This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 14th day of February, 1941, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [1688], Associate Member of the Ass'n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

TEXT

1. GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces, giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the entity in the present, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:
2. EC: (In going back over years from the present - " - '38 - changes in attitudes - mental developments - '36 - '31 - yes - '30 - " etc., on back to birth date.)
3. Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [1688]. An Atlantean!
4. In giving the interpretations of the records as we find them here, and in making them applicable in the experience today, know that they are given with the desire and purpose that this be a helpful experience for the entity.
5. Yet each entity must come to the cognizance that the state of consciousness or awareness in which one finds self is that best for the entity in the present, that it may make itself one with the universal consciousness.
6. For, He has not willed that any soul perish. Thus continuously, today, now, He presents ever a way in which each soul may find its relationships to Creative Forces and thus fulfil the purpose for which it entered this present material experience.
7. Know that the entity's records here are recorded on time and space, and that in patience they may be interpreted by self, thus minimizing the faults and magnifying the virtues become one with Him.
8. In interpreting those experiences of an entity that indicate an activity through the Atlantean period, much would present itself that might appear contradictory.
9. For, all such entities entering the material experience at this time are very definite individual entities and will be found to be either the non-entities or those in the positions of power, of might. Thus much is required of all such in the present.
10. This is not indicated that fear of any form may be a part of the experience, but rather that such entities as this may be aware - and the more aware - of their abilities to influence the affairs and conditions in the earth in this time of stress and disturbance, and thus make others more and more aware that each soul must turn to Him - who is the way, the truth, the light.
11. As to urges latent and manifested, - we find that the entity here is rather sensitive, being not only an Atlantean but the Uranian.
12. The seal of the entity might be described as a wheel, but upon a background that is square. In the hub would be written - The Son. There would be four full spokes to the rim from this center, bearing these - that have grown at times dim:
13. First, on that from the left toward the center - Patience.
14. Then from the center toward the right - Persistence.
15. Upright toward the top - Consistency.
16. Direct toward the bottom - Kindness.
17. Fill in the others, not full spokes, that have been loosened or broken, with the opposites of those things indicated that are the stamens of character now.
18. While the urges astrologically do not bear so much in the present upon the entity's awareness or consciousness, they may become more and more applicable as there is the unfolding of the awareness in relationships to the now, that as has been and may be.
19. We find in Uranus the extremes. This is indicated in how easily the body - not the soul, but the body and the mental forces - becomes discouraged. Yet with encouragement, patience, longsuffering, brotherly love, the entity blossoms as does the rose with the morning dew.
20. This fact should be a lesson - as is the seal to the entity - of the needs for those virtues being manifested, and yet the making of them practical.
21. For, if ye would be forgiven ye must first forgive. If ye would have friends, show thyself friendly to others. If ye would have love, be thou lovely to others. These are unchangeable laws. And as the material universe is governed by and rests upon laws, so must each soul, each entity magnify same in the daily experiences; not merely the knowledge that such exists, but - existing - make them a part of thy daily life, even as He. For He is thy safeguard, thy present help in time of trouble, thy GLORY - as He should be - in those moments of joys, gladness, happiness. Know that He is nigh.
22. In Uranus as combined with Neptune we find abilities pertaining to detail; in any material activity, then, that requires concentrated effort of detail, - as a writer, as a statistician, as a copy reader, as any material activity that requires closeness of purpose. These offer channels through which the entity may find greater expression.
23. Then, for the greater mental, physical and spiritual development of the entity in the present, it is necessary that such activities be classed in not routine as routine - but rather budget the time.
24. Oft the entity has not taken the time to play. For, it has oft attempted to carry such concentrated activities all the way. The true Uranian will go from the sublime to the ridiculous, materially speaking. Do this rather often. The change is helpful, mentally; and the Mind is the Builder, both in spiritual and in material things, as well as being that which keeps the balance and a coordination between the two selves.
25. As to the appearances in the earth, not all may be given here, but sufficient of those as would indicate the characteristics. However, these may appear to be contradictory; but as the entity arouses itself and analyzes its purposes and its hopes, it finds these as characteristics of the self.
26. Before this, then, the entity was in the land of the present nativity, during those early periods of activity in what is now Jamestown and Williamsburg, during the early settlings quite a variation from the early settlings when considered materially, but mentally these are the outgrowth one of the other.
27. The entity was not in that early period of the FIRST settlers, then, but in the period when there were the activities for establishing schools, and the first activities in what is now known as William and Mary.
28. And this may be found as a part of a record there, - that the entity made when gifts were given by the settlers and the landowners for the establishing of that as a permanent place.
29. The entity then was one who made a record or kept track of such gifts, - in the name Marie Somme. The entity gained in the periods of enthusiastic reaction for permanent activities; lost when grudges or hurts caused hard things to be said among those of that early period.
30. The record is on Page one seventy-three, Volume nine (P. 173, Vol. 9).
31. Before that the entity was in the holy land, or promised land; during those periods when there was the establishing of the church as a permanent place of activity.
32. Many have not oft considered such, as this entity has (which may be proof in self), - as to how the church took the place of the synagogues or the temple worship.
33. The entity was among the young of that group who heard Peter on the day of Pentecost. Later, when Peter established the church in Antioch; the entity was present when there were those activities in Laodicea, and the entity saw these scattered - with the early persecutions by the Romans who were sent to replace the centurion in Antioch. Thus the entity became a follower of Paul and Barnabas into Laodicea, and became an active influence there; being the lady superior or mother of the church there (as would be called today), growing under the activities of the various disputes as arose with the bishops as well as the members of what later was called the Presbytery of that particular group of individuals.
34. The name then was Josida. Throughout the experience the entity gained, yet suffered at times through those periods of turmoils among the leaders, - as the disputes with Lucius and Paul, the disputes there of Paul, Barnabas and Mark. All of these became as portions of the records kept by the entity. Thus the entity was kept, as it were, between the fires of disputation.
35. In the present application of self respecting the urges that arise from that sojourn, remember those influences that are to FILL the spokes of thy wheel, and that are to reach to the outward activity among thy fellow men.
36. Before that the entity was in the Persian and Arabian land, during those periods of activity when there was the building of the "city in the hills and the plains."
37. The entity then was among those brought to that city for healing, from the Indian land. Under those directions and activities the entity became a helper in the city in the hills and plains; becoming as a nurse in a hospital or sanitarium (as would be called today); or a recuperating home for the various degrees of development, instruction and activity for those brought to that place of refuge as the entity knew it.
38. Though much commercial activity of the east and the west went on also in the city, such never became a part of the entity's experience.
39. Thus in the present the entity's activities as to spiritual things and as to material things are oft too far apart.
40. Before that the entity was in the Atlantean land, during those periods when there were the warnings as to destructive forces being brought about.
41. The entity was among the children of the Law of One, or the adherents to those influences which have ever been the Creative Force in the development and in the regeneration of man from his various stages of advancement and retardment in materiality.
42. The entity attempted to aid in stemming the tide of disputations. Yet, because of the evil things brought about by the sons of Belial, the entity suffered throughout that period in body, in disappointments, in separations from those of the own peoples.
43. Hence in the present there is the appearance at times of indifference to those conditions relating to the social or material relationships with marital ties. For, the entity renounced much then that it is still renouncing; especially as to its faith in man as a man.
44. In the experience the entity gained, and yet built for itself hardships that were attempted to be eliminated in the Palestine as well as Virginian land. In the present experience such activities find themselves manifesting the most in the mental self.
45. Thus we find the entity in the present separating itself, as it were; the body must do this, the mind must not allow that to function, the spiritual is a thing apart.
46. Know that the body, the mind and the soul are one; even as the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are one.
47. Then, that consistency, that persistency is necessary in the experience of the entity today. In patience, in faith, in kindness, in longsuffering, in forgiveness, there will come the awakenings that make material burdens easy, the social and material relationships pleasant, and the spiritual and mental selves arousing that best within self; becoming ALL things unto all conditions that ye may magnify His name the more.
48. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, then, - that to which it may attain, and how:
49. First, study to show thyself approved unto THY Maker. Who, What is thy Maker to thee?
50. In that activity, know that it must be consistent, persistent; manifesting patience, gentleness and kindness. These are the beauties of life; in every form they are presented they bloom the more.
51. Keep self from condemnation of others, and - most - of self.
52. The fields of activity should be in all detail work, or writing. Ye may write a book if you will! of those things especially pertaining to historical characters and their reaction to spiritual things. In such activities the entity may find the greater harmony, the greater peace.
53. And because the way seems long, faint not. For, He leadeth all the way.
54. Ready for questions.
55. (Q) Am I in the place I should work, or should I seek a change?
    (A) Ye may use the place in which you work to develop to the greater abilities in other fields. For the present, remain in the present associations.
56. (Q) Is there any advancement in my present work?
    (A) There is plenty of advancement in any work! whether you are shining shoes or administering law, or what! There's ALWAYS advancement if that in which ye labor materially is given the creative forces in thy activity with same.
57. (Q) Will I marry in this experience?
    (A) Will have the opportunity, - and such are to be the choices of the self. [GD's note: She was married in the fall of 1945, to a widower with children. However, she continued her office job.]
58. (Q) What should be my hobby?
    (A) Writing!
59. (Q) Do I have healing qualities in my hands?
    (A) Ye have healing qualities if these are expressed in those ways as were administered through the Persian experience.
60. (Q) What particular jewelry should I wear, and what colors?
    (A) The Persian colors, or the mixed colors; not mixed qualities but mixed colors. As to jewelry, the plainer - not much filigree.
61. (Q) What is the meaning of the dream I had Wednesday night, Jan. 8th, in which I saw myself dead and embalmed?
    (A) The period of awakening, of arousing self to the greater opportunities and abilities that are before thee.
    Keep the faith.

