8/16/38 Remarks by husband after Reading [1660-1]: Been
in hospital since July 5th. Was first treated at home by
Dr. Corpening [Cora Z. Corpening, M.D.], for gastrointestinal
trouble; no results. Then went to Dr. Taylor [Waller L.
Taylor, M.D.], who suggested - after treating her that she
go to the hospital. Now under Dr. Martin [W. B. Martin,
M.D.?] has had several blood transfusions - they are giving
her sulfamilhide injections - say she has strep in blood
which they can't locate, but the injections will keep it
from growing. She is extremely weak, depressed. He, the
husband, asked Dr. Martin about taking her to Johns-Hopkins;
he, Dr. Martin, said he thought she was getting everything
right now that they could give her there, but he would help
to get her there if the family wanted to try it. They don't
offer anything else than what they're doing - she is to have
another transfusion tomorrow.
