Dear Mr. Cayce:
I was very happy to have met you, even though it was just
for a minute, which didn't allow us much opportunity to
talk much.
If you recall, when you set a date to give me a reading this
Saturday, the 13th at 10:30 A.M. you suggested that I write
asking specific questions. I would first of all like to know
if it would be at all possible for you to give me a physical
reading at the appointed time, and a life reading in the
afternoon, or if not, then at your earliest possible
convenience (perhaps the following Saturday). The reason
for this request is that I feel that the two are strongly
bound together and, at least in my case, are of a
particularly urgent nature. Therefore I would like to
avoid as much delay as possible.
Regarding the physical reading, the important thing is to
discover what my ailment is, whence it comes, or what it is
caused by, and then how to cure it. Since I am practically
incapable of work or concentration over any length of time
it is of prime importance that these questions be answered
first.
I consider the life reading almost equally important because
even if I had my health I know that the matter of vocational
guidance would be the same. As heretofore I should continue
aimlessly on trying one thing after another with no definite
interests, no definite talents ands no definite direction,
facing an outlook and a future which appears to be empty,
grim, foreboding and almost terrifying.
I thank you for your past indulgence and sincerely hope that
you will find it within your power to help me. I shall await
your reply with eager anticipation.
Sincerely yours,

Dear Mr. Cayce:
This is to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 10th.
Since it is unfortunately impossible for you to give me both
the physical and the Life readings on Saturday I would prefer
to have the Physical reading at this time. I shall be in my
room in the attic of the above address either seated at my
desk or lying on my bed.
I am most anxious to know when you will be able to give me
an appointment date for the Life reading for reasons which
I have previously explained. Information which you may give
me as to the above at your earliest convenience would be very
greatly appreciated.
Thank you again and kindest regards,
Sincerely yours,

Dear Mr. [
1883]
Hope you are able to carry out the suggestions made for your
better health. Am sure you will be able to get real results
with the suggestion, carried out.
There are so many appointments ahead will be impossible to
get Life reading in until after the Congress as practically
every period is taken until that time.
But write me again about that time and will make the period
soon as can - but know you must get your physical condition
in shape to be able to do what ever may be suggested for your
life work.
Sincerely hoping to have been of a help

Dr. Henry S. W. Hardwicke

Dear Dr. Hardwicke:
I don't know whether or not you will remember me, but it may
help you if I mention that I met you at the Psychic Research
Society Meetings and at a Forum meeting in particular at
which Mr. Harold Sherman spoke.
If you will recall, I spoke to you at that time regarding an
ailment from which I am suffering. Acting upon your
suggestion I wrote to and have received a transcript of a
reading from Edgar Cayce. Inasmuch as I am unfamiliar with
the import of the contents I wonder if you would be kind
enough to translate or so interpret the text as to be
comprehensible to a physician.
Secondly I would ask whether if the above is unnecessary I
may submit my copy as is to the body of physicians at the
Hospital For the Ruptured and Crippled where I have been
receiving treatments and diagnosis unsuccessfully up to
the present. I ask this because I am uncertain as to the
relation of psychics to medicine and consequently how this
report would be received by the profession at large or in
the event of a favorable reception, what additional reports
or explanations are necessary.
I am writing you because I presume you are familiar with
these reports and their interpretation from your
experience and would therefore be in a position to advise
me accordingly. Below you will find what I consider to be
pertinent extracts for your consideration:-
[Extracts from reading]
The above is the content of almost the entire reading. What
puzzles me, and which you probably can explain is the fact
that X Rays taken at the clinic show no fractures as far as
I know.
Thank you for your very kind attention and for your prompt
reply. I am sure you will forgive me for presuming upon you
in this manner and that it is your sincere wish to help me
insofar as it is within your power to do so. Your keen
interest in my case is greatly appreciated.
Very sincerely yours,

Dear Mr. Cayce:
Following the receipt of my physical reading from you some
time ago I wrote to doctor Hardwicke, copy of letter [See
1883-1, Par R2 above] is enclosed herewith for your
enlightenment.
Unfortunately and to my deep sorrow I learned through your
bulletin that the doctor had passed on shortly before I had
written him. He was a splendid person whose acquaintance I
had barely made, and I was looking forward to come to know
him better.
Since learning of his passing I have, for the time being lost
all contact with members of the Psychic Research Society and
persons interested in the group. I am therefore writing you
to ask you if you can be of assistance as far as letting me
know whom I might consult for any additional help or
information you might give me regarding my case.
At this time I would also like to know if you could set a
date for the Life Reading.
Thank you for your very kind attention.
Very truly yours, [

Dear [
1883]
Have yours of the 21st - thank you. Wish you might have been
with us last week - possibly might have gotten a better idea
as to what it is all about.
Now Mr. [
1883], it is our desire to be of help to just as
many people as possible. However, we realize we are limited
to even the number we can try and help. From your letter to
Dr. H [See Par. R2 above] am sure you have not made
application of any of the information attempted in your
physical reading - even question same as to its help or
value.
And if you can't use that, how can you use the spiritual
approach to your experiences in the earth? Will be glad to
try and help at any time when am assured that that attempted
is and has been of us - but do not wish to give that time
where it might be real value to just what may be done.
Let me know when the first then has been of help. If so, yes
- if not, please say no. And let's find out why if possible
and see what might be done.
Hoping to be of a service
Sincerely [signed] Edgar Cayce

