10/21/41 [
1770]'s letter to EC:
Dear Edgar:-
How the time has flown - since your letter of a MONTH ago!!
It's disgraceful I know - but you know too - that you have
been in my thoughts especially at 12:30 P.M. Pacific time -
(3:30 P.M. your time). If I am in the apartment alone at
that hour, I usually say or call out loud - "Edgar Cayce,
Virginia Beach Virginia" and visualize you in your new
office. Then send out thanks for your gift etc. etc. When I
can - I "tune in," verbally - for I realize the power of the
"spoken word".
[
1771] and I both saw - "Here Comes Mr. Jordan" and loved it.
It was a great success in this city. Didn't you feel that
Claude Rains was PERFECT as Mr. Jordan? It was beautifully
photographed. Thank the Lord - that such pictures are coming
before the public.
[
2247] was with us for ten days. She came by bus from N.Y -
via Seattle, to Los Angeles, Calif. Poor darling - the pull
back to California is very strong - and there is a ray of
hope, that she may do some teaching in Hollywood.
She slept on the bus - and arrived here - exhausted and
hungry. Needless to say - we endeavored to remedy both
conditions.
The opera season has come & gone, we attended ALL
performances - three in a row. [
1771] was thrilled - and
looked darling in her evening clothes. Her Auntie was
justly proud of her. The Seattle symphony concerts opened
last evening - and we were there! It's food for the soul -
listening to the symphonies of the great masters. We both
feel the same about music.
We both know that Hugh Lynn and his bride will find greater
opportunities for growth and service together. Man or woman
should not live alone - I'm beginning to feel that very
strongly. Now I wonder why? Guess I will have to have a
Reading on the same.
Whether [
1771] or myself - have made any male acquaintances -
we are always with a group of unattached ladies. Something
wrong - somewhere - don't you think?
When Nancy Lansdale made your Archetype [See
294-204] - did
she send you some type written sheets explaining the symbols
- which were in it? I have those which were sent to us - and
if you would like to study them - will send them on to you.
Miss [
288]'s Reading [
288-50, Aura Chart] was not unlike
Nancy's. It would be interesting to let Nancy red it - and
to make the chart as indicated. She is now living at 235
East 49th Street, New York City, N.Y.
Ariel Taylor - my numerologist teacher - sent me her address.
Mrs. Nancy Lansdale, 235 East 49th St. N.Y. City, N.Y.
In my archetype the signs of the zodiac were not mentioned,
but there is surely a similarity about them.
One really must have some knowledge of symbolism - to
understand ones own Archetype - tho Nancy claims - they are a
benefit to us - whether we have that knowledge or not.
Do you wish to have [
288-50] Reading returned to you?
Who is painting her archetype for her?
Last week I saw a sign "Theosophy" - on a house, and some day
soon, I'm going to go in, perhaps I may meet a kindred soul.
Speaking of your robe [for giving the readings]. Some how I
feel the same as you do, the cover all, or one piece suit
does not appeal to either one of us.
I see you in a blue robe - not light blue, nor a mid night
blue - but a BLUE which has a real blue coloring. White
would be lovely too - but think of the laundering of same. A
robe somewhat similar in style which many ministers use. I
can appreciate your wishes or desires to wear something like
that - you are indeed a CHANNEL at each Reading period, for
God's great gift of prophecy - bringing hope - and comfort
and understanding to some seeking soul.
God grant that your work may continue.
Our love to you and your dear family. You are all an
inspiration and a comfort to me - across the miles. Thanks
again for the snapshot.
Bye for now - & forgive my long silence. [
1770]
10/24/41 EC's letter to [
1770]:
Dear [
1770]:
Thank you for yours of the 21st - have wanted to write you
for two or three weeks, but have been so busy and then the
few days off for the wedding - and it was a very pretty home
wedding. Just the families there. They were married at the
young ladies home in Stovall, N.C. While she is not pretty
face think she has one of the loveliest disposition have ever
known. Gertrude and I both are very fond of her, they have
gotten back and have an apartment at the Beach Home [Beachome
Apts.], think they plan to go to house keeping the 1st of the
year.
H. L. is back keeping regular office hours now. Comes to his
office here in the Office Bldg. each morning. Doesn't even
take lunch with us as yet but goes to and fro, the Beach Home
is at 28th and we are on 14th.
Now about what I wished to write you especially. Glad you
mentioned your tuning in, so let me tell you what happened
about three weeks ago [
9/16/41].
One morning was feeling pretty bad while had gotten up had
been lying down most of the morning. Came near time for the
reading. Had told Gertrude and Miss Gladys would have to put
it off, but was lying here on couch where give the readings
and felt some one had just tuned in - of course thought of
you the first one - got up to look at clock to see what time
it was, then lay back down and begun to plan in my mind the
excuse would write - think was feeling a bit sorry for
myself, when I heard the "VOICE" as haven't heard since was a
very young man it said "GET UP get ready and give the
reading. Don't you want to give any more readings? GET UP
get ready". Well did not have to be told again, immediately
was healed haven't felt badly since. Gave the reading
[
2015-8] too. Wasn't that nice - so you see how much you
mean to me, more than you ever guess.
