charge EXCEPT THE GOLD SOLUTION, for which I wrote to the Health Home Remedies Corporation nearly two weeks ago. Also in this letter I told them that the wire in the gold solution container had been consumed for the entire bend in this wire near the bottom of the container, and asked for a new wire if this was esteemed necessary. I am hoping to hear from them daily, and if not inconvenient would be glad if you had them telephoned in relation thereto.
I hear frequently from your good friend and mine Dr. [1598]. He is continuing his noble and effective work for His Kingdom in the colleges and universities where he began over FORTY FIVE years ago. He is one of the GREAT spiritual leaders for the Message of Jesus of our day.
I have thought that with this THIRD treatment with the Wet Cell Appliance I would conclude this treatment, unless YOU had other counsel and unless there was some visible change in my condition. I am in better heart and spirit - but the paralysis seems unchanged. Each of these treatments if for thirty minutes daily for twenty-six days, with three weeks intermission between treatments.
Should you be led to visit Florida this winter I hope you will call by an hour, a meal, or the night as might fit your plans. Dear Mr. Cayce:
Your very welcome and important letter of the 7th inst. received. The supplies sent for to the Health Home Remedies Corporation, have been received in good order.
I shall follow your suggestion and when this series of the use of the Wet Cell Appliance is concluded I shall "hold up say two or three months" and will be deeply grateful for you "to check again on the condition", and advise me of the next steps for my recovery.
As to whether this "hold up" should be for TWO or for THREE months I shall rely upon your counsel to determine. The present Wet Cell Appliance, daily treatment for thirty minutes each day for twenty-six consecutive days - ends on the 4th OF DECEMBER. I would like to know whether the massage of the back with the liniment as prescribed by you "for two or three weeks thereafter" should be continued after this application of the Wet Cell Appliance, as after the previous applications - and if so whether it should be continued for the period of the "hold up" in the Wet Cell Appliance, applications?
It will be a pleasure to remember you to Mr. [1598] as suggested when I next write to him, which will be in the next days. Both lower legs and feet are still helpless, but they are not entirely free from all sensation as they were for a long time since my accident. The paralysis of the muscles of evacuation of both bladder and bowels is unchanged. Constant drainage by catheter from the bladder, and by laxatives and enemas from the bowels. 2ND OF DECEMBER current, is now marked on my calendar as the day and 3:30 to 4:30 in the afternoon as the hour for further interrogation in my behalf. Thank you.
One question I write now - In the exercises I am taking to break down adhesions at the knee on both legs, is there any danger that I may break down those adhesions faster than the new strength can develop? At times it seems that my lower legs are more wobbly and that I can stand LESS well than when they were almost rigid with stiffness and unbroken adhesions? I try not to exercise so hard that my knees are too stiff and sore for continued work on my tricycle, and the morning walks? with crutches and a man on each side. I seem now to be more helpless the moment I am off balance when standing up, due to the wobbly condition at the knees.
I shall forward any other questions I may have say four days before the date set for the further inquiry.

2/09/39 Friend Dr. [1598]'s statement:
Here I wish to bear testimony to the gifts and power for diagnosis and healing of Edgar Cayce, but I state again, there is no infallibility in the work of any psychic that I know. Like all orthodox physicians and all psychics, Mr. Cayce fails in some cases and he makes mistakes which he is the first to confess. He would have to say in many cases, like the Apostle Paul, "Trophimus have I left at Miletus sick" [II Timothy, 4:20]. This is true of every living licensed physician or surgeon that I know and of every psychic without exception. I may cite the case of my friend, [1600], so well-known to audiences all over America during the last generation. I saw the tree on his beautiful estate at the ... from which he fell a distance of more than twenty feet, when a branch broke, breaking his back in three places.