3. 5/08/45 Miss [1688]'s letter to Miss Cerminara:
   Dear Miss Cerminara,
   This is in reply to your letter concerning my life reading.
   I regret having to confess that I have not checked the records at William and Mary, although, I have intended to for a long while. It has been so I have not been able to make the trip, what with the gas shortage and working. I have thought seriously of writing and asking them if there was some way of obtaining the information from them, but on second thought, thought they might consider this an irregular request and decided against it.
   My sister and I plan to go there during my vacation sometime during the summer, most likely July. I will certainly let you know what I discover if you will let me know where you will be at that time.
   I would consider it a great pleasure if you would meet me some day. My lunch hour is from 12:00 o'clock to 1:00. That which appeared in the bulletin is probably all you would consider interesting, although, the entire reading is most interesting to me and a valuable possession. Let me know in advance if you decide to meet me in order that I may have my reading with me.

   Gentlemen:
   This is in reply to your request of July 8 [See under 2791-1 Reports].
   Shortly after I had obtained my life reading I wrote the Library of the College of William and Mary and asked that they search Volume 9 Page 173 for any information that it might give concerning Marie Somme. I stated I supposed this must mean that this information would be in the history of the college. They wrote back stating there was no volume 9 in the history of the college and could offer no suggestions.
   I intended getting another "Life Reading" asking for more information but so many things happened and then Mr. Cayce passed away so consequently I had no more information.
   I deeply regret not being able to help you as I would like to have had this information also. It has just not been convenient to make the trip to the college and then, too, I would not have known where to start looking.