Glad you saw "Here comes Mr. Jordan". Thought each character
was well chosen. Claude Raines was especially good, but each
character just suited the part - was well directed in every
way.
How is Miss [
2247] - do hope everything works out for her.
Am sure you both were glad to see her and help her out at
that time. Lovely of you.
Am sure you both enjoyed the Opera season, we have so little
of such here about, and only when am in N.Y. do have the
privilege of hearing such and that is so seldom, that the
most we have is from the Radio when the season is on in N.Y.
have it each Saturday afternoon.
As you haven't met any Gentlemen friends there - would
imagine such would be needed to round out life to its
fullest. O am sure [
1771] looked lovely and you are justly
proud of her. She is such a dear sweet girl.
What is her name - a friend of yours who live in ..., that
you brought down for a reading [Mrs. [
1921]]. Wrote some
time ago asking for you address - said she had something to
send you - she was sure you would like to have. Did you hear
from her, gave her your address.
Yes - sent Nancy the reading on the Archi-type [Archetype]
have heard from her since the reading calls that given here
Aura-charts. No have never seen an explanation of an
Archetype. Am sure one would have to know much about
Symbology to interpret. One of the ladies here last Congress
as you noticed in Congress paper talked on Symbology. I
thought it a very fine talk.
No - think Miss [
288] made many copies of her reading
[
288-50] - and there is no need of returning same. A local
artist has drawn her chart and it is very pretty - a Miss
Wynne [Esther Wynne] did it.
Think have just about what wish now in the robe. Just
received it yesterday. My Sister [Annie Cayce] in Nashville,
Tenn. made it for me. Wore this particular suit the first
time this morning - have some three or more kinds just now -
but think will have the real one made like this - possibly
when get it fixed will have a snap made in it to let you see
what it is like, and if it meets your approval.
Thanks again for everything. All send love to each of you.
Saw [
1861] and [
2072] last Wed. evening . Had dinner with
them in Norfolk, they come there for treatments.
With love [signed] Edgar
11/06/41 [
1770]'s letter to EC:
Dear Edgar:-
It's a lovely sunny day here in Seattle - one of those rare
days! We really should be out in the woods. A few weeks ago
- we did take an all day hike - up a mountain. It was an
easy climb - thru lovely woods - over mountain streams - over
granite rock - which had been ground into shale by the
elements - water falls - tumbling from the heights above gave
us a lovely feeling of being free and gay. Above us the fog
was blowing in - and it made wonderful scenic effects - as it
waved back & forth against the sun. Once the tall dark firs
made a perfect etching upon the sun's surface. It's
difficult to describe the scene - but I presume the fog & the
trees were between us & the sun. It was a rare picture - and
we appreciated its ethereal beauty.
We walked about eight miles - after driving seventy miles to
the scene of ACTION - & seventy in return. You should have
seen [
1771] & I - after our return to the apartment. We were
lying on the floor with our feet on the couch - listening to
the Helen Hayes Radio programme - fine "mountaineers", we!!
Do you give Physical or Life readings at the 3:30 period?
That is 12:30 noon on the west coast - and I must confess
that at your morning reading 10:30 period - (7:30 A.M.
Pacific time) I'm usually in the land of nod - or in the arms
of Morpheus.
Wish I HAD been the fellow who helped that morning (when you
were feeling under par) - but it must have been some one
else.
Miss [
2247] - is again in Hollywood - and I'm afraid she will
be unable to do much teaching of Rhythm. Poor dear - she has
such a strong mind of her own.
I notice that Mr. Sugrue has gone to Florida - does that mean
that he is no longer a cripple? That he has recovered his
health? How wonderful if such is the case.
Shall be looking forward to the "book". Enjoyed his remarks
at the Congress - but I must confess that some parts of "Of
Such is the Kingdom", surprised me greatly. He writes
beautifully - but personally I see no reason for such stark
realities. A few sentences could depict a character for us -
without telling us their every thought. Were you pleased
with it?
I'm going to send you the report which Nancy Lansdale sent us
- must buy a large envelope for it - so be on the look out.
Mrs. [
1921] - was the friend who attended the Congress with
me, and who had a Reading. She comes from ...
We have ceased corresponding for two years now.
She has never written to me - but I have "a feeling", that
what she had to send to me - was an, "announcement", probably
of her marriage to [
1821]. Her Reading - suggested that he
should marry her - but he was very much against it - at that
time. Did she sign her letter to you as Mrs. [...] - or was
she then Mrs. [...]? Did you give her the [...]'s address?
Perhaps she has decided AGAINST sending the news. She is
very impulsive & emotional.
There was a triangle you know. Mr. [
1821] - she - & poor
little me!!
Do ask [
2072] to write to us. She owes me a letter. Is
[
1861] responding to the treatments - & is she gaining in
weight? She seemed so very thin - in the snapshots.
I'm weighing less than I have for the last twenty years.
Down to 126 lbs. - and I've lost NINETEEN INCHES - here -
there - and all over.
Am enclosing a snap of our new Chrysler - Royal Coupe - it's
such a lovely shade of green. [
1771] looks like a Scotch
lassie - with her Scotch hat.
She keeps busy - is gaining confidence in her selling
ability. A week ago her sales were $1,600. Not bad for a
new comer in the field.
