This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 13th day of July, 1938, in accordance with request made by the mother - Mrs. [460], new Associate Membership in the Association for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., sponsored and requested by her brother, Mr. [257], Active Member of the Association.

Present: Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Born June 24, 1938, at 4:45 A. M. [See Par. 1 below], in Room 302, Lutheran Hospital, 144th and Convent Ave., New York City.

TEXT

1. EC: (In going back to birth date - " - 4:20 - " - )
2. Yes, we have the records of that entity now known as or termed [1638].
3. In giving the interpretations of the records of this entity, know that these are urges. As to what the reactions will be will depend upon the environment and the training as the entity begins to reason or to apply the urges as will be seen are latent within self.
4. Among the first as may be found - a great determination; and using even in its early developing mental forces subtle conditions to attain or to have that it materially desires.
5. Then in attempting to correct or to direct this, if allowed to grow to the extent that it would become a physical, mental and material detriment, then great precautions - and ALL of the learning of the parents - will be necessary to meet these conditions!
6. DO NOT break the will, but reason - and give a cause. Not merely "Because I say so." Not merely "Because I know best." But explain WHY you know best, HOW you know best, and what will be the results.
7. Even before there is ordinarily thought or understood that the speech to the entity is important, as it develops, as a means of expression, it is necessary to subconsciously, unconsciously, direct the entity into those directions in which there will be required of the entity, as well as given to the entity, the reasons for things pertaining to physical activities; as to diet, as to clothing even, as well as to the environs in which the entity will seek its expression.
8. For innately, and actively, the entity is a leader - as may be indicated from its determinations, and its having or creating or bringing about those activities in which its mental and material desires are to be attained.
9. There will be then the better training from the beginning of the entity in activities in which there are government regulations, the abilities for activities in governing groups or bodies, or those things in which there are the associations of those who may be termed the capitalists and those who labor.
10. Hence in the law, or in the field of such activities, may the entity be the more easily directed.
11. An outlet in those things pertaining to athletics will be another field, or an activity that arises from the innate as well as the material experiences that have builded the emotions and thus allow an outlet of the emotions innate and as will manifest in the experiences of this entity.
12. Precautions must be taken respecting especially those conditions with the lungs; else we may find such disturbances later in the experience - or near the twenty-ninth year - becoming as a part of hindrances to the full manifestations of the entity's experiences in this particular sojourn.
13. From the Mercurian sojourn do we find the determination, as well as high mental abilities. All of these must be taken into consideration as being the very nature of the entity.
14. While we will find a great deal of those influences from Venus, as in the desire for affection, - little will be given by the entity, save to accomplish or to reach its ends.
15. The same will apply in the experience of the entity in lording things as gifts from those who are able or capable; but the inclination will be to induce others to act in those capacities and not the action in self.
16. These will be those OUTSTANDING inclinations.
17. Knowing these, then there should be the training, the suggestions to keep all such equally balanced. For there must be perfect coordination in body, in mind, in purpose, in spirit; if there are to be the greater abilities, the greater accomplishments, mentally, materially, physically, in the experience of an entity.
18. As to the appearances of the entity in the earth, here we find quite a varied experience.
19. Before this we find the entity was among those in the periods known as the American Revolution.
20. The entity was rather in the capacity of one who aided those in authority in many fields of service, especially about Philadelphia and New York; in aiding those to induce others to become contributors of finance to the Cause itself.
21. Hence we find the entity was not only affiliated and associated with those who were in authority as to the law, as to the leadership, but as to the states' activity - and of individuals, during those experiences.
22. The name then was Gero Gerhemeim; and in the experience the entity gained, for there were the determinations and purposes for a general activity that was for the betterment of the entire or the all, and the giving of self in service.
23. Then the abilities to meet and to deal with individuals of all stations of life will be natural, and innately natural, in the experience of this entity in the present; if there is kept an equal balance, as indicated, through suggestions to the entity, and in the training and in the development for a purpose - and why.
24. The abilities to make and accumulate moneys will, of course, arise also from the experiences during that particular sojourn.
25. Before that we find the entity was in the land known as the Grecian, when there were those who made a particular study of the artistic temperaments; that of law as related to the early development of the Roman experience.
26. All of these became a part of the entity's activity.
27. Hence innately and manifestedly we may find in the present experience the abilities particularly in phases of dealings with those things having to do with labor and capital - as termed in the present.
28. The name then was Cassium, and the entity gained and lost - through those activities in which there was the turning of much of the associations with the Romans into channels through which self became lordly, rather than the particular activities for which the entity was given credit - when the actions should have been accredited to those who were in association with and close in connection with the entity, rather than self alone.
29. In the application from those experiences, good or bad may come.
30. Hence the directions as indicated in the training and the giving of reasons for development and activity, and the necessity for a great deal of spiritual development - but practical; not rote nor merely writ, but PRACTICAL application of virtue for Virtue's sake, love for Love's sake, and that like begets like in its dealings and activities with others.
31. Before that we find the entity was in the lands when there was the rebuilding of the walls in the Holy City, with the return of the children of promise to the reestablishing of worship according to the dictates of their conscience.
32. Hence we will find that liberty, freedom, and conditions in which people in position will be INNATELY - as to the entity - those who should be in authority. Hence the necessity for those trainings and those directions of the entity in the formative years; in that each individual must stand according to that he has applied - and not according to class, nor heredity. In other words, there should be the instilling within the entity that merely being in power, or power alone, does not always make right.
33. In that experience we find the entity's dealings were with the peoples roundabout, during the periods of the activities of Nehemiah and Ezra. These were questioned oft by those in authority within the walls, as well as by the king - and recalled by him.
34. Yet as we find, the greater portion of the entity's development during that sojourn was in being able to meet the various groups and various activities upon their own grounds.
35. Hence the necessity in the present for giving a reason, and for the answering of the WHY as to every question that may arise in the entity's experience through the formative mental development.
36. Before that we find the entity was in the Egyptian land, during the periods of the turmoils and strifes; during those periods when there were rebellions rising within the land.
37. The entity was among those who were of the Natives in that Rebellion, coming very close to the Native who rose in rebellion.
38. As to the activities, it might be said that the entity was one who directed rather the policies and the distributing of what ye would call today the propaganda against the King as well as the Priest and those of the King's own household. All of these were a part of the activities of the entity.
39. With the return of the Priest, we find the entity then - as Ipse-Ba - became rather one who was an outcast for the time being; returning with the Aide to the Priest in the periods of exile.
40. Hence we find the latter portion of the entity's experience was a development, being given into a better coordination owing to the activities of those from the Atlantean land, as these appealed to the entity (the Atlanteans) through the natural REASONING abilities of the entity.
41. Hence the last estate was better than many of the periods through the sojourns in the earth.
42. Then again there may be given warnings, that there must be kept an even tenor or balance.
43. As to the abilities, these will depend much upon the training - BETWEEN the second and third and the fourteenth year, and between the sixteenth and the twenty-first year.
44. Then the warnings would be, physically, all along the teen years, as to colds or congestion - especially as related to the pulmonary system or the lungs.
45. As to the abilities to be accomplished, these are in leadership and law - as pertaining especially to those conditions between labor and capital.

