Mr. Edgar Cayce
Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce,
I have delayed writing you because I wanted to find out more
about this hydrotherapy problem. There is no hydrotherapist
here but there is a Finnish Steam Bath and Swedish Massage
place. The man who runs it did not know what a
hydrotherapist was (neither do I) but he claimed he could
give the treatment prescribed. Do you think this advisable?
I have ordered the Radio Active Machine and the Calcios and
as soon as they arrive, shall start my treatment.
There are several questions I would like to ask: In the
reading you say at about the 3rd or fourth cycle of treatment
I should be more normal etc. - do you mean the 3rd or 4th
cycle of the radio therapy treatments or of the hydrotherapy
treatments - if so, just how long? I'm a little hazy as to
figuring it out. And would it be out of line with my diet
to have a heavy dessert at the vegetable meal - at noon?
I am used to having a heavy dessert with the light noon meal
and fruit with the heavier evening meal. This makes no
difference to me but I just wanted to follow the
instructions as closely as possible.
Also - at the end of this period of treatments, you spoke
of giving further instructions - does that mean another
reading?
I thought my reading was quite a remarkable diagnosis and I
shall try my best to follow the instructions carefully as
that is the only way to give it a fair trial. I have every
faith in it being the right thing to do. There were a few
ailments mot mentioned but perhaps they will be cured by
the treatment.
Mrs. [
1678] was also more than pleased to hear of the
remarkable diagnosis of both Miss [
1655] and I and knows
if you could be shown the way to diagnose our cases that
the treatment will be successful - as "He has many ways."
My family would like to know if this Radio-Active Machine
can be used by the person, himself and if there is any danger
in using it of shock etc?
Thanking you for the very kind interest you have shown, I am,
Very sincerely yours, (Mrs.) [
1654]
8/25/38 EC's ltr. to Mrs. [
1654]:
Dear Mrs. [
1654]
Thank you for yours of 22nd and hope can help you out in
getting some problems straightened out. Hydrotherapy is a
term used for those who apply water as the basis of their
treatment. If you haven't one there - then am sure the
Swedish Massager can give you the proper treatment - and am
sure you will find they can. The cycle - you will notice
it is suggested you take a series of treatments and then rest
for a little period. That is to get the reaction. Then
another series of treatments and then another rest period.
After the third series of treatments, it is suggested that
you have a check reading; yes, another reading - check R
[reading] as you will notice from the date - is half price of
the first. This should tell you what improvement you have
made, and where as it were - to go from there.
No, try the heavy dessert and if you find it doesn't bother
then keep it up. The information usually gives or suggests
the heavy meal in the evening.
Thank you for your comment on the information. Will say
this, Mrs. [
1654], have never known a case in the 38 years
have been giving the readings where help or cure was
promised - If the person did what was suggested - what was
promised came - rather a large statement, but true. Of
course that means the body did just what the reading
suggested - no more - no less.
Have an appointment for Mrs. [
1678]. Sincerely hope to be
of a service. Yes, His ways, are wondrous ways, and all
praise to HIM for all the good that has and does come to
others through me - for of myself am nothing.
The radio-active only uses the charge of the body. You will
not feel one thing with its use except to sleep unusually
well and when you use it if you will use that period to
meditate - Feel sure you will have some lovely experiences.
There is no electricity in the Appliance - it is only the
charge of the body that makes it active at all -
Thank you and let us hear from you as you get started on
your treatment. Glad to try and answer any questions. With
all good wishes.
Sincerely [signed] Edgar Cayce

Dear Mr. Cayce,
I neglected to ask you two more questions in my last letter
and hope it won't put you to too much trouble to answer them.
For the last month I have been taking thyroid extract under
dr.'s orders - and he wants me to continue it for awhile.
It is not for any known deficiency but to see if it helps
an incomplete sexual life. Will this interfere with the
treatment you have recommended in the reading?
For the past two years I have had intestinal flu, plain flu
etc on the average of every three weeks - with resultant
sinus trouble which almost never left me. This summer
early - the doctors gave me cold shots and I did not have
cold or flu until now. The doctor wishes to have me take
another series of shots now. I realize that I will have
to follow one person's advice but I don't want to continue
these flu and colds and would like your advice as to this
matter.
Thanking you for your kindness, I am
Yours sincerely,
9/01/38 EC's ltr. to Mrs. [
1654]:
Dear Mrs. [
1654]
Have yours of the 26th, thank you for same. My suggestion
would be, give one or the other a fair trial. If you feel
the taking of the extract has brought satisfactory results
- keep up. If not then give the information a fair trial
leaving off all those and doing just as the information has
suggested. Believe you will get better results.
You will know within yourself which you wish to undertake -
let "your conscious be your guide."
Believe sincerely if you will follow the suggestions you
will not need take the shots - nor the extract.
Hoping your choice will be for the best - for you to have
help from the troublesome symptoms is the wish of all, and
am sure your choice will be for the best.
When you get started, let's check up on you again,
and see how you are doing. That is, if you take only
the suggestions.
With all good wishes
Sincerely [signed] Edgar Cayce

Dear Mr. Cayce,
I am writing to tell you that since starting the treatment
I have improved in MANY different ways. I noticed a change
almost immediately. Of course, there have been days or
periods of several days duration when I have not felt well
- but on the whole there have been a number of changes for
the better - and I am greatly encouraged. I feel that
through God I owe you and Mrs. [
1678] (who is making possible
this treatment for both Miss [
1655] and myself) a great debt
and I know you will be blessed for helping this to come to
pass.