Our greetings to you & your dear loved ones. I'll be with
you in spirit - as it's now 12:30 P.M. Bye for now -
Love to all, [
1770]
11/08/41 EC's letter to [
1770]:
Dear [
1770]:
Thanks for yours of the 6th - and as am leaving for N.Y.
early in the morning for two weeks think had better reply at
once, always does me so much good when have a letter from
you, gives me the sort of encouragement that I seem to need.
Thank you more than know how to say. That trip must have
been lovely. Your description is lovely, most makes one feel
as if they were seeing it all and would like to literally
experience it just as you have. The pictures too are good.
You both look fine thanks for them. Certainly a good looking
car you have there and the sky - clouds and the sound are all
just lovely.
You both must have been good and tired and ready for some
good music, to lull you to perfect rhythm with everything.
It was for the afternoon period, when had the experience
[
9/16/41, 2015-8]. We have both life and physical at various
periods. That special period was for check physical and has
proven to be a most helpful one, a cure for a child who
stuttered or stammered, and has gotten alright now. Yes
still you were the one that helped that day. Seem to have
that vibration that I associate with you.
Now, hours have gone by - people came in and had to stay
operations, so now what will I do. Time for bed and after if
am to get off by seven on the ferry.
Sorry tho for Miss [
2247] - but there are some things no one
can do for us. We have to make our own decisions - if others
make them for us - well they are not our own. Do hope
everything works out for her.
No, Mr. Sugrue isn't walking as yet, but he is coming, as
H. L. took care of him when he was here. He is enough better
now that his wife can practically do all needed other than
the Dr. does that comes in each day, and Fla. was and is a
better climate for him for winter. But he is able to get
into the water now and do some swimming, Oh he is coming.
Felt much the same way about the book - tho he has the real
flow of words even there.
Would like to see the report from Nancy Lansdale - think will
see her while in N.Y. but she rarely says anything about her
work.
Gosh - can't say whether she [Mrs. [
1921]] wrote under the
name of [...] or not. Will try and look it up when get back
- but would never find it tonight am afraid but she said she
had recently found something that belonged to you, and she
wished to send it to you - so maybe it was him - I don't know
as she didn't give any inkling as to what it was. But you
haven't heard from her - she seemed anxious when she wrote
and wrote very sweetly.
Yes, gave her the address. haven't heard from her since.
Should have her letter at hand - but haven't for thought from
what she said she would write immediately.
[
2072] is looking much better - tho she is not a heavy weight
as yet - yes [
1861] is looking much better and doing better
with work and most of all with vision. Won't see them now
for several weeks - usually see them when they come down
every other Wednesday - last Wed. had out of town people here
and couldn't get away.
Have you been on the reducing diet? Don't get too thin but
you do look lovely in this snapshot, and not too thin am sure
you must feel fine tho from the looks and all, that is what
counts after all.
[
1771] looks lovely too - should think she would gain
confidence. With such success in her sales, would be lovely
if she worked on Commission at that rate. Give her our our
love. H. L. and Sally will go up with us this time for a few
days. We will be at Mrs. Robert Emmet, 1 Grace Church St.,
Rye, N.Y. Find it much nicer to be near and not right in
N.Y.
Let us hear from you.
With love to each of you and thanks for the snaps,
[signed] Edgar Cayce
11/16/41 (Sunday) [
1770]'s letter to EC:
My dear Edgar:-
We are listening to the Carnegie Hall - Symphony - wish you
were able to be in the audience in person. Perhaps you are -
but I have a feeling many meetings have been arranged for you
during your two weeks stay in N.Y. - and that, as usual, your
own personal pleasures - will be put aside - for others. The
Mozart Concerto - with Mr. Schnabel as piano soloist - is
perfectly lovely.
Should you see Nancy Lansdale, give her my ..., address, and
ask her to write to me. I haven't heard from her in two
years. Say "Hello", to [
1468] - I presume she is still
living at the ...
Thought of you Friday evening and know that you had a
successful meeting.
No word from Mrs. [
1921] - or maybe - Mrs. [...] by now.
Have a feeling she came across my picture (framed) and that
might be what she referred to. [
1821] has had it many years
- and IF they are married, it's natural that she would like
to dispose of it. Can't think of anything else - but, being
the OTHER woman in the case, I'm naturally curious.
I have been in August on a nine day diet - and on a five day
diet - but am thru now. Am careful - and if I gain a pound
or two - why I just cut out all starches - fats & sugars -
for a day or two. Have also been attending a Reducing Studio
- where I walk - on an electric, "Health Walker" - ride on an
"Electric Horse", use the Electric Foot Oscillator & electric
vibratory massage. Feel revitalized & full of pep - when I
leave the studio. Go about twice a week. Usually go - after
I've spent two or three hours at the R. Cross - making
bandages - that's a sitting occupation - so I enjoy the
exercises - all the more. Sure am getting streamlined. Must
have a check up reading soon. Haven't been taking any Adiron
for over a couple of months - guess I better watch out - tho
I really feel splendid.
