(Physical Suggestion)

EC: Yes, we have the body, Mrs. [1636].
Now as we find, there are specific disturbances that prevent the normal reactions through the physical forces of the body.
These, while affecting varied portions, are rather those that hinder the activities of the locomotion, and are preventing the normal functioning of the locomotion through the lower limbs; as well as causing a deflection of energies through other portions of the body.
Then, these are conditions as we find them with this body, Mrs. [1636] we are speaking of, present in this room:
FIRST, IN THE BLOOD SUPPLY, here we find there is the indication of a deflection in the circulation, which is indicated as being a part of the disturbance - through the lumbar and sacral and ileum plexus.
These hindrances to the circulation so slow the circulation through the lower limbs as to cause, in portions of the eliminating system, the lack of the drosses or poisons or used energies being eliminated properly.
Hence we have a deflection; rather than an abnormalcy we have a sympathetic reaction in the circulation between the heart, the liver and the lungs; and naturally at times, with this deflection, there comes disturbances in the circulation to the lower hepatics, or to the kidneys themselves.
These are then deflections, rather than causes; and the effects are a form of disturbance in the pressure, and an anemia of a nature exists in the circulation - that is, a deflection of the quantity or quality AND quantity of the white blood supply. It is more in the leucocyte and less in the lymph that flows through the lower portion, or from the 4th lumbar plexus.
IN THE NERVOUS SYSTEMS, here we find effects, as well as a portion of the cause of the disturbance.
Some time back there was a condition in which, through the pelvic organs and activities of the body, there was a pressure produced in the nervous system (cerebro-spinal); in the lumbar and sacral area.
This has gradually increased as the deflection has increased by the lack of the impulse for the nerve forces to carry the circulation through the locomotories and along those areas of the sciatics.
Thus we have rather a drawing through those portions under the knee, those portions along the upper part of the limbs, at times in the knees and even to the feet. It is as a stiffness, as a condition where the body APPEARS to have the effect of a portion of the limb going to sleep, as it were.
These are then the deflections and pressures in the cerebro-spinal nerve system.
That there is not as much pressure in the sympathetic as in the cerebro-spinal nerve system makes only for the preventing of these becoming much worse, or a combination of what might be termed an arthritic and a rheumatic condition in its effect.
But the deflection as we find is in the lumbar axis, or 4th lumbar through the sacral, and deflecting from the ileum plexus in the lower portion of the brush end of the cerebro-spinal system.
These deflections naturally cause conditions through the upper portion of the body that make for those conditions where there are upsettings when the body has a taxation through either worry or anxieties that may be produced by a physical or a mental reaction.
Yet these only produce the inclination for the lack of proper coordination in the upper portion of the cerebro-spinal and sympathetic systems.
That these react through the vagus center causes some of those disturbances with the body as related to the muscular forces in throat and head; when there is the feeling as of a little choking, or a little reaction that causes anxieties through that portion; quickening of the pulse under such conditions - ALL REFLEX!
AS TO THE ORGANS THEMSELVES OF THE BODY, brain forces and their reflexes are good.
Blood supply as related ONLY to those deflections as indicated shows a normal reaction.
Through the soft tissue of face, head, neck, throat, bronchi, lungs, larynx - all of these as we find ORGANICALLY react very well.
Only in those periods when there is a reflection, or a deflection by the pressure, do we find the pain that is produced in the locomotories and in those portions about the knee and under the knee; and in those centers or bursa between the feet, and to the upper muscular forces under the knee, or through the calf portion of the limbs. When we have the pressure, these cause - through the lymph circulation - a quickening, as has been indicated, in the upper portions of the body.
Such reactions also produce a lack of proper eliminations or activities through the reflex from the vagus center to the liver plexus. Yet the liver, lungs and heart, as indicated, are nominally of themselves very well.
The organs of assimilation and digestion and elimination find disturbances arising, principally from these reflex conditions.
