7/25/40 EC's ltr. to Mr. [
1931]:
Dear [
1931]
Good to have yours of the 17th and with the fearfully hot
weather we have been having here of late, one can't help
but be a bit jealous of you being so ideally situated there
on such a lovely boat at this appears to be from the map
enclosed. Hope everything is still going strong for you
and that you like the work as well as you did with the
beginning of it.
Ha, Ha! Expect you do strike some times when you get wobbly
on your pegs but you will get used to that soon and be right
there with the best of them.
The sights and sounds round there on those trips must be
wonderful and the fish jumping. Well, that makes me home
sick for a trip out on some lake stream or something for a
good day's fishing - but have been laid up with a cold for
several days now and a summer cold can make you feel worse
than Old Nick himself at a Christening. But, am glad to say
feel much better today, and hope have the worst of it behind
me.
That must have been a great sight the Grizzly with her cubs
- must be unusual for there to be three - don't think ever
heard of that before. Possibly all trying to keep up with
Mrs. Dionne or what ever the five little girl's mother is
named.
That fishing trip must have been great and fishing fine, am
sure. Would like that part of it even yet.
That will be a most interesting log to read - you better
give that to your Mother and let her write it as a reason
every one in the U.S.A. should visit Alaska - would sell
Alaska to the people that way.
The same old things come about - do they. The haircut, then
the old clothes and then have to meet the elite. Well, if
you could and did get over the first few minutes, then it was
alright, am sure. Bet you had just as good time as any of
them, didn't you.
Should imagine from just observation of his work on screen
that Morgan is a dandy good fellow and not a bit stuck up on
account of place or position is he???
Well, when you get a timber wolf send me the pelt - that
would make a fine rug for my cold feet some morning, tho,
not needed just now - but sure would like to have a good
pelt from up that way if run across one and don't cost much.
Send it along - will pay the freight.
Must have been amusing to meet some one by the same name -
but his [first] name wasn't [...], was it? And way you had
a few things in common to begin with. Certainly enjoy your
letters [
1931] and appreciate more than can tell, you taking
the time to write.
Here is hoping every thing is fine and will all good wishes
sincerely [signed] Edgar Cayce

NEW YORK
Dear Mr. Cayce:
Suppose you are wondering if a grizzly bear got me while in
the woods. No - I came out whole and strong as an ox and
plenty glad to see white men again.
Mother showed me your letter the day we set sail for Seattle
requesting a wolf skin. I scouted around looking for one and
was kind of jolted when I found one for $35 seeing that my
CCC total summer earnings was only $25 clear. I bought a
little two months old Husky with that and now am broke but
with plenty of good experience behind me.
Upon leaving, I was told that I might have picked up a good
wolf skin, untanned from The Alaska Game Comm. in Juneau.
I am going to write immediately and find out.
I would like to get you something like that. Mother
suggested that there was more warmth in a bear skin but
I informed her that Mr. Cayce wanted a wolf.
You might be interested to know that Mother has recovered a
good deal from her ailment by using the Castor Oil packs as
suggested [See
1506-2,
6/12/40] - but not complete recovery
- because the treatment was not taken all at one time. She,
by the way, is in Honolulu at present for a few months.
I have been re-instated at Penn State and as the reading
sayed [said] "The task is before thee. Do not go back on
thyself." Of course from now on it will be a different
story.
I am going to try to catch up with that wolf and send him
howling right to your doorstep.
Sincerely [
1931]
P.S. Would be interested to know how the Association work
is progressing.
9/26/40 EC's ltr. to Mr. [
1931]:
Dear [
1931]
Glad to have yours of the 24th. Yes, had begun to wonder
just what had happened to you. Glad to know you have been
reinstated and have determined to see it through. That is
fine, and you no doubt, from your experience have a real
incentive to make good - that is the spirit, you can and
am sure you will make good.
Certainly glad to know your Mother got some results with the
use of the suggestions - hope she doesn't neglect her self.
Give her our love when you write her - am sure she is having
a nice trip to Honolulu.
About the skin - you possibly know we are building offices
for the Ass'n work joining the home here - will have pretty
nice office and think a skin of some kind might be nice in
those rooms. Have it under cover now and hope to have a bit
of a dedicating ceremony next Sunday. Wish you might be with
us but hope we will be able to have it all fixed up by the
next time you get down this way. Will be pretty nice, if we
can - but it is the gift from our friends. And while you
were in Alaska would possibly have been easy and cheap to
have gotten a skin, but away anything that you might think of
will be fine - but thought you might wish to have something
personal to represent you.
The work in general is going very nicely - keeping busy and
suppose as we prepare to better take care of same will have
more to do.
Thanks for the quills - they are porky quills, aren't they?
If not what? Thanks any way - write when ever you find
chance.
With all good wishes
sincerely [signed] Edgar Cayce

