TEXT

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions which may be submitted, as I ask them:
2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [1763].
3. Now as we find, disturbing conditions in the greater measure have to do with the sensory forces and conditions which have produced this, as well as the effect these disturbances have upon the body in the present.
4. These then are conditions as we find them with this body, [1763].
5. There are the indications that in times back there was a condition in which the temperatures caused a great deal of inflammation through the soft tissue of the head and throat. And without there being proper attention given during the healing time, this involved especially the soft tissue in face, in upper palate, and especially in the Eustachian tubes.
6. This adherence caused a disturbance which produced first a mild prolapsus in the Eustachian tubes, which has gradually increased. This continued condition caused a catarrhal effect, which - through its intermingling with the circulation for digestive and assimilating forces - has produced disturbances in the metabolism of the system; reducing the flow through the coordinating forces of the lymph and the superficial circulation in lungs, chest, head, throat and the nasal passages.
7. These naturally produce, then, the accumulations of poisons and mucous through the alimentary canal. These in turn hinder the eliminations through those areas; and thus the blood supply has and does become reinfected through the poisons; thus causing muscular forces that are taut in tendons and in the extremities of the body.
8. These bring about, then, a great deal of that inclination for a form of anemia.
9. As we find, these have been of long standing. There has been produced a great deal of static condition through the soft tissue of the face and the antrum and those conditions through the nasal passages; yet as we find these may be materially aided, though they may not be brought back to normal hearing, nor under the stress or age reduced so that the poisons and toxic forces of the body may not at times cause some disturbances.
10. But there can be arrested those conditions with the hearing, and at least an eight to ten percent increase in the ability of hearing.
11. These as we find are conditions and that as may be accomplished with this body, [1763].
12. In making applications, then:
13. First we would give that there be the use of the hydrotherapy methods, in periods of several weeks (several here meaning three) and then a rest period from same, and then again. These would include the sweats; preferably for this body not raising same too high, but sufficient to cause a good perspiration. Not so much as to be weakening for the body, but to set up a respiratory or perspiratory circulation, increasing the respiratory activity.
14. About once every ten days, or three times during the first period and twice during the second period, - or the first period about once each week, - we would have the high colonics. These would not be too severe, but as to make for a cleansing of the colon and allowing for better assimilation by the removal of toxic forces and poisons from the body.
15. Have a massage especially, and some adjustments, through the upper dorsal and throughout the cervical area; especially around the ear and the temple; a gentle massage.
16. The rest period should be for two weeks.
17. Then when the second series of hydrotherapy treatments would be begun, we would have these at least two or three times each week (not the colonics that often, however; but the massage and adjustments, etc.).
18. When there is the beginning of the hydrotherapy treatments, we would begin also with the low electrical vibrations, - or high vibrations but low voltage, as of static electricity, - as from the Wet Cell Appliance. Both plates would be the same size, and one would be attached to the 2nd dorsal center, the other to the 1st and 2nd cervical center; 2nd dorsal center and 1st and 2nd cervical center, see? The copper plate would be attached to the dorsal center, the nickel to the 1st and 2nd cervical; for thirty minutes. This would be attached about three times a week for thirty treatments - for at least thirty treatments. This would be preferably done at the time of the hydrotherapy treatment.
19. Be precautious as to the diet, which should be kept more alkaline. Or, beware of fried foods at any time. No raw apples, though other fruits in their season may be taken consistently. No white bread. Use whole wheat as an aid in assisting elimination.
20. Take two Codiron tablets at whatever meal is the heavier meal during the day, whether morning, noon or night. Whether these are varied from day to day or not, take same WITH the meal, - that is, at the same time; not afterwards nor before, but DURING the meal! These would be taken consistently, AFTER the first of the hydrotherapy treatments.
21. These will bring for the body the better forces and influences.
22. Ready for questions.
23. (Q) To whom would you suggest that the body go for the hydrotherapy treatments?
    (A) Backman or Reilly.
24. (Q) Is the gradual loss of hearing due to these conditions?
    (A) As indicated, this the beginning - and has been a gradual growth.
Do these things - we will cleanse the system, we will purify the blood stream, raising a better metabolism and aiding the hearing and the rest of the sensory system at least eight or ten percent improvement.
25. We are through for the present.

(GD's note at time of reading:
See extra sheet [which was enclosed] of directions for hydrotherapist. Codiron is manufactured by The Lawrence Laboratories, Chicago, Ill. It sells for $1 a bottle of 60 tablets, $3 a bottle of 250 tablets.)

BACKGROUND

1. 12/15/38 Background questions submitted via HLC:
"When about 14 a severe attack of diphtheria was followed by scarlet fever, measles and discharge from the ears.
For many years have had chronic catarrh & slight sinus trouble with impaired hearing which is slowly increasing.
Is the gradual loss of hearing due to the above conditions?
Metabolism is low. Is my condition due to reduced oxidation and the resulting excessive production of acid wastes? I take cold easily."

REPORTS

1. 12/26/38 letter from L. H. Backman, 40 W. 55th St., to EC: "I was delighted to have the opportunity of meeting you when you were in New York, and hope I shall have the pleasure of seeing you again in the very near future. If there is any possibility this summer, I shall certainly try to come down to Virginia Beach.
"Am enclosing herewith a check for $5.00 towards the library that you are trying to establish, and wishing you great success in the wonderful work for the enlightenment and advancement along psychic knowledge..."
2. 12/29/38 letter from EC to Dr. Backman: "Thank you for yours of 26th and for your contribution to the 'safety fund'. I appreciated the opportunity to meet you and sincerely hope some time in the near future we may have chance to talk at some length - would be fine if you will come to Va. Beach. Think you will find it a nice place, and we will be mighty glad to have you. Thanking you again.
"And with all good wishes for a New Year."