IN MAKING THE APPLICATIONS AS WE FIND THAT WOULD ELIMINATE THE DISTURBANCES FROM THE BODY:
First, under the direction of such an one as Dr. Mary Miller, we would have corrections in the lower dorsal, throughout the lumbar and sacral and coccyx area. For the first two to three weeks these should be made ALMOST daily, or at least three times during a week.
Then have a rest period from same for a week. Then begin again, about three times a week.
When these treatments or adjustments are given, it would be well - to prevent the tendency for contraction in the muscular forces of the limbs, especially along the sciatic, under the knee and especially the calf portion of the limb - to massage the body with an equal combination of Olive Oil, Tincture of Myrrh and Compound Tincture of Benzoin. Heat the Olive Oil to add the Myrrh and Benzoin. Massage only what the body will absorb. This will stimulate the superficial activity to coordinate with the muscular reactions from the corrections in the cerebro-spinal system, in the lumbar and sacral plexus. Also it will make for a better circulation through these, which will also be stimulated by the use of the bodily electrical forces as we will give; that is:
Each day when ready to retire, use for at least thirty minutes to on hour, the Radio-Active Appliance - which will equalize the low electrical vibratory forces of the body. Circulate the attachments about the body in this manner:
1st day: The first attachment (and this anode should be marked so as to ALWAYS be attached first) would be to the right wrist, the last attachment to the left ankle.
2nd day: Make the first attachment to the left wrist, the last to the right ankle.
3rd day: The first would be attached to the left ankle, the last to the right wrist.
4th day: Make the first attachment to the right ankle, the last to the left wrist.
Thus a circle will have been made of the body. Then commence over again. Continue using in this manner from three or four such complete circles of the body, then leave off a few days - and then begin again.
In the diets: Here we will find that if the body will use the fruit juices and vegetable juices as activities for better eliminations, these are much better than cathartics.
However, we would occasionally - at least once a month - have a thorough colonic irrigation. This will aid in purifying the eliminations so that the body-reactions are near to normal, and also will make for a stimulation to the bodily functions so that we will have near to normal conditions.
Beware of fried foods of any kind. Beware of combinations of citrus fruit juices with cereals where milk is used, or quantities of starch; in other words, never have citrus fruits and starches at the same meal.
Use vegetables rather as the active principles for eliminations. When meats are used, if these are taken, preferably fish, fowl or lamb.
These as we find consistently, persistently applied, will bring near to normal forces for this body, [1636].
Ready for questions.
(Q) Does this condition cause the weak heart?
(A) As indicated, these pressures and the anxiety cause the disturbance which is reflex; and when there is the removal of the pressure, and the removal of the poisons, and the near to normal circulation brought about, we will find these conditions disappearing.
(Q) Is the body too fleshy?
(A) If the diets and activities are followed as we have indicated, we will find that it will assume near to NORMAL conditions in these directions for the body.
The body is a little fleshy, especially for the conditions in the LIMBS!
But these pressures removed from the lumbar and sacral axis, and their effect upon the nervous system and upon the circulation, the activities then of the body will be such as to assume near to normal weight - as we find.
(Q) Any special treatment for the arches?
(A) As indicated, if there will be the massage from the bursa (which are in the heel, you see) - the bones just under the knee, through the muscular forces, there will be the strengthening of the arches; with, of course, the application to the arches and to the feet themselves - but these need strengthening from those areas in the upper or fore portion of the lower limbs, see? and if these are applied in the manners indicated, we will find these conditions disappearing.
(Q) Does this cause the numbness in right hand, or dead feeling?
(A) This is reflex, as indicated, from the vagus center - which is incoordinant with the brachial plexus to the upper portion.
Hence when these pressures are removed from the LUMBAR and sacral axis, we would coordinate - to be sure - the brachial and the upper locomotories to the arms and upper part of the head and neck with same.
Do these and we will bring near to normal forces for this body.
We are through for the present.

