This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 3rd day of July, 1939, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [1849], Associate Member of the Ass'n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Present: Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. [[1857] (sister of [1849])]. Born January 13, 1902, in Hamburg, Alabama.

TEXT

1. GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, and that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions she has submitted, as I ask them:
2. EC: (In going back over years from present - " - '37 - yes - been a shadow through the activity '36 - '35 - '34 - much different - '33 - '20 - yes - a change '19 - " etc., on back to birth date.)
3. Yes, - we have the records here of that entity now known as or called, [1849].
4. In giving the interpretations of the records as we find them, these are chosen with the desire and purpose that these may be a helpful influence or experience for the entity.
5. For the abilities for a great spiritual as well as mental and material advancement may be the experience of the entity in the present sojourn.
6. That there has been quite a checkered as well as a varied application of the abilities of the entity is indicated in the present. Yet, as may be inferred, the entity being not only a Uranian but an Atlantean, it has the abilities for quite an unusual career.
7. This has been and may be again, dependent upon the application of the influences and abilities; a very high, a very exalted, and yet at others a very discouraging, a very DETERMINED experience, - yet an application that may make for disappointments in the material expression of those influ- ences and forces in the experiences of the entity in the present.
8. There may be given much, yet it is the application of so little that needs be for the entity to comprehend, to understand, to be awakened to the purposes, the desires, the causes that rule the influences in the material as well as in the mental and spiritual relationships through this material sojourn.
9. Coming in those astrological aspects, we find the entity is one with a great deal of strength of character, strength of purpose; and yet so easily persuaded or dissuaded by material circumstance, - yet innately knowing there IS a way that may seem right unto a man, though the end thereof is death, is disappointment, is that which maketh the heart afraid.
10. From the urges arising not only from the astrological sojourns but from the very activities in which the entity has applied itself through the earthly experiences, this present experience included, we find that omens, figures (or numerologically speaking), as well as metals and colors, having much to do with the entity in its application of the intent, the purpose of the entity from experience to experience. This is true whether applied from the past sojourns, or from the present material analysis of individual or of companionable circumstance.
11. Thus we find there have been those relationships in this material plane, as well as those through the activities in various spheres, that have caused a great deal of anxiety, as well as periods of stumbling, as well as periods of exaltation and of glorifying.
12. As to colors, - black and gold should be much about the entity. Not that these natures ARE as the background, but the urges innately for keeping self purged, and keeping the mental attitude as well as the purposes and desires in the way in which there may be kept in the forefront the greater application of the purposes of an individual making material manifestation.
13. Three's or their multiples, or their squares, become the numbers, or the numerological aspects for the entity.
14. Also, for the harmonies for the entity, that represented in the fleur de lis, with the shield of the Roman, as combined with that upon the flag of the Egyptian, should be as the life purposes. For in each of these will be seen a great influence in not only the present material sojourn but how and in what manner such forces may bring those vibrations to the entity in this material plane.
15. The associations, then, with those that are of French extract, as combined with conditions having to do with Rome, - not Italy but ROME as a background; and the odors as from Egypt; these be the influences that may be brought about the entity for that urge to be kept the greater, or for the more harmonious balance in its abilities for choice in material associations with individuals or groups.
16. We find from the astrological aspects the influences from Venus, Jupiter, - Uranus being the ruling force with these.
17. Hence as will be indicated by the experience of the entity in the present sojourn, those things having to do with home, the building of home, as to its own flesh or blood, have had for the entity experiences in which EXTREMES have been manifested; arising to the heights even of ecstasy at times, and yet at others the very opposite becoming a part of the material experience.
18. These have also applied, and will apply, in the marital relationships, as well as the associations in a commercial nature.
19. Yet the application needs to be centered in the spiritual, and not to become shaken by signs or omens or that as may be of material or mental reasoning.
20. For, each soul enters the material plane for the fulfilling of a purpose; that it, the soul, may be one with the Creative Forces. And when such is allowed to be overridden because of the application for material gains, or for self-indulgence, or self-glorification, or for self-exaltation, - then stumblingblocks are in the experience.
