8/31/60 Letter from [
1934] to GD:
..., New York
Dear Gladys,
I am sorry not to have answered your nice letter sooner.
I feel highly honored to think that you and Hugh Lynn have
asked me to be on the panel discussion, in the N.Y. lectures.
I would love to do it if I felt that I were qualified, and
able to do it, but I am sure that I am not. Then too, I have
such a very busy schedule that I wouldn't have time to do it.
You see Mother [
1841] has almost lost her eye-sight, not
completely - but enough so that all of the responsibility
falls on me - household duties, marketing, reading to her -
and a million other things, which I am very happy to do.
Then too, I am still teaching piano 6 days a week with a full
class. Dad is a great deal of help and he is well & able
though somewhat deaf & wears a hearing aid. We have tried
everything for Mother in the way of medical care - but no
help, so far. How many times we have wished Edgar Cayce were
alive & could help us. But we have not given up hope &
faith. We have recently heard about Ambrose Worrall in
Baltimore - through Wainright House (I am in very close touch
with Wainright House & Laymen's Movement - have known Susie
Huckabee for years. We hope that Mr. Worrall may help some.
We don't see Dave Kahn very often but try to keep in touch
with him. Of course I see & hear from Judy Chandler quite
often and hear about you all at V. Beach.
This last May I returned from a three months trip "Around -
the - World". This most exciting, interesting, and
enlightening thing that's every happened to me. I went with
a "group tour" - 18 people, and a MOST unusual group. Five
of them were close friends and the leader my neighbor, Prof.
Jack Arends from Teacher's College at Columbia. I surely
saw many peoples of different faiths & many churches, mosques
and temples etc. I had a strange feeling that I had been to
most of those places before, in former incarnations -
especially in Egypt. We started from Los Angeles - went to
22 countries. I saw the Birdsong's in Honolulu, also our
missionary in Hongkong. Well, I mustn't bore you - but I
could go on for ever about the trip. And now I am dying to
go again - but no money! Ha!
It was SO nice to hear from you again, and I do hope to hear
AGAIN from you. I would be interested in hearing about the
N.Y. lectures.
My best regards to you & Hugh Lynn,
Sincerely, [
1934]
