After the first six to ten osteopathic treatments (not
before), - to aid in relieving the body tension, we would
occasionally use the violet ray; this not every day, but when
the body is tired, when there has been an extra amount of
either mental or physical exertion, or the mental and
physical exhaustion. When ready to retire, give first the
shower of hot and cold water, - one, then the other, several
times, to get this shock that comes from such sudden changes
to the exterior of the body. Then apply the violet ray (bulb
applicator) especially along the area from the 9th dorsal to
the back of the neck; not over the head nor the side of the
face, but along the spine - for a minute or minute and a
half. Take this yourself, you see, or at home; for this will
not be in keeping with the one making adjustments - he would
disagree; but this is what is needed. Use the bulb
applicator, and from the areas indicated, - have these
pointed out; 9th dorsal to the 2nd cervical, see? NOT on
back of the head nor on side of face, for this would be
harmful! Not too severe, but have this applied just before
retiring, and after the shock from hot and cold shower.
Do these, and for the particular conditions we will find
improvements - and preventions that will aid this body in
keeping a better normal equilibrium; thus aiding the body to
contribute better to the mental and spiritual attributes and
activities of the body.
Ready for questions.
(Q) What is the cause of the itching rash on my shoulders,
and what remedy is suggested?
(A) This comes from this nervous tension. We would apply
the DDD cream, between those periods until these corrections
are made; and until there is the setting up of the proper
eliminations and coordinations between the nerve centers in
those areas of the upper dorsal, upper cervical, and through
the body-forces here.
(Q) Are there any specific foods to eat or avoid?
(A) As for this body, we find that a well balanced diet is
preferable; rather than setting any specific things of this
or that nature. The body has found that there are certain
foods it is better to refrain from, but keep a well balanced
diet - especially not over sugars nor sweets, but plenty of
fruits and vegetables. Not too much of meats, but fish and
fowl. These - as a regular diet - are best for this body.
(Q) What type of exercise or recreation would be most
helpful in relieving my nervous tension?
(A) The preferable, as we find, would be tennis; though
don't take it too seriously or too hard!
(Q) Which osteopath in Norfolk would be suggested to make
these corrections?
(A) Richardson.
(Q) What is the cause of the recurrent dull ache in my jaw,
and what remedy is suggested?
(A) As indicated, this is a portion of the reflex from that
pressure upon the ganglion governing the fifth nerve; and
this is the most dangerous portion of the disturbance, see?
This requires the better and the more specific use of the
mechanical (osteopathic) adjustments.
We are through for the present. [See GD's note below.]

[4/07/43 GD's note: Remarks afterwards: Very grateful;
always believed in the Physical Rdgs., been going to Dr.
Martin for this nervous condition, inability to relax, pain
in jaw, etc., for several years; just told him he needed to
relax, get out and play more. But knew there was some
underlying cause for it. When about 12 or 13, on first Scout
camping trip, threw a ball and caused a strain in shoulder
and arm - suffered with it six months afterwards; probably
the injury in the dorsal area the Rdg. refers to. Felt bad
about taking up time in a Physical Rdg. for apparently such a
minor condition, but glad now he did.]
REPORTS
5/06/44 [
1842]'s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce,
According to my recollection and engagement pad Wednesday,
May 10, is the day for my check reading. I believe you gave
me a 10:30 A.M. appointment.
I am eager for this reading, as I want some good advice. I
miss Dr. Richardson's treatments. Since being here I have
not been able to take treatments regularly, as there is no
osteopath in this immediate vicinity. I felt that he did me
a great deal of good.
Perhaps these few questions might be used in the reading:
1. What treatment is recommended in lieu of osteopathic
treatments?
2. What osteopath in this section is recommended?
3. What causes the pain in my right knee, and what can be
done to relieve it?
I assume that the reading itself will cover the general
condition and evaluate what has been done and specify further
treatment.