BACKGROUND

6/22/38 Mrs. [1636]'s letter:
I feel greatly interested in this, knowing what you did for [528]. I feel sure something can be accomplished for me.
Do you wish me to make a list of all my complaints - Or is that unnecessary? It seems I'm above the average, for one of my age. I've been a student of Christian Science for 30 years, & have made lovely demonstrations, but this trouble with my legs [left leg for long time, now both - so weak I can hardly walk - am afraid of creeping paralysis] have continued to grow worse [Some say arthritis in light form but it's getting worse.], & a numbness in my right hand, the little finger & 3rd finger seems dead [for last 3-4 months].
If any thing else is wrong with me, I don't know it.
While I have been a student of C.S. for years - I do not hesitate to use other means when I can't work my problems thru C.S. To me, ALL SCIENCE IS OF GOD, & to God be all the glory, no matter what channel thru which it comes.
I am not a fanatical C.S. But I like that religion better than the old ideas.
But Jesus Christ is my ideal & I cling to Him, as our wayshower.

7/19/38 Mrs. [1636]'s ltr. to EC:
I didn't get to go in to see Dr. Mary Miller until yesterday. Found her very much like you described her. I like her very much. But she had me to get some HERBS to make herb tea to drink as a laxative, & that is not in your reading so I'm wondering, should I take it?? I'm sure it is harmless but I hesitate until I hear from you.
I can say this much for myself, when I go to an M.D. for advice I follow it. If I go to a C.S. practitioner, I follow what she says; in other words, I'm obedient. I believe in obedience.
Since I went to you for advice I want to follow your advice.
I can not begin my treatments for 3 weeks as Dr. Miller is leaving this morn. & won't be back for 3 weeks. She said I could begin rubbing with the olive oil, so I got that yesterday. I sit in the car & my daughter said she didn't know if they heated the olive oil or not, as she forgot to mention that to them. Now if they didn't, will that make any difference? do you think? They put the 3 ingredients together & it made a quart.
It's terribly "smellie" -
I'm enclosing a check for the electrical appliance, $18.50 as that is the one you have marked, & she said that was the one you wanted me [to] have. So I shall be all fixed when she come[s] back & I truly hope & pray I may get results. I want that condition moved out. I want that harmony reigns where seeming discord reigns at present. She (Miss Miller) seems to think she can have me perfect in a few months.

Have yours of 19th - enclosing check for the appliance. Will forward this to the Health Home Remedies Corp, who make the appliances. You will hear from them in few days am sure - tho each are made to order.
Glad you like Dr. Miller. Am sure you will find her most efficient and a very wonderful person. Sorry she had to be away just when you should get started with your treatments, and feel possibly that she is right for you to take the herbs now as she is not giving the treatments as yet, so would take them. Yes they must have heated the oil to add the other ingredient, if it mixes well. Yes, possibly is a bit smelly, hope tho, it is not unpleasant for you.
Am anxious for you to get the entire treatment, and be feeling better real soon, and feel that you will.
Do hope we may have the opportunity to continue our talk some time about the experiences - these are very assuring to me, of the continuity of life, as the helpfulness that comes from having the experience.

Good Morning!
Dear Mr. Cayce:
Thought it time I might run in on you for a little chat on paper. Am glad to say I started my treatment with Dr. Miller last Friday.
I went in again yesterday (Monday). She said Monday & Fridays, were my days for awhile.
She seems VERY busy - there's always a waiting list.
Of course, as yet, my legs show no improvement, but I suppose it will take some little time to get it out of my system, & and out of my consciousness. "Know ye not, that ye are the temple of the living God."
What a poor housekeeper I have been not to keep things in order as they should have been kept. That my temple (or body) should be so run down.
Still I must not complain, I have so much to be grateful for. I must go rejoicing every step of the way. I've always been a sort of a "Pollyanna" - trying to see the bright side of every thing. Last night I came to the conclusion that little battery we got was DEAD.
I have treated it according to directions, gave it a sun bath etc, but I don't think there is any power in it. I tested it out, & I think it is dead. Now, I went right on as tho it was alive - I wanted to be obedient & I remembered the fellow that was told to dip seven times - so, as I understand that, it was obedience that did the work, not the water, & I'm obedient to my task, dead or alive. But Mrs. [...] said I think its AWFULLY [AWFUL] to pay $18.50 for nothing.
Dr. Miller gives me electricity when she gets thru with her massaging. So maybe I'm getting what I need any way. However I'll keep up the good work, & keep using my "smelly" rub, keep hoping & praying.
I shall close for this time as my leg seems to be terribly numb (or dumb) & if I get up & shift around that will help it to wake up. So excuse a poor letter this time will try to do better next - maybe I'll be in a different mood. Sometimes I can write, yes, I even write poetry, then again I can't write anything.