47. (Q) Has the entity ever been associated with his present mother, Mrs. [460]? If so, where and how?
    (A) In the Egyptian period, as well as in the Grecian.
48. (Q) With his father, Mr. [...].
    (A) In the American Revolution, as well as in the Egyptian period.
49. (Q) What can he do to make his life worth while to humanity and to his family?
    (A) As indicated, this will depend upon the manner of application. And the manner of application will depend upon the training through the formative years.

1. 7/38 Mother's ltr. to EC: "Needless to tell you how thrilled we were to receive the reading and since that time we have read and re-read it. I can't say I am particularly looking forward to the task set for me but I suppose there is a universal reason for everything and I'll do the best I can to carry it out. If the physical tendencies outlined can be kept under control everything else can but be attempted with patience alone..."
2. 5/05/40 Sun. A.M. [1638] was with his father out walking in the garden - his father missed him 2 minutes and when they found him he had fallen in the bay and was drowned.
3. 5/11/40 EC's ltr.: "Just talked with [257] and heard about the fearful calamity that has come your way. My love and sympathy to each of you..."
4. 6/01/40 Mother's ltr. to EC: "[...] and I want to thank you for your lovely letter to us in the loss of our [1638] boy. Such thought and messages have helped us to keep our wits these terrible hours when all we can do is wonder why oh, why such things happen. So many times during our baby's life we had said over and over again that God had surely blessed us with what we considered a perfect little boy - perhaps we weren't worthy of him..."