Are you celebrating Thanksgiving on Nov. 20th Democratic - or
the 27th Republican? We are invited to join the Frink family
on the 20th. Don't get over tired in N.Y. & remember us to
dear Gertrude & Gladys. Best to you, from us both. [
1770]
12/02/41 EC's letter to [
1770]:
Dear [
1770]:
Thank you for yours of the 16th - we just got back to the
Beach Sunday night. Instead of two weeks we were gone three,
but took a few days out to go to N.H. for Thanksgiving on the
20th. A lovely trip a beautiful place [Mrs. Robt. Emmet's
HIGH MOWING FARM, Wilton, New Hampshire]. Don't think had
ever hoped to see such an ideal place for recreation and
work. An old homestead of Revolutionary days not modernized
too excessively to destroy the loveliness of the old days,
but enough to make it more livable for the person of today.
But all the old quaintness of the early days in Amer., then
walk through a door and be Italy - another and in France,
another and Greece and Crete. Goodness me what a lovely
place.
Had a very nice meeting on the 14th thanks to you - am sure
had at least 20 or more come to me and tell me that you had
been the cause of their coming so continue to have you to
thank for much. Certainly was lovely of you to let so many
know about the meeting - just hope they were not too badly
disappointed at the meeting - but suppose you will hear. And
any criticism that may help will surely be gratefully
received so let me know what they say.
Didn't have chance to listen to any too much music while
there - but enjoyed the visit to the School where Mrs. Emmit
gives her time and self. Really enjoyed seeing her work with
the young people - and they after all are the hope of the
world.
Will enjoy the Metropolitan tho of Saturdays now. Met
several teachers of various arts, some most interesting
people. One day a Frenchman that couldn't even speak English
that afternoon a Greek who could speak but not too well. The
next day a Belgian lady very fine and the afternoon a real
Russian Countess. What a lovely person. She trains people
for the stage. Their names wouldn't even dare guess now all
those interested in LIFE readings and seemed well please with
what they were told.
No didn't see Nancy Lansdale this time - thanks for the
papers on the Archetypes will read carefully and return to
you.
No, [
1486] was at the meeting, but left before had chance to
speak to her - guess am in the doghouse for something with
her. Missed that too.
Ah Ha - well some how don't think that is it at all - the
picture - with Mrs. [
1921] but may be far wrong - you
possibly know ladies minds much better than I. And maybe
just exactly right, but at least didn't get any such from her
letter. But have heard no more.
Just don't over do that diet or the reducing habit - have
seen some sad experiences from such - but am sure you know
enough not to do as many do that undertake such. To me you
were just lovely when last saw you - now you must be all
young again. Well have felt so well since my experience.
Have to pinch myself to see if it is really me - still think
it was you who tuned in and aroused me - now if had had the
dream have had so often [
294-62, Par. 7-A] - and saw you in
it would be very sure.
Well my correspondence has piled up so am days behind - but
wanted you to know you were certainly with me in thought of
you on the evening in N.Y. and will be looking to hear from
you again soon. All well here.
Love and best wishes to and [
1771]. [signed] Edgar
12/04/41 (12:45 P.M. noon) [
1770]'s letter to EC:
Dear Edgar:-
Somehow you are on my mind today - & I feel disturbed. In
tuning in - a feeling of anxiety or something else came over
me. Have you been well since your return from New York - or
was your vital force expended upon others - thus depleting
your own strength? I have a very strong feeling - that such
is the case.
Did you receive the letter I sent to you - at Rye, N.Y. -
also the writings of Nancy Lansdal - which I sent to
Virginia Beach? Did you see Nancy - & [
1468] while in N.Y.?
You must tell me about your N.Y. trip.
[
1771] celebrated her 24th birthday on Dec. 1st. - she says -
she'll soon be an "Old Maid", & her "Reading", suggests, that
she marry young! now - what is she to do about it? She is
still thrilled with her work - & making splendid sales. Some
time, look up Mrs. [
1921]'s letter to you - & see if she
signed herself [
1921] - or Mrs. [...]. No word from her as
yet - guess she must have changed her mind. I've a hunch she
came across my picture in a silver frame - which [
1821] had.
Christmas will soon be here - busy days are ahead of us all.
I wrote to Filenes' "Shopper", in Boston, asking her to
select a wedding gift for Hugh Lynn & his wife - & sending it
to them - at YOUR HOME.
Has anything arrived from there for them? I wrote over a
month ago - back in October. Have paid for the gift - so
would like to check up on it. Just hope that you are well -
and that nothing is wrong. Give my love to Gertrude.
Hastily, [

12/08/41 EC's letter to [
1770]:
Thank you for yours of the 4th - appreciate your anxiety for
me more than know how to tell you, and was fine, just fine
until yesterday, when I suddenly began a very lovely cold,
but will throw it off am sure, or hope so. Am anxious about
you all now there on the West Coast. Know it makes your
heart sick to think of the harbor and Hawaii being bombed.
Let's hope and pray it will all be settled soon, tho know it
will require a great deal of fortitude and prayer and right
living to meet all there is to come. Mighty hard on all the
mothers Wives and sweethearts, that have soldiers in the
service just now.
Wrote you soon after got home so our letters crossed,
possibly got them about the same time.
No as said before, came home fresher than when left, and have
been feeling wonderful until this cold. Hope tho to get rid
of it soon.