I have had several "beginnings" of colds and sinus infections
which have miraculously been cured in not more than three
days. However right now I have a bad head cold & aches that
go with it but I sort of lay that to the fact that this is
the period which I do not take the hydrotherapy treatments
or the radio-active appliance treatments. It just happened
they both came at the same time as I had started the steam
bath & massage treatments before the radio-active appliance
had come.
For the past two weeks I have not felt as well as before -
the reading told me there would be those periods. However
I am wondering if the radio-active appliance is working as
well. The first two or three days I used it I THOUGHT I
could feel a faint stinging or prickly sensation in my hand
or foot. I do not feel anything now and do not awake as
refreshed as I did the first week. I am writing to the
Health Home Remedies Corporation about it too. I thought
at first it was just reaction or one of those periods of
old disturbances reoccurring and waited for improvement.
I have awakened with a headache every morning & many of my
old aches and pains (in milder form) for several weeks. I
do not speak of the present as I know of course that this
cold is to blame.
I should also like to know if I should continue with the
Calcios - I have almost finished taking one jar.
I want to thank you a great deal for answering my many
questions before. I do not see how you can find the time
for letters to all your many correspondents. It is very kind
of you to take such an interest in each patient.
Miss [
1655] has been up the past few days and feels better
though she still has some pain in her side. She had felt
so greatly improved and I know she will again.
Very sincerely yours, (Mrs.) [
1654]
10/10/38 EC's ltr. to Mrs. [
1654]:
Dear Mrs. [
1654]
Thank you for yours of the 6th. Am glad to know you feel
you have been on the improve, for that is the purpose, of
course, of it all. Let's just hope you can keep on in that
direction until you are your normal self again.
Is very lovely of Mrs. [
1678] and am sure you both are most
happy about the matter if you can get results. Certainly
fine that you have been able to check the colds - and lets
hope we may be able to eradicate them entirely.
In the use of the radio-active - are you particular about
making the application of same as suggest in the directions;
that is do you use the same plate each time to attach to body
first - and circulate this about the body - first to right
wrist - then other to left ankle - next the same first plate
to left wrist - and other to right ankle - the next time the
first plate to left ankle and last to right wrist - the next
to right ankle and left wrist - ten where you began - right
wrist and left ankle.
You see the entire theory of the appliance is wrather
unique - there is no charge in appliance - until attached to
body - but when attached - with the elements in appliance and
the effect of cold from ice - there is produced a current
from the body that builds up in appliance - and acts as an
equalizer; hence is necessary after beginning its use that
the same connection be attached to body first - but in
extremities opposite from the one just used - hope haven't
made this complicated for you - but feel sure you will see
by application just what am trying to say.
No - any thing that will help - if misused will have a
detrimental effect - am sure. Should think you should have
at least have one more - jar of the Calcios - as there should
be sufficient of its effect to help you through the severe
weather of a winter.
Am only too glad to try and answer your questions Mrs. [
1654]
- have dedicated my life to try and be of a service to my
fellow man - and can I do so in my feeble way am happy to do
so - hope have made things plainer for you - if haven't
please don't hesitate to ask me - with kindest regards to
you and yours and please remember me to Miss [
1655].
1/04/39 Miss [
1655]'s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce -
Thank you very much for your - as usual - very kind letter
of Dec. 17 which I am sorry not to have acknowledged before.
I hope that you and all your family had a very happy
Christmas. I need scarcely say that you have all my good
wishes for the New Year.
Mrs. [
1654] and I have both tried to hear your son's
broadcast, so far without success. But we will keep trying
as we are much interested.
Thank you for enclosing the little pamphlet about you and
your work. I enjoyed it very much.
I'm very glad to report that I am feeling very well for me
and getting better all the time. I had a little trouble with
my side just after Christmas but that is all gone now.
However, Mrs. [
1654] has been quite ill for nearly a month
now. I am writing this as much for her as for myself. She
feels that her January 10 check reading should be cancelled
for the time being. We finally decided that I should tell
you the circumstances and let you make the decision about the
reading. She has a severe infection in her eye which the
doctors here say is combined iritis and carotitis. It causes
a great deal of pain in her head and neck, and she has a lot
of nausea, but I believe that is chiefly from the tremendous
amount of Medicine she takes. The principal medicine they
have given her is sulfanilamide, which makes her feel dopey
and muddled. That is the chief reason why she wants to
postpone the reading: she feels that she wouldn't be able
at the present time to list the questions she wants to ask
and she would rather wait until her head is clearer. I am
writing for her as she is quite unable to use her eyes. She
was without sight in the affected eye (the left) for a time,
but she can now see a little.
I am sorry to inflict such a very long letter on you. But
we both are very anxious to have your advice.
You have done so much for me that I am already more deeply
grateful than I can say. It is my most earnest prayer that
Mrs. [
1654] may be restored to health. She has had so much
real suffering and been always so patient and uncomplaining.
She was better just before this infection developed, than she
had been for a long time.
Thank you for all your kindness. My prayers are with you
daily.
Sincerely, [
1655]