Dear Hugh Lynn:
A Mr. [
1883] was in the office this morning to see me about
a reading that was given him in May 1939. This reading
reported a fracture around the 10th rib. Examination shows
a decided osteopathic lesion in that area. He tells me that
X-Rays show no evidence of fracture. He also has some
lesions around the 4th & 5th lumbar vertebrae also a pelvis
that is twisted. He has been having treatments at a Medical
clinic in the city - injections, diathermy etc. I would say
that it is a clear cut osteopathic case and that we could
help him. Do you want me to take this man myself or send him
to the osteopathic clinic?
Are you going to be in town any time in the near future? I
have some thing that I want to talk over with you; if not,
I will wait. I would much rather talk the matter over than
write.
Mrs. [
1124] has had immeasurable relief from the last reading
we had for her.
Best regards to all the family,

Dear Dr. Dobbins,
Thank you for your letter regarding Mr. [
1883]. I would
suggest that you use your own discretion as regards to
handling this case or sending it to the clinic.
Tom Sugrue is still here and while he is here it will be
impossible for me to get away. I am trying to map out a
program in connection with building a vault for housing
the readings and office space for indexing and extracting
work on them. This work seems almost essential before we
can make any scientific presentations for foundations,
universities, or investigators. I am also trying to finish
my book [See
254-104, Par. 23-A--27-A]. I have found the
summer season at Virginia Beach not too good at a Time for
writing. It is probable that we'll have a lecture in New
York sometime in October and I shall certainly see you then.
If the matter you mentioned can wait, I'll be glad to talk
with you then. If not, drop me a line about it.
I am glad to know that Mrs. [
1124] was helped by the last
reading.
Sincerely yours, HLC

Dear Mr. Cayce:
In reference to your letter of August 2, 1939 [GD's note:
Not in A.R.E. files], I was quite pleased at your interest
in my case, especially as I feel terribly confused and at
a loss, due to the fact that I do not seem to be making any
progress.
Following your suggestion, I took the reading to Dr. Dobbins.
Dr. Dobbins examined me thoroughly without success. I
believe he wrote you more fully as to his examination.
There evidently seems to be something wrong as far as the
reading is concerned, because X Rays show that there has not
been any bones broken or injured in any way. Acting upon
Dr. Dobbins' suggestion I am therefore writing you to ask
if you could arrange another reading for me with your father.
I would be deeply grateful if the date set be the earliest
possible, because of the fact that I am not only not feeling
better, but am either feeling worse or my morale is weakening
after withstanding three years of suffering and anxiety.
Your early reply would be greatly appreciated.
Very sincerely yours,

Dear Mr. [

Your letter under an October date was misplaced in my files.
I regret this.
We are having check readings on Wednesday afternoon, January
17th. If you still desire that we attempt to secure
information for you kindly advise us as to just where you
will be and send any questions that you desire to have
answered.
I hope that the New Year will bring you greater health and
happiness.

Dear Mr. Cayce:
Your letter of January 10th is received and was indeed an
agreeable surprise. Naturally I share your regrets, however
I was very glad to hear from you and thank you for the very
kind sentiments expressed for my future well-being.
At the time mentioned for the check readings, namely
Wednesday afternoon, January 17th I shall be in an office
in downtown Manhattan. However, if this will not suit the
purpose, I shall be at home on Saturday January 20th if
it would meet your convenience.
Your early advice as to the above would be appreciated.
Again accept my thanks for your kindness, and for your
attention in this matter.

Dear Mr. [

We would have been glad to go ahead with the reading on the
afternoon of the 17th, but you failed to give us the address
where you would be that afternoon.
Another appointment is being made for the afternoon of
Tuesday, January 23rd. Kindly advise as to the exact
address between three-thirty and four-thirty.
You might call Dr. Dobbins and ask him if there is any
question that he would like to have asked in this reading.

Dear Mr. Cayce:
Your letter of the 16th was more than welcome because of
the good news it contained.
I am sorry that it was impossible for me to answer it sooner,
but I hope this reaches you in time to give you the
information you desire.
Between three-thirty and four-thirty on the afternoon of
Tuesday, January 23rd I shall be in an office which has no
street address since it is at the site of building
operations. It is, however, designated as the corner of
Centre and Leonard Streets, in Manhattan.
I hope this answers your purpose and that the reading will
contain the solution to my problems.
Yours very truly, [

Dear Mr. [

In spite of your air-mail and special delivery your letter
did not arrive until the afternoon of the 23rd after the
readings had begun.
I regret this delay and have asked my father to set another
period for you. This has been done.
Kindly advise me immediately just where you will be on the
afternoon of Thursday, February 1st.

Dear Mr. Cayce:
On May 13th, 1939 I was fortunate enough to receive a
physical reading, and was referred by Hugh Lynn Cayce
to Dr. Frank Dobbins of 551 5th Avenue for interpretation.
Accordingly, shortly after Hugh Lynn's letter to Dr. Dobbins,
I paid the doctor a visit. Dr. Dobbins, however, found that
the reading did not check with, nor explain my ailment.
Since that time I have been trying to arrange for a check
reading with you. One reason for my inability to do so
was the fact that a letter which I wrote you was only
unearthed by Hugh Lynn Cayce several months later, and
another that I was very ill for a time.
I would be deeply grateful if you would consider my case
worthy of your attention at this time, though I know your
schedule is overloaded, and grant me the privilege of a
check physical, and/or a life reading on any of the following
dates, at which time I will be available.
Saturday, April 13th; Sunday, April 14th, or Saturday, April
20th.
Your early advice will be appreciated.

Dear Mr. [
1883]
I am awfully sorry that we do not seem able to make
connection for your reading. My father's appointments were
all taken for the period we were in New York before we
arrived. I had hoped we would see you at the lecture.
Perhaps we were there and we did not have the opportunity to
meet.
I would like to set a date for a check-up reading for you
just as soon as we can be sure of the time. My father is
at present away for a short vacation and just as soon as he
returns, I will write you about a definite appointment.
Sincerely, Hugh Lynn Cayce