Oh so [
1771] is getting to be a big girl now. Oh no am sure
she will never be an old Maid, is too lovely and too fine a
girl to be that unless it is her own choice to be such.
It's fine that she likes her work so. Glad she is doing so
nicely. Know it pleases her very much give her my love.
Heard from Mrs. [
1921] about the 1st of Oct. She signed her
letter (Mrs) [
1921] and said - "recently have come in
possession of something of hers which I believe she would
like to have, but do not have her present address". So you
may be right, do not know.
Yes - H. L. and Sally received a package from Boston from
you. You doubtless have heard from them, tho Sally has been
on the go so much don't know how she has answered her
letters. She and H. L. carried us to N.Y. and came after us.
She has been home once and several of her sisters have been
to see her one time or another.
Hope all is well - but from the radio - you must know what
Eng. has been experiencing for many months. Let's hope all
will be well - my what a turmoil this poor old world is in
these days.
Let us hear from you - of course will be anxious to know how
things are with you all on the west Coast.
What a Christmas this will be - with all the hate that is
trying to be engendered in the minds of all.
Mrs. [
1921]'s address given was ...
Love to you both from all here [signed] Edgar Cayce
12/10/41 [
1770]'s letter to EC:
Dear Edgar:-
"Blackouts" - "Defense wardens" - "air raid wardens" -
constant instructions are coming in via the radio - Is this
the peaceful U.S.A.?
What a difference - just a few days - can make in our daily
lives - and who knows - what is coming?
Was so happy to receive your letter of Dec. 2nd. Guess mine
must have crossed it, enroute across the miles. Am glad that
you were resting up in beautiful New Hamshire - you failed to
mention - just WHERE in N.H. - and I'm wondering if you were
at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Tom Drier. Tom & "Snug", Drier -
are old friends of mine - of the long ago. Have not seen
them in ten years - but they have just such a home - as you
write of! Did you meet them personally - & how did you
happen to know about them. I can't remember what he calls
his home. He has written a book about it. He and my [...]
[late husband] were great friends.
I'm all agog - do tell me if you were really at his home. He
and Snug have a winter home in Florida - near St. Petersburg
- at least they did have a few years back.
Haven't heard a word from any one, as yet, about your N.Y.
lecture, but but I'm sure no one could criticize. Why should
they?
[
1468] not at the meeting?? I can hardly believe it - of
course you missed such a loyal supporter.
Have met three or four people - all Rosicrucians - (Amore)
and at least they understand my language - some evening soon
they are going to be introduced to "Edgar Cayce".
Well, we are in the war now - and the West Coast is open to
most anything - after what happened in Hawaii. Am anxious to
hear from my many friends there - hope they were unharmed.
Found a Health Store that sold "Adiron", last week - so have
a $3.00 bottle. Money is scarce - but as soon as I can -
I'll have another Physical Reading.
Heard of a Dr. Hiss - foot clinic - Los Angeles, Cal. Had my
feet examined here in Seattle & am taking some treatments &
am now wearing Dr. Hiss shoes. Walk so much these days -
that I felt it was a good investment.
[
1771] sends her love to you all - along with mine. Presume
you'll be seeing [
2072] & [
1861] soon. Remember us to them.
Did Hugh Lynn receive a wedding gift - from Filenes Boston -
from me? It's been paid for. Let me know. Best wishes

12/17/41 EC's letter to [
1770]:
Dear [
1770]:
Have been anxious to hear from you, since this terrible
struggle has begun, and to know how the good people out that
way look on same. We like you are having tests of Blackouts,
sirens, radio instructions and all. In the main tho
everything seems gradually getting over the shock, but guess
what one experiences is a reflection of that within
themselves. Knew you would be anxious of the ones dear to
you in Hawaii, and the beautiful places you described so
beautifully there. We too have friends there, and heard
from some just the day before the outrage and a Christmas
card since from another mailed the day before. This makes
us all the more anxious.
Oh, sorry didn't tell you just where we were in N.H. This
time we stayed with a friend Mrs. Emmit in Rye, and she it is
that has the summer home in Wilton, N.H.; goes there for the
summer - Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. Has a most
interesting family. Mrs. Emmit herself [Mrs. Rober R. M.
(Beulah Hepburn) Emmet] sponsors the Edgewood school in
Grenwich, Conn. and assists in coaching and teaching dramatic
class. The school is for children from kindergarten to
College, boys and girls, has boarders and day pupils. There
are 176 in school this year. Her husband is a Captain in the
Navy, is now in the Norfolk area, with a fleet of merchant as
well as destroyers. Has one boy married [Robert Temple
Emmet] who lives on the farm in N.H. They recently have a
son [Jr., "Robin"] about three months old now I guess. The
wife [Ellen Temple Emmet] a niece of Henry James the
psychologist very lovely person, quite psychic herself. The
next son [Barton Emmet] is in army camp here at Ft.
Pendleton. The group he is with has recently been ordered
away from here where we do not know. A daughter [Beulah E.
("Boo") Emmet] who is a sculptress, has a studio there in Rye
over the garage there at the home. Quite an interesting
person, very talented studied a year or more with the Rudolph
Steiner group in Switzerland. Then the younger boy [John
Emmet] now in school at Grenwich, but is supposed to go to
Harvard next year.
