5/10/50 [
1783]'s letter to GD:
..., Calif.
Dear Gladys Davis:
You will, of course, not remember me, but I was one of many
who had the pleasure of meeting you at the ... once upon a
time, (I met and talked with Mr. Cayce when he was there,
too) and I have heard a great deal about you from Mr. [
2091]
with whom I have worked for many years, - so, in a way I
"know" you!
I know, too, that you must be a very busy person, indeed, and
I should not be taking your time if I were not in quite a
serious jam. Perhaps the Cayce Foundation can help me out a
bit, so I am turning to the one person down there with whom I
have any connection.
About six weeks ago I was invited out here by my aunt
to enjoy the sunshine (it has "fogged" most of the time,
however) and no sooner had I arrived than she was hit by the
most terrific pain in the back of her neck and head, jaws,
etc. It has continued almost uninterruptedly and is so
unbearable that she must take empirin tablets (at first
every 8 hours but now every 3 and they are no longer very
effective) day and night. This keeps her stomach upset
as she, being an old-fashioned doctor's wife, never took
medicines and is not used to them.
The doctors here admit they can do nothing, although they
have finally recommended a kind of osteopathy in which the
spine is gently stretched and made more flexible. She has
had 7 or 8 treatments of an hour each three times a week but
notices no improvement as yet. Besides all this, she has
lost one eye from hemorrhages in the retina and the other is
fast failing. OTHERWISE! she is just fine! But she really
isn't old in the usual sense, always being interested in
things, driving her own car, taking trips, etc. This sudden
confinement and pain has brought on a major depression. I
ought to be getting back home to ... but I hate to leave
her in such a condition with no hope of any kind.
I thought that in your files you might have a cure that would
fit this particular brand of arthritis and I am sure my aunt
would try it with all the energy she has left if you would
let me know what it is. She has written to every person she
knows who has in any way been helped to find out what helped,
but all the "cures" were only partial and all very different.
Arthritis, it seems, has many forms. The heart condition
does not worry her and she rather hopes it will carry her
off so that she will not have years of this pain, but it does
seem better as she has taken good care of herself since she
had her first attack five years ago and had to spend three
months in the hospital.
Now that I have treated you like a doctor and bored you no
end, I hope you will forgive me! You see, I am in quite a
fix, and if I am ever to get hone, I must have help! I hope
you are well and can "take it"! Please give my greetings to
Mrs. Davis [Louie Irene Davis] who visited us last summer,
if she remembers me. And please, too, accept my very great
appreciation of anything you can do for my aunt.
Sincerely, [

Dear [
1783]:
Indeed I do remember you - and most pleasantly!
I'm enclosing our Abstract* of 59 Arthritis cases and wish
to emphasize particularly the Epsom Salts Packs, Peanut Oil
massage, Osteopathy, and colonic irrigations. Also enclosed
is an issue of The Searchlight carrying some extracts on the
eyes which may be of interest.
I do hope that some of these suggestions may be of benefit
for your aunt, and that you may soon be able to return to
... - where I know your heart is.
Mrs. Davis asks to be remembered to you. We hope that you
will be able to pay us a visit in Virginia Beach some day and
get firsthand information on what we're trying to accomplish.
Please let me know if I can be of service.
Sincerely, [signed] D. Gladys Davis

5/20/50 [
1783] letter to GD:
..., Cal.
Dear Gladys Davis:
You are a peach to have responded so quickly to my SOS! I
have copied out the remedies that seemed to apply and can
only hope my aunt will do something about them. In the
meantime, however, she went to a neurosurgeon who said it
wasn't the arthritis that caused her pain, but neuritis! She
has been taking codeine ever since, and although it nauseates
her the next morning, it gives her a good night's rest and
carries her through most of the day at present. He assured
her that it was caused by a virus and this would be played
out within a couple of months, so she is very hopeful and
not inclined to exert herself to diet or go to any trouble
otherwise. Perhaps I should not have bothered you to send
help! However, if she slips back and the codeine becomes
ineffective I think she will have to take some other means
of cure.
I am packed up and about to leave for Carmel for a couple
of weeks, with the possibility of returning here before
I go back to New York, if necessary. However, something
may happen to keep me here after all. There are
sometimes heart attacks, and I am prepared for anything.
Please accept the enclosed small contribution for the work
there as a token of thanks and appreciation. More power to
you all! I hope we shall meet again before too long, at ...
if not at Virginia Beach.
Yours sincerely, [

12/30/72 Letter from B. B. in Illinois in reply to
questionnaire on benefits of membership:
"Gentlemen: After reading your circulating file on breast
tumors. I completely changed my diet from fried foods,
meats, carbohydrates and sweets to nuts, fruits, vegetables,
poultry and fish. Until the diet change I had to use a
high enema once or twice a week for over a year to keep
eliminations open. I have not had an enema in over a
month now.
"Breakfast is now a boiled egg and orange juice. Once in
a while milk and whole wheat cereal. Lunch is a tossed
salad without dressing, a jello salad and coffee. Cashews,
peanuts, almonds and raisins, dried apricots are used between
meals to munch on. Supper is tuna fish, canned fruit,
uncooked greens such as endive, escarole, watercress and
several leaves of turnip greens. Turnip greens seem to
be an excellent laxative for me.
"Also I have been using cocoa butter from breast to and over
shoulder blades. It has helped remove some of the smarting
sensation in the breasts..."