Dear Mr. Cayce,
Guess you were beginning to wonder what ever became of the
[...] family with all their problems! Well, we are still
kicking around - one in Hawaii and the other here in Pa.
worrying about studies.
Just returned from a very wonderful vacation in California
with Mother, Sunday night. She arrived in San Francisco
the same day as I and we both proceeded to Los Angeles, and
a warmer climate with all possible speed. She tells me she
has bought a house somewhere in Hawaii and intends to live
there for a good long time to come. I don't know whether
the climate agrees with her or what but she looks five
years younger and has lost about fifteen lbs. Says she
has returned to lose fifteen more.
I have some wonderful Kodachrome movie pictures here which
Mother has taken in Alaska as well as Hawaii. I know you
would enjoy seeing the Hawaii ones with all of this cold
weather we are having.
We spent two days in Yosemite National Park taking shots of
"Big Trees", skiing and wildlife. It is, indeed, amazing
to watch the change of scenery as you gain altitude. At the
5000 ft elevation snow begins to form along the sides of the
road and at six and seven thousand feet, seven and eight feet
of snow is not uncommon. Down in the valley you may lay
around in the sun getting a swell sun tan while UP a few
thousand feet you freeze to death.
The grass is green there and it seemed as if summer had come
in all its glory. Fruit is on the trees and roses are
everywhere. Speaking of roses, I had the good fortune of
seeing the "Rose Festival" and the "Rose Bowl" game which
you no doubt listened to. Never in my life have ever seen
anything more colorful! A good many of the movie stars were
present to add a little more glory to us wide-eyed
"Easterners."
Surely would like to hear from you, Mr. Cayce, and how the
work is coming. If you find time, I wish you would drop me
a line.
Sincerely [

1931]:
Dear [
1931]
Here we were discussing you yesterday afternoon, wondering
where you were and your letter of the 9th comes this morning
- thanks.
That certainly was a very lovely vacation, have heard a lot
from the boys about the Valley. They went there on one of
their trips out west, but to be where you observe the changes
in climate like that must be really awe inspiring. So, your
Mother has decided to live in Hawaii for a time, that too,
must be a lovely. Had a couple of friends [[
1770] and
[
1771]] that have just come back from there. They spent
a year there and they often wrote me descriptions of trips
about the islands there. Certainly has made me wish to make
the trip some time. Then too, one of my boys - or he calls
himself my boy [
1641] - who is in the navy is attached to
the Enterprise. He spent some time there - sent me several
momentos from the place. As one of the ladies sent me a box
from there for Christmas - also a Lei - quite unique - must
be a lovely place.
And you are at the grind again. That is where one has to
make up for all the pleasant things I guess, but the Game
and the parade on News day must have been lovely. Is fine
even to listen to the description of same on the radio -
and the game that was good - the team win that you were
rooting for??
We are going through changes here at the Beach with the great
number of soldiers at Ft. Story and the thousands at Camp
Pendleton as they now call the Rifle Range. The place looks
like a soldier's town. They haven't enough homes for the
officers and their families, it seems. And many new places
are being built - keeps many place on the front open too,
even tho they haven't heat in them. So many workmen need
places to sleep they take most any thing.
Some changes round our place also. Many of our members have
tried to make it possible for us to have an office and safe
place for records - so have that so we can use it. Haven't
it finished as yet but can use it for offices and helps out
too. Hugh Lynn was called in the draft for the 10th - but
when he explained to local board the expansion work here they
have given him until the call in June to try and get it
finished up. So we are making special effort and are sending
out the old typewrite line "Now is the time for all good
members to come to the aid of the Ass'n."
Have started the indexing of the data so the Psychology and
research workers can see what Documentary proof we have as
to the value of Psychic information may be to many - causing
a bit of interest here and there and all are clamoring for
us to get it ready.
Beautiful weather here just now. Cool but clear and bright
makes one feel good to just get out.
Glad to hear from you [...] and hope you make the grade with
out too much exertion. Let me hear from you - remember me to
your Mother when you write her. Tell her to let us hear from
her.
With all good wishes

SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY
Dear Mr. Cayce:
It seems as though I never will attend another Association
Conference. Each summer, home seems just a little out of
reach when Alaska & the Penn. Mountains are calling. Guess
next summer will be the same for it will be Plattsburg, New
York for advanced R.O.T.C. training.
Spent a fine summer in the woods near State College, Pa
finishing up on the forest ranger work - timber cruising,
rattlesnakes etc. I had the good fortune of getting into
the N.Y. State College of Forestry here at Syracuse
University this year with Junior standing. To blow my own
born more - I was made drum major for the University because
of height caused from turnip greens, corn bread and ...
sunshine. I imagine a lot of fellows would give their
right arm to hold down that position but it is a little too
much show off for me.
Mr. Cayce, I have run up against another stone wall which
seems, at the present, a little too high to see over. Would
it be possible to get a check reading at an early date?
Sincerely [

SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY
Dear Dr. Cayce
The morning of the 10th is fine. Hope this gets to you in
time to make the appointment. I will be here at ... Ave.
Here are some of the questions that seem pretty important
at present.
1. What change should I make and where in January?
2. Is the Army advisable at this time?
3. In what activity may I progress and find contentment
at present.
4. With my present knowledge is there any position which
I might fill?
5. After this world crisis what will be the status of
Conservation & forestry?
6. Where may I find the stone lapis lazuli or lapis linguis?
I have written to mother to be present at the time and she
will take care of the rest.
Thanks again for the helping hand.
Sincerely [
1931]
