Background]:
"The Federal Council of Churches of Christ in America is
promoting a similar scheme of prayer but it does not mention
at all the spiritual element which entered into the founding
of the Big Ben Silent Minute Observance. I do not know if
you can give publicity to this movement in any way but it
strikes me as a valuable one."

THE DEDICATED MINUTE
What it is
The Silent or Dedicated Minute is the period before the
Nine O'clock news each evening during which Big Ben chimes
the hour. Usually the B.B.C. allow a short pause before and
after the chimes have sounded.
What is is for
To give all who love freedom and justice and mercy a daily
opportunity to unite in silent prayer and thought for one
minute in every twenty-four hours.
To release spiritual power for the service of mankind.
To establish communion each evening between man and his
Creator.
What it can do
The Silent Minute, if intelligently observed by millions of
reverent people all over the world, will open a door through
which the Divine Light shall enter our hearts and minds.
What we can do
We can spread the news of this Observance far and wide. We
can ourselves keep the minute regularly, holding ourselves
still as channels for the flow of God's Light and Power for
the benefit of everyman.
Where it is being observed
In Great Britain and in many parts of the British
Commonwealth of Nations, in America and in various places
throughout the occupied territories of Europe.
How many are keeping it
By June, 1941, it was estimated that over 5,000,000 people
at home and overseas were observing the Silent Minute
regularly, and their number continues to grow. Will
you join in and ask others to do the same?
Conclusion
In Unity is Strength. Let us therefore unite in keeping
the Silent Minute when the voice of Big Ben is heard at nine
o'clock each evening. By this means the days of tribulation
will be shortened and the victorious peace of the powers of
Light be assured.

8/04/42 Mr. [

Mr. Hugh Lynn Cayce
Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Hugh Lynn,
I thank you for all the literature connected with your father
and his work, and I distribute it at times wherever I feel
it will do good and promote interest in what you all are
doing. I have been much interested in the little book "The
Discoverer of God" [A SEARCH FOR GOD - Book I]. It has a
great deal of very good stuff in it. Personally I do not
take much stock in the Yoga doctrines of breathing first
through one nostril and then another! I think it most
important to breathe deep and long, for lungs are certainly
given to us to use in re-oxygenating our physical being.
I also think to expect physical reactions to periodic
manifestation tends to introspection & morbidity, - which
is bad.
I wish that you might have quoted more of Michael's
communications. Can you tell me who this Michael is?
Can it be the Archangel? If so your father is certainly
associating with the "Higher-ups" - way beyond the rest
of us!! I congratulate him!
I suppose the capital letters "P R" at the bottom of some
of the pages signifies psychic reading though I do not see
it stated anywhere in your book what the initials do stand
for.
Wishing you all success, and hoping to hear from you in
answer to my questions at your convenience, I am, with
Cordial Regards to you all,
Faithfully yours, [

8/10/42 HLC's letter to Mr. [
1646]:
..., N.J.
Dear Mr. [
1646]:
Thank you for your letter of August 4th. We will always
appreciate any distribution which you can make of our
literature.
You raised several rather interesting questions in your
letter. Personally, I do not believe that the section on
Meditation in the book "A Search For God", may be considered
a Yoga approach to this practice. From all I can gather,
the system, as described, is rather an early Christian method
similar to that practiced by the Essenes. As is carefully
pointed out in the article, all of the suggestions for
preparing for meditation are to be taken only as suggestions.
Each individual must find that method which best suits him.
The readings emphasize this point. There are a great many
people who know of and are interested in breathing as it
pertains to meditation. This explains, I think, the
inclusion of it in this paper. I am quite certain that steps
in spiritual development can not be set down as a formula
for everyone to use. Free will is too an important factor.
Sign posts along the way and an explanation of the laws
under which the whole plan operates are important.
Physical reactions come as a natural result in thorough
meditation, and as is indicated, are not to be considered
ends in themselves. I agree with you that any emphasis on
such physical reaction is bad. Perhaps this point should
be stressed more in our article.
I am afraid I can not give you very much information
regarding Michael. The total number of possible quotations
would not run more than half dozen.
P.R. does stand for Psychic Reading. You will find this
listed on Page 134 in the index in glossary of terms.
Thank you very much for your interest.
Sincerely yours, Hugh Lynn Cayce

3/17/48 Letter to HLC: "I am afraid I rather lost interest
in your work with the passing of your father. I felt the
kingpin was gone and you would be trading on past
accomplishment rather than being engaged in active service.
Maybe I am wrong. Is there no one who has succeeded him -
like Elisha did Elijah?"
3/26/48 HLC's letter to Mr. [
1646]:
Dear Mr. [
1646]:
I have taken the liberty of mailing you some of our current
literature in answer to your note of the 17th. I hope you
will take the time to read carefully the copy of my talk on
"A Disciple Of Christ In Our Day", in the enclosed Bulletin.
It explains some of my ideas regarding the importance of our
work at the present time. [12/47 Bulletin]
I am sure you can appreciate the fact that my father's
activities have been greatly extended in many ways since his
passing to other planes of consciousness. I wish it were
possible for you to spend some time here with us at our
Congress, June 20th through 26th, as I think it would
give you a completely new idea of our activities.
Let us hear from you again.
Sincerely, Hugh Lynn Cayce [HLC/dm]