Dear Mrs. [1636]:
Found yours of the 15th here when came in today from a visit to Ky. - was there only a day so didn't have time to call and see if Mr. and Mrs. [...] were at home. Spent most of the time that could spare with Sisters in Nashville but think feel a bit rested.
Glad to know you have gotten started with your treatments, and feel sure you will soon be feeling a whole lot better - of course will take a little time - will not come all at once. You, like my self, are beginning to feel the wear on using our bodies so much - they are temporal - and we have built in our consciousness they will last just so long - and as MIND is the builder so they go. But you keep up the use of the little appliance - of course it has no Juice or life in it - not until it is attached to your body does it work - it is an equalizer but works - and there is nothing to get old if you keep the little plates clean before attaching to body. The vibration from body will make a very thin film on the little plate - of the thousand or more that have been recommended - have not known a single person who did not get results from their use if they used them properly. And know you know how to use yours - so keep that up by all means. Believe it is the "Polly Anna" disposition Mrs. [...] that gets the most out of life - for after all it is what we put into life that makes it worthwhile - for little can we take away - in fact nothing but that we have given away - Good lives on ever - and cannot be destroyed. Just hope you will be inspired to write me a lovely poem some time. Trust you are feeling a lot better ere this - for when we start doing something about troubles - they resist - and usually make us feel miserable about them - then Right conquers and we are our real selves again. Good Morning!
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I must apologize for my long delay in answering your letter. Now I suppose I'm forgiven I'll proceed. Miss Miller asked me yesterday if I didn't think I should have another physical reading. I haven't missed but one treatment since I started in. In some ways I feel better, but I can't get UP & DOWN the steps any better, & my fingers are still numb, & I feel it in my leg yet, (that numbness). So, as I haven't had any vacation on my treatments as yet, I thot I might skip a week with her, & have another reading. I was looking over my reading last night & I see you speak of a "rest period for a week, then begin again".
You see Miss Miller is only in her N. Y. office Mon. & Frid., will make an appointment for Wed. But the rest of her time is in Jersey. Therefore I've only taken two treatments a week. I really think that is all I could stand, because they are VERY hard on me, actually painful but I've been enduring it, because I had faith in her ability.
I don't think she would do any thing that would injure me in any way, & I've been told the Chiropractic treatments are very rough any way. If it takes that to knock it out I'm going to go on.
But will rest a week if you think it O.K. & will give you that $10.00 for another reading. Guess you'll think I'm SCOTCH. I'm not, but of course my daughter pays for all this, & I try to be economical for her sake. As we are not millionaires. She takes me into the City so I won't have subway steps to climb, which I appreciate very much.
Now when I said I'd send you that $10.00 I think I read - the other readings, after the first were $10.00. If I misunderstood, you may correct me. I'm not trying to run your affairs, or set your prices. However you may let me know if you think I should have another reading. I've been using my electric appliance as you suggested, & in using the olive oil rub, I've only been applying it to my knees, & on the numb part of my leg. I haven't been putting it ALL OVER my body. Is that the way you intended? Miss Miller said touch up the knees lightly -
So you let me hear from you soon as you can, & if it is right for me to skip a week now, I shall have another reading. If you think I should. I do my work for you at morning between 6 & 7 o'clock. I do all my mental work before I get up at morn. As I do most of my reading in bed from 5 'til 9, I never get up till 8:30 or 9 unless I'm going into the City.
You see I do my work early & then leave the field to God, & I simply realize the truth as I contact things or people or circumstances without any extra reading. I have practiced that for so long its hard to get out of the habit. But I think it's just as well that way, don't you? When I realize you are God's perfect Idea - that God is being manifested thru His own idea - that's all I can do any way - & that's where I keep you in my consciousness, at all times - God's perfect Idea.
By working my own way, or as I understand it, I'm sure you are benefited thru the hours of your reading. God is EVER present. Spirit is NEVER late. The constructive work is done, all MUST be well.

Dear Mrs. [1636]:
Thank you for yours of 11th - always glad to hear from you. Refreshing to hear from you - whether it is a complaint or not, good to hear from you.
Think Dr. Miller is correct - possibly is time for a check reading if I remember correctly; owing to the Dr. being away, you did not get started on you treatments for some time after your reading - and then we had part here and there - that may have had something to do with your not having better results as yet. At least will be best to check up on it and see.
But after the rest period and you have begun to take the treatments again - a rest for a week then - and after two or three treatments of the second series we will make the appointment for the check reading - and hope will get all that stiffness out of the way. Scotch or no scotch it is not that we wish to make any bill for any one - but to get the best that may be had for all. For had such rather have you have half dozen readings and get results, than have you pay for one and no results.
Yes - check readings have been listed as ten - that is right.
Think you have been using the rub correctly. No need for more possibly than the affected places - but will see what the information says next time about all of these when we have the appointment. Wll be well to make a list of questions - your self - also have the Dr. do so, too. Thank you for the help you give those seeking through this channel - is a lovely time to be remembered - and am sure great good is coming and will come from this cooperation.
