This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 3rd day of June, 1931, in accordance with request made the by the self - Mr. [1909].

TEXT

1. GC: You will have before you the body and the enquiring mind of [1909], present in this room, and the life reading which was given for the entity through these sources on January 30, 1931. In this reading it was given that the entity was saved for a purpose. You will explain to him in detail just what this purpose is, and you will answer the questions which will be asked concerning the entity and his earthly manifestation:
2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, the enquiring mind, that entity named [1909], and the information as has been given concerning the entity's experience in the earth plane, and especially as reference to the present experience.
3. In considering purposes, aims, as we find, there are those things that become material, BUILDED by each individual entity in its reactions about those experiences of the entity THROUGH the earth's plane. When the purposes, the individuality as is manifested is such as to be in keeping with that which IS continuity of Life, Force, OR Purpose, these that are the CHANNELS of same may be termed by the laymen as to have charmed life, guardian angel, or an unseemingly experience that is NOT understood by those not EXPERIENCING such in THEIR life - see? This, then - as the entity has builded that in self that may redown [redound?] to the good of the MANY - may be termed saved for a purpose. The purpose, that the entity may have the opportunity to, in the present experience, carry ON - carry ON - that as has been DETERMINED WITHIN the INDIVIDUALITY WITHIN the entity itself!
4. (Q) What is the purpose or reason for re-incarnating or returning into the earth plane at this time?
   (A) To carry on that as has been builded by the entity in its experience through those periods as are given, are they paralleled as to what has been developing portion, what has been retarding portion, and WHY in each case. This may be easily drawn in a material manner.
5. (Q) In the incarnation as Alden in Salem, was the entity related to the entity then known as Mary Alden (now Mrs. [2112])? If so, what was the relationship?
   (A) Brother-in-law to that entity, persecuting the sister of that entity. Hence under the INFLUENCE of those very conditions as were found BY the entity, Alden, in the experience; that, while necessity, position or manner of expression of self demanded that the acts be carried on, in the placing of individuals in stocks, in bonds, even DIPPING same into the waters, and even tying the cats about the gates, the houses, the homes; yet felt from within that those so persecuted were NOT understood BY those persecuting those individuals. Hence the entity in its PRESENT experience stands oft again as a judge of him, or her, who IS MUCH in the same position as of old, and the entity itself gathers something OF the experience through SELF'S own visions, SELF'S own feelings. There may be found, among the records in the old Salem church about which much of this was carried on, as respecting the leader and as to the activities of Alden himself - see?
6. (Q) What is meant in my life reading "when the guardian angel stooped down to quell those fears that arose in the entity's self, as also when - in the garden - the entity followed in the ways that gave for an insight, etc."?
   (A) Just the SPIRITUAL representation of that as has been given as to the entity's purpose IN the present experience. Those of the material become activities in the entity as a physical being. In the angel stopping on the field, in the walking through the garden with the shadow about same - the entity was being guided, or guarded, or protected, that that as had been promised from the foundations of the world would be to each individual, "If ye will be my people I will be thy God." He that walketh is the light, and purposes in his heart to DO, BE, that which THE Creative Forces would HAVE one be, shall NOT be LEFT alone! for though he walk through the valley of the shadow of death, His arm, His hand, will direct thy ways. His rod, His staff, will comfort thee! Though they walk through green pastures, or in the ways that lead down to the sea, yet His Spirit, His arm, His face, will COMFORT thee in the WAY thou goest! When one, then, is so guarded, so guided, INDEED for a PURPOSE is one kept in the way! Be not unmindful of the necessity, then, that He that guideth shall SHOW the way! DO NOT attempt with thine short hands, thine poor vision, thine hardened heart, thine encasement in THIS sphere, to not give the credit where CREDIT due, nor censure where censure is due. Rather let thy yeas be yea, and thy nays be nay; for the way ye know, the MANNER ye know! DO NOT tempt the Lord, thy God!
7. (Q) In which specific place or capacity am I better fitted to serve in the new Association for the carrying on of this psychic work?
   (A) This, as we find, should be EASY for the entity to see, to understand, even by the QUESTIONS as have JUST been asked, as that as has JUST been given. There be many an individual, many a group, who depend much upon the ENTITY - body-mind of this entity - for their own existence, as to the work they MAY accomplish; yet the entity sees, knows, by the contact as is made, as is felt within self, that MANY an one of such group, of such peoples, are BEING led astray by those so close to the earth's forces as to really MISS the SPIRITUAL light. Then, as that contact between such groups, such individuals, may there come a more perfect understanding, that those who sit in the shadow may see the greater light. Why SHOULD such ones be guided by those in the borderland, those in the shadow or the vale, when the greater truths may be shown even THESE that sit in the shadow through their BETTER selves, their BETTER understanding, their better developments - see?
8. (Q) Should I remain active as student in or with Atlantic University? If so, how?
   (A) This channel offers, as we find, an opportunity for the entity, for the body, for a development that will - as time has its way of passing - that - that builded by same - can only be undone by same; and as this grows, as this expands, may not the entity be a channel, and a channel of blessings to many who - in the various ways, the various manners - are SEEKING a BETTER understanding of SPIRITUAL forces in SPIRITUAL places, among SPIRITUAL MINDED individuals!