So didn't meet your friends Mr. and Mrs. Drier - wish had,
but didn't. But that house in N.H. - well this describes it
to me - some day when you and I may have a vacation and can
spend it somewhere together - hope it may be in a place just
like that or that place. Mrs. Emmit's place is called "High
Mowing Farm."
Well am sure you will hear from someone some time about the
meeting in N.Y. for as said, there were many there who told
me they were there from having heard directly or indirectly
from you about the meeting - and again I thank you. But
seems to me am always indebted to you for something lovely,
but guess like it.
Was told that [
1468] was at the meeting but did not myself
see or speak to her. No don't quite understand, but am sure
it is alright. You may be sure I certainly did miss her.
Thank you - yes Rosicrucian students would understand the
language of the work. Have had two most interesting
experiences in last ten days - call it what you will or may;
had call from a lady in Washington D.C. Said her Sister was
quite ill - Dr's didn't know what to do. Asked her to talk
with her Sister, and tell her I would try. Got reading -
sent it on and in just few days had this: - "Thank you and
God Bless you. Received reading, gave it to the nurse at the
hospital, asked her to do what was suggested. She said she
couldn't unless the Dr. said so, but Sister began to improve
at once, and asked the Dr. for the reading - He then told
nurse to do what was suggested. There must be something in
this for her attitude was different. She continues on the
improve." Good isn't it call it what you like.
Then a Mother called from there (W) said her daughter (23)
was critically ill. I told her to talk with her daughter,
and tell her I was praying for her - she said but she is
unconscious, from fever. Told her to talk with her anyway,
she did. We gave the reading. From the hour the reading was
given the fever began to break. She is free from fever, and
on the road to health the Dr. admits. All praise to HIM the
giver of all good and perfect gifts.
Is very much like the lady you spoke to in Los Angeles - for
her Mother.
Glad you found the Adiron there - is a very fine combination
for the body. Need some myself as have had a cold for last
few days - will be better tho soon am sure.
Glad you have gotten help - walking so much will tend to
break down tendons if not careful - and the right shoes will
help a lot. Just heard from [
2072] and [
1861] haven't seen
them since been to N.Y. they are both fine she says.
Yes - Sally is here today as Edgar Evans is home for few
days, and will have our Christmas dinner tomorrow for him.
She says she has written you, suspect you have it before now
so they received the package alright.
Don't like the idea of world war. Is not unexpected yet just
hoped against hope it would not happen here. Hate to think
of our boys being sent abroad to fight in foreign countries.
Yet possibly will require just that to settle the whole
thing. May HE be the guide all the way - realize "God will
not be mocked, and what ever a man sows that must he also
reap". Could the world but learn that, the whole spiritual -
as well as literal meaning, how much better it might be.
Write again soon - love to you and [

the costume?? [signed] Edgar

1770]'s letter to EC:
Dear Edgar:-
Your picture in your gown - is before me - somehow you look
like a Brahmin priest - do you ever feel like one? Thanks so
much for enclosing it - in your last letter & for your
beautiful Christmas Greeting.
Our apartment is still green with pine & cedar - & gay with
our many Christmas cards - just hate putting them away - they
are so cheery - and a symbol to us - of our many friends
scattered all over this U.S.A. Had word from my friends in
Hawaii - written on Dec. 28th - they had had no bombing THEN
- of the big island - but we read that Hilo - had been
attacked - but little damage was done. They have nightly
blackouts - & no one is supposed to be out after dark unless
on official business. Nelly writes - "people are becoming,
'home minded' - and it's a GOOD THING. No more movie going -
every time a new picture comes to town."
[
1771] just came in for luncheon - it's a nice surprise every
now & then.
Our Red Cross Headquarters are crowded every day - with
willing workers - I'm getting quite expert - in bandage
making. We have both offered our services to the Gray Lady
Corps. who do hospital recreation work - am waiting for an
assignment to a class - for study etc.
Last week we had a real snow storm. It was beautiful while
it lasted. Some of the children - around eight years of age
- had never played in the snow before - & our friends little
boy Jerry - came in to his mother crying why didn't you tell
me that snow was so cold? Poor little lamb - he was aching
all over. Experience is the one & only teacher - as we
travel along.
Have not heard from Mrs. [
1921] - but had a greeting card
from [
1821] - he is still employed in ...
We sent you a box of "holly" - from our North West - hope it
arrived safely at your door.
Ariel Taylor - was so happy in meeting you - while you were
in New York - I must write you a few lines from her letter.
Quote "(Don't know when I've had such a truly enjoyable
evening. We certainly thank you! Talked with Mr. Cayce
afterwards & got an idea of his work - which was very
interesting to me - he tunes in with the individual - & then
with a higher octane of knowledge, in rhythm with that
particular person - on the higher planes.
His 'going to sleep' on a question is a secret of gaining
knowledge that others could use to advantage. If they could
just go to sleep on it. The few times I have been able to do
so, I've had some perfectly marvelous demonstrations - and he
showed me the principle, more than I've ever recognized or
realized before.") end quote.
Her last sentence was - "Have you found a nice man with iron
gray hair at the temples - to keep you interested? Go to
sleep on THAT and see if he will not appear!"
