5/26/38 HLC's ltr. to EC: "...You will be amused I know -
at the following. All my ideas of diet went by the board so
to speak. I went to Miss [
1612]'s to discuss readings. She
asked me to stay and meet [
1767] who was coming up to bridge
about 3. He is interested in having a reading for a girl,
[
1769], in Washington who is paralyzed. I talked to him
about it and think it will be arranged. He has literature
and is going to get her cooperation.
But about the diet. [
1767] had not eaten breakfast or lunch
at 3 o'clock. He is 75, an active vigorous man. He sat down
and ate 2 fried eggs, a half plate of fried potatoes and
drank with it a couple of inches of scotch whiskey.
Seventy-five - active, head of an American industry -
salads, etc. - well - !..."
12/12/38 EC's letter to Miss [
1612]: "It was very lovely of
you to have Hugh Lynn and I for lunch... I enjoyed meeting
your Mother and wish that I might have had the chance to talk
with her more. Of course it was fine to meet Mr. [
1767]. I
enjoyed talking with him very much."