21. Yet, as with this entity, we find there is a continual harking to those innate urges for a greater spiritual understanding, that innate call for a greater spiritual awakening.
22. Confuse these not with the material or earthly gains. For the earthly or material gains must be the OUTCOME, the RESULT of a spiritual, a mental purpose, a desire, an exemplification of same in the dealings and relationships with others, for it to be a permanent or growing experience, and to not become more and more of such a fluctuating nature as to continue to bring greater and greater confusion - until, in the aims and purposes, there is lost the real desire for which the soul sought material manifestations.
23. As to the appearances in the earth, - these we find not appearing to be so many, yet these that are chosen to be given may illustrate those things that have been as the virtues as well as the faults in the entity's application of that it has sought and does seek to exemplify or manifest through this material experience.
24. As has been indicated, the abilities, the qualities are latent, - yet these are to be applied - as with all - as He gave; that of him to whom much is given is much required. This was illustrated in how the Master related the incident of the five or ten or one or two talents being given, and the use of same as a growth, an increase; not merely of the material but that the glory of the purpose might be made manifest.
25. So in the experience of this individual, this soul-entity, who seeks in this present experience to find itself and its relationships to not only the Creative Force but to its fellow man, and in the manifestation with and among its fellow men, - to exemplify that which IS the purpose in the mental and spiritual aspects of this present sojourn.
26. Before this we find the entity (among those having the greater present influence) was in the French land in the periods when Louis was the King.
27. Hence, as has been indicated, the purposes, the signs, the symbols, the heraldry of that land are of particular interest, are of particular import in the very nature of the entity.
28. DO NOT, as then, allow that of self-esteem to become a stumbling-block to self's spiritual advancement!
29. For the abilities of the entity in that sojourn were used in making relationships with and comparisons of those in the Court throughout that experience; being very active in the POWER the entity wielded over those peoples as well as the ruler himself. Hence these made for advancements and for retardments; for confusions, for likes and dislikes.
30. The entity was named then Pompeia (?). In the experience the entity found itself with such abilities that in the present these are seen in the abilities for the carriage, the dress, the abilities to attract, the abilities to confuse, the abilities to keep many guessing, the abilities to go to the extreme, - these all arise from the activities of the entity through that sojourn.
31. How, then, may the entity apply in the present experience its abilities for constructive purposes rather than for confusion or destructive forces? By becoming as He gave, "He that would be the greater among you will be the servant of all."
32. Then, applying self in those channels of activity in which there is relief from confusion, - whether in body, in mind, in associations, in relationships with others, - these be channels through which the entity may use its abilities in the present for the activities that may bring the greater forces or influences in the present experience for greater development.
33. Before that we find the entity was in that period when there were the activities of the Roman land in the land of Promise.
34. There we find the entity was among those who were the companions and the entity being the associate of one in authority, in power, in that land.
35. There we find the entity was among those peoples who embraced the teachings not only of the Master but of His followers, and among those who were of the FIRST in authority and power to do so, - not only in the Caesarean land or in Palestine but also in Rome.
36. Hence, as has been indicated, the emblems of Rome - NOT of Italy, but as to what Rome itself stood for - in might, in power, and yet as dealing might and power in creating hope, creating patience, creating passion, creating brotherly love, creating kindness, creating gentleness; AS is indicated by the very FACT of the Church being Roman in its purpose, in its INTUITIVE reaction.
37. Hence we find the entity, then, was as the companion of Cornelius. No, the entity has not been in association with that one in the present save as afar, yet through the ASSOCIATES and companions of that one in the present - who is among the rulers in the present land - may the entity find a means, a channel for an outlet of its purposes in this material plane.
38. The name then was Ex-elor.
39. Before that we find the entity was in the Egyptian land during those experiences when there were the close associations and activities of the Natives as well as those of the land to which the Priest was banished.
40. There we find the entity was among the princesses of the Abyssinian land, and yet was in close association with the Priest upon his return to Egypt; becoming a companion - but not a consort of the Priest.
41. And during those periods of reconstruction the entity arose to a place of position by its very association with the Priest, as well as those who were in authority in the Temple of Sacrifice, and in the Temple Beautiful.