She is a darling soul - do you remember meeting her? She
taught me "Numerology".
Have errands to do down town - so must be on my way. Best
love to you & yours - from us both. [

1/17/42 EC's letter to [
1770]:
Dear [
1770]:
As always was a real pleasure to have yours of the 14th.
Glad you liked the picture - yes, had thought the picture
looked more like a priest than any had ever seen of me. Have
another costume now will try and get one made in that and see
what you think of this. Believe this is about what have
wanted.
Have had many compliments on the card at Christmas have so
many to send them to am always hard put to know what to do,
so gave the best of my heart in the card. Guess by now you
have the open letter to the membership. Am anxious to know
what you think of that - have really been amazed at the ready
response have thus far had to that - will in the next week or
so try for the information, and send what is received to all
who appear interested.
We had a lovely Christmas, cards and remembrances by the
score - all much nicer to me than I deserve am sure - but
makes me all the more determined to try and live up to it all
as best can.
Oh I wrote you a special little note about the HOLLY it was
lovely just as fresh as if it had been gathered that day, and
added a lot to the beauty and pleasure of the rooms here.
Thanks a million times for the remembrance - sorry you missed
the note.
Have had a card from friends in Hawaii. One of the boys
[
1641] who was on the Enterprise was in Pearl Harbor the day
of the Attack. He was all OK when last heard from him.
Am sure you are keeping busy with all your activities, and is
nice to have some one run in now and then. How is [
1771]
just fine, am sure and doing her bit.
Quite a bit of snow and ice here last week lasted a whole
week, but today is like early spring out lovely - hard to
think there is war and suffering the world round - just heard
on radio of the crash of the Sky Liner with Carol Lombard and
mother with army officers aboard. Hope it is not as bad as
is supposed just now.
Well suppose Jerry was surprised to find something so
beautiful could be so cold. Oft we find that as appears
beautiful tho - has it's sting within.
So you have never heard from Mrs. [
1921]. Can't understand
why she was so anxious to have your address - something must
have happened.
Yes, remember Ariel Taylor. Am very glad to know she was
please with my feeble efforts. Appreciate your telling me
her impressions and quoting from her letter. Wish every one
could or would get the same idea about the work - think it
would help.
And have you tried her suggestion - and has he appeared as
yet?? But judging from something you said some time ago,
such has been put out of your mind - for more urgent need -
might I say.
Thanks again for everything. Write when you find chance
always enjoy your letters more than you know - they do help a
lot.
All pretty well here. E. E. the boy in army has been sent to
officers training camp in N.J. H. L. and Sally have gone to
see Sugrue about the work on the book. Will be away possibly
a week he is in Fla. H. L. was sent for by Government day or
so ago. Want him to take some state defense place. Don't
know what his decision is as yet. Very complimentary to the
work he has been doing here [in Recreation Work].
All send love to you and [
1771].

1770]'s letter to EC:
My dear Edgar:-
In answer to your letter to the "Members of the Assc.
[
1/08/42 See under
2678-1 Background]:
To the question - "Will it help in such an emergency as
exists at this time, in the affairs of each one of us?"
Of course it will help! Your great gift is an inspiration to
all who have been privileged to have a Reading - whether it
be a Physical or a Life Reading - and to those of us who have
come for aid and comfort it has certainly brought us a better
understanding of God's spirit - working thru you - and given
us the desire to "tune in", ourselves - with that spirit &
which you demonstrate daily - is there for us to call upon.
I will gladly set aside a few moments each day in prayer for
Divine guidance? Is it your wish that we do so - at a
specific time? that is - if your friends in the east -
suggest one hour - those in the west should tune in, in
prayer - say three hrs. earlier? 9 A.M. E.S.T. would be 6
A.M. P.S.T. 12 noon here - is 3 P.M in Virginia, etc. etc.
Should the members try to tune in at the SAME HOUR - WHERE
EVER THEY ARE?
There is supposed to be no time or space in reality - and I
believe that - but I realize also - that where, "two or more
are gathered in my name" - the vibrations sent out thru space
will be that much more effective. With all that love &
desire for Divine guidance sent forth - we should be of some
help in this war torn world.
If our MOTIVES are to be, "of service" - we can do our small
part to counteract - against the vibrations of evil. It
takes constant vigilance in our daily thinking. We must know
deep in our hearts that this chaos is merely SEEMING - that
UNDERNEATH is a well laid plan - too great for us to
understand. God is over all. This war must be purposeful -
great lessons will be taught to individuals - to nations! We
must learn what you have so often said, ye shall love thy
neighbor as thyself - and God is over all - in all - God is
Love!
Will be looking forward to what ever information comes thru.

1/25/42 [
1770]'s letter to EC:
Dear Edgar:-
Thanks for your letter of the 17th. I'm sorry that I missed
your note about the Holly - but I'm glad that it arrived
safely at your door.
We've had two letters from my dear friends in Hawaii - and
they are moving from their Harbor home to another part of the
island. Nelly writes, "If only we can keep HATE from our
thoughts it will be one of the finest things to aid all
around us. Here in Hawaii we have so many races about us
that it is a fine thing to see the blending of them all
shoulder to shoulder." end quote.
How true that is - and what a hard way - we people are
learning that lesson.
