10/14/27 EC's Letter to [
1916]:
"I had been looking for a long time for that note of yours
of October 4th. Finally it came. I am in hopes that you are
finding your treatment better as you go along, and that you
are feeling you are getting real results from same. It won't
be a great while before you should have a check-up on the
treatments, and - as it were see if what should be happening
is happening. If not, why. And see 'What causes that?'
"We are coming along slowly with the hospital part of our
work here. We have recently had estimates from contractors
as to the cost of erecting such building as we desire, and
are considering these bids at this time, and we hope to be
able to let the contract sometime in the very near future -
for of course it will take some months to get the building
completed and ready. Like everything else, it requires
capital - and that's coming in slowly by degrees. But let's
just hope somebody with a whole lot of money - with a good
big open heart - will come along and see us through, that we
may have the chance to demonstrate what may be gained through
such an institution.
"Mr. Bradley was with us a few days ago. Possibly you met
him when he was in ... to see your father. He is one of our
trustees, you know, but it is the first time he has been on
the grounds to look over the situation at first hand. He
seemed to be very much enthused, and - as he expressed it
- 'This is one of the most constructive movements for the
education and betterment of human life that has ever been
attempted,' and I think this is a wonderful slogan for us
to have. But you who have had an opportunity to verify much
of the information given, will be better able to answer this,
possibly, than I.
"Yes, I'm in hopes when you're back next summer that you will
see the hospital running in full force, and I trust you will
always be glad to number yourself among the members of the
Association.
"Hugh Lynn is back at W & L. Seems to be getting along
alright. Gray is back at home - Hopkinsville, Ky., and is
going to school. Thomas - I don't know whether you met him
or not - Thomas House - another one of the boys - is here
going to school this year. He likes Virginia very much.
He's a member of the football team of the High School, and
if enthusiasm counts for anything I guess he'll go a long
ways. Yes, Hugh Lynn, Gray and Thomas, and Mrs. Cayce, all
went through ... the latter part of August. They were making
a very hurried trip, so didn't have the time or take the time
to call you as they went through - though they all regretted
very much not having a chance to see you all again.
"Well, the next time you want to write, you just keep on
writing - don't try to make any formal letter or note out
of it. Write just like you'd like to, for we are always
mighty glad to hear from you.
"Remember us to the folks at home whenever you see them or
write them. All here send their kindest personal regards."
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