42. Hence we find the entity was among those who aided those who would put away the weaknesses of the flesh, those who would consecrate themselves in the Temple Service, in the Temple Beautiful.
43. Thus we find the abilities to which the entity may apply itself the greater in the present, - as the preservatives, as the very natures for those developments of the beauty of body for consecrated service for the very affiliations with activities in which the body may be used as the means of expression, - whether in the dance, in music, in art, or just to attract and to be attractive to the own associates or companions. These become a part of the entity's experience.
44. Hence the abilities to prepare lotions, powders, or to apply for bodily needs those things that would make for the better physical expression, become channels in which the entity may become more and more an adept in being a constructive influence in the lives and the experiences of others.
45. Though those channels may appear at times to become as a disturbing force, hold fast to those things which will bring into the experience greater joys and greater harmonies, - through becoming a greater help to thy fellow man!
46. The name then was Asma-shdn.
47. Before that we find the entity was in the Atlantean land. There we find the entity was among those of the children of the Law of One, during those periods when there were the second periods of the upheaval in the land, and the entity was among those who were in authority and in power.
48. Hence the entity counseled those who made the first of the exodus to other lands.
49. Hence we find the seeking through other channels, other lands, other influences, for an assurance of purposes - in the present.
50. The name then was Am-ne. In the experience the entity gained, and yet was often doubtful.
51. But the South American peoples, as well as those of the central or Yucatan land, or those of the far West, and the orientals, become of special interest in the experiences and affairs of the entity in the present.
52. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, and that to which it may attain, and how:
53. First, find self. Know thine ideal. Know Who and What is thy purpose.
54. Then, through those channels that will enable the body to apply self in a service to its fellow man, as to overcome the faults, the indeterminate experiences in the lives of others, the entity may find the greater harmony, the greater joy, the greater blessings in material, in mental, in spiritual benefits in this experience.
55. Great may be thy reward; great may be thy disappointment, - unless ye apply THAT ye indeed know to be the Way of Life.
56. Ready for questions.
57. (Q) How should I go about to make a financial success of my Personal Therapy Salon?
    (A) As has been indicated, first make it a mental and SPIRITUAL success in thy purposes and in thy desires, - and then the outgrowth, the result of applying same in that channel and for that purpose will be a natural thing. To bring not merely material gain but a mental and a spiritual experience in the lives of those ye would serve, - will bring the material, the financial success.
58. (Q) To whom shall I go to get the reducing cream financed?
    (A) This as we find may be through the associations of one with whom the entity is acquainted, - who has those connections or associates to whom such may be carried - KAHN.
59. (Q) Shall I let C. M. Burman have it?
    (A) Not until it has been carried into a more perfect, finished product, and not exploited but presented through those to whom this can be brought - in this manner indicated.
60. (Q) Should I try to get Lilly Dasche interested in having my Personsl Therapy Salon under her name in her building?
    (A) Not necessary for a financial success. If there is the determining within self that such can be fully trusted, very well - if it is the desire, to be free from much of the anxiety. But this is not the better manner, as we find.
    For if there is first set those principles as indicated, - see, it is not necessary to work so fast as to overlook the abilities of self and self's associates. For these will work if there will be that manner of application as indicated.
61. (Q) Can anything be given me as to proper procedure in disposing of the apartment at 1170 Fifth Avenue?
    (A) This as we find would be necessary to go through the regular channels, and not those of any specific nature other THAN through such channels.
62. (Q) How have I been associated in the past with my present sister, [1857], what are the urges in the present, and how may we meet them for our mutual development?
    (A) In the Palestine experience do we find there were the closer associations, though not in the same relationship which exists in the present. Here, in the present, we find the material associations - or as sisters. In those experiences there, we find the associations were in spirit and truth, but of a different nationality - being of different nations. And we find the same may be said to exist in the present, - they are of one purpose often, but their approaches to same are as far as the east from the west!
    It would be WELL if there would be the more often the counsel one to the other, and counseling together.
    If there will be kept that which has been indicated for this entity in its purpose, this may - the personal therapy - become a means, a channel for the glory of the Father in the associations with others.
    DO IT with that purpose, in that manner! and we will find it will become REAL - and not a sham!