The Filipinos and our soldiers - the Chinese and the Dutch -
when they are fighting shoulder to shoulder - all class
distinctions fade away - and they realize (the hard way) -
that we are all brothers under the skin.
Even the individual Germans - Japanese & the other members of
the Axis - they too are our brothers under the skin. That is
why we must not allow "hate" to enter into our hearts - there
is enough of that dark force let loose on this planet - we
must work hourly - to counteract it - by sending out thoughts
of love - "DIVINE LOVE heals." It will take time - much
suffering - but in the end - great truths will be - must be
learned - and I feel - that our leader is an enlightened soul
- tho many around him are not.
Monday Jan. 26 - Just received a letter from another friend
in Honolulu - her husband is on a destroyer. She has the
dearest baby, Nancy Blush Hausen - they may be forced to
return to the mainland. Glad to hear that your friend [
1641]
is safe.
When the leaders of our army & navy - become enlightened -
forget themselves - their jealousies etc. - such tragedies as
Pearl Harbor - will never happen again. Such things leave me
speechless! the lives of so many of our young men wiped out!
well - God grant that they will return soon to this earth
planet - with understanding - so that they will lead others -
to the true meaning, "The Brotherhood of Man."
[
1771] was a "Blood donor" last week - & felt no after
effects from the loss of blood. I offered myself - but they
refused - so I'm still busy - with other Red Cross duties.
The studying of "Fist Aid", is a bore - but one must pass it
- so - I have no choice in the matter.
[
1771] spent yesterday in the mountains - skiing - and
watching expert skiers - jump. It was a thrilling sight - &
she is anxious for me to accompany her - at the next meet,
but I'll WATCH.
Am enclosing check for the, "Fund," covering December &
January. Wish I could save enough for more Readings for
myself - but the money goes - & now there are "Taxes & more
Taxes - & insurance premiums coming due - so I'll forget
about myself - & carry on as best I can - with Divine
guidance.
The U Boats are carrying on - around your shores - hope they
will soon be discovered - as those playing around our pacific
shores were.
It's a strange world we are living in - and it will take a
lot of "Divine guidance" - to keep our spirits - Lifted High
- but that's the challenge to all of us in the year 1942
(16/7).
Much love to you & yours. [
1770]
(I know [
1771] joins me.)
1/29/42 EC's letter to [
1770]:
Dear [
1770]:
Thanks so much for yours of the 24th and 25th. Have been
rather anxious to have your reaction to the suggestion for
the prayers of the members of the Ass'n for Divine Guidance,
and thank you more than know just how to say it for your
expression of hope and love for the good of all. Have been
very much pleased with the lively response have had from the
letter, and believe there will be given something worthwhile
with these letters as a background. Hope to get this reading
now very soon. Just what time or times will be given do not
know will leave that to the information.
Don't like for even a thank you not to get lost in the
shuffle, but such does at times am sure. The Holly from
there is so different from what we have about here, was most
like a curiosity. Certainly thank you for the lovely thought
of us, again. Glad you have had good news from your friends
in Hawaii. Seems from reports there must have been sad
neglect on the part of someone. But we should never condemn
anyone am sure.
Possibly there is nothing could have united the people of
this land as that attack did, what a dear lesson, but they
who lost their lives in bringing such about have not live in
vain. And all of one purpose fighting together will bring
bonds of unity in Spirit am sure. Yes - the thing that
appalls me is the feel of the HATE as is being let loose in
the earth today. We need something to counteract this if
possible. Our prayers and minds directed to the HOPE of
Divine Guidance feel will help out leaders everywhere.
Hope if your friend does return to mainland all will be safe,
and that her husband may be spared for a happy return to
normal life again.
So [
1771] is a blood donor. What a wonderful help that blood
will be for somebody, may it gather something of the
wonderful soul also. It must set some vibration that will
aid spiritually also.
Suppose routine does become irksome at times, but much work
must be done.
Skiing must be a wonderful sport. There has been the time
when would have liked to have undertaken it, but now think
would like best to be on the side line and watch. Give her
our love and am sure she is having a wonderful time.
Thanks for the enclosure. Can hardly wait for you to see the
new offices. We are gradually getting straight, books are
coming in bit by bit and will make some time a very
interesting study for someone that wishes to delve into such.
Glad to try and help anytime with the readings, just let me
know what you wish and will try.
Yes the U-boats have been busy on our coast, and so many of
the survivors have been brought in here at Norfolk. We
possibly see or hear more than is good for us at times.
Understand some of the boats tho have been brought in also
tho may be rumor only do not know.
Yes when one looks out and sees the peace apparent - yet
feels the turmoil it is indeed a strange world about us at
this time. And without HIS presence personally wonder how
one holds together at times. Was in a meeting yesterday a
Glenn Clark meeting, ever hear of him - and a Mother asked
Mr. Clark what message could he give her. She has two sons
in the Pacific area and has heard nothing from either of them
since before Dec. 7th.
Indeed a curious world - but ran across a line the other day
that struck me rather forcibly - "God is our true appreciator
- man poor weak sinful man does the judging of his fellow
Man."
Let us hear from you again soon. With much love from all of
us to each of you.
With love [signed] Edgar Cayce
