9/22/38 Mother's letter: "Thank you for your two recent
letters & the Life Rdg. [
1678-2] - I will take up any
questions concerning the latter, another time, but right now,
I want to tell you that on Monday, Sept. 28th, [
1691] will
be at ... School, ..., Mich. He will be in class until 10:45
& then will have a study period of an hour, during which
time he will try to be cooperative. He told me to ask the
following questions for you to have in mind - a way to clear
up acne - a way to put on weight (not sleeping & plenty of
sleep SHOULD help that some!) Then, he has a sensitization
- I don't know whether it should be called 'Hay fever' or
not - but it starts in the early Spring & lasts until frost
- & is a very annoying sort of thing to have to contend
with & I believe keeps him in a rather nervous, irritated
condition - my osteopath says that it could be cleared up
by adjustments, but so far, [
1691] has not accepted that
statement, apparently - but he might be glad to do so,
coming from another source in which he has confidence -
if it comes thru to you as a right procedure.
"Another thing that bothers us, that his teeth are decaying
from imperfect enamel around the necks - a blood test shows
plenty of calcium in his system - but he is now taking
calcium wafers hoping that they will help. He doesn't eat
much fresh fruit or vegetables - or even many cooked ones -
I try to get him to & to have things that he can enjoy, but
his taste runs more to meat, potatoes or gravy - I mention
all these things because I am so eager to see [
1691] in a
normal, happy state of mind & body. He was deeply interested
in spiritual matters until about two or three years ago, &
now refuses everything of that nature as having no proof,
but I feel sure that it is the turbulent adolescent period
with all the questionings & moodiness - & the influence of
those who prefer NOT to believe in anything that would
control what SEEMS to them to be their freedom - moral
questionings, etc. loom large right now, & the whys &
wherefores, & pros & cons - It is a difficult age in this
particular period with so much license & freedom isn't it?
"Must mail this, but will be writing again soon, & pray that
you will be clearly guided to help this boy."
