4/16/41 EC's letter to [
2067]:
Dear Dr. [
2067]
Thank you for yours of the 11th - you are most complementary
but please don't compare me to any thing Divine, for am very
human, too much so for my own good am sure. Do hope the
information will be of a help, for no matter how marvelous it
may appear, is worthless unless it can be of practical value,
am sure Dr. [
2067], you realize there are many questions that
we must answer for ourselves, and to preclude ones own will.
Well, God doesn't even do that, we must choose for ourselves.
Now in trying to answer your question - wish might sit down
and talk with you, for naturally from your own experience and
reading you have many preconceived ideas, and any explanation
therefore only makes questions. But Please don't try and fit
the reading, if the readings are not an explanation of the
GOSPEL then please discard them all together. For if the
source isn't the same source, don't have any thing to do
with them at all - for they are very harmful - if they do
not comply with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The need for Blood atonement - is not because of the Anger
of God as I understand, but because of HIS Unchangeableness.
When He said man would Die if he sinned HE meant it - and
Jesus the man - in living the blameless life and being
willing to die, fulfilled the law - by offering Himself as
a sacrifice, for HE could have Willfully not have died - but
willing to Die He brought LIFE more abundantly to all, made
the way for all. Under the Mosaic law - there was blood
sacrifice, not as other than the emblem of the releasing
in blood - the Life - as each has to do, and that Jesus did
once for all. By one man - Sin Came - by one man - (the same
man) Life came - by the giving of His life Blood. Then the
necessity of Blood sacrifice - indicates the sureness of
God's promises. What HE has and does promise He fulfills,
because we count time, and do not realize, all is ONE and
because we have a bad year or two we begin to feel he has
forgotten - HE cannot forget. It is we who do. IF, if
re-incarnation be true, then Jesus must have re-incarnated
also. HE did all He asks us to do. When we consider His
life and the promises of God regarding the manner of life, in
man we find HE fulfills all as is asked and required of man.
As Adam, He knew not Birth, but did know death - as Enoch he
knew birth but did not know death. As Melkizedeck he knew
neither birth nor death - as Joseph He knew all the pangs of
life, a pattern of his life as the Master. As Joshua, the
leader, as Jeshua, the recorder of all as had been. As Jesus
the life as sacrifice - for he Knew Himself to be Himself,
yet - came to fulfill the LAW, thus becoming the Law. The
Law then remains - those who live by the law, meet all they
who live by faith in HIM are no longer under the law, save of
Grace. In the material world law - mental Grace - spiritual
Wisdom.
That is possibly very crudely given - and causes thousand
questions more or less to arise in your mind - but study it
over - see if it doesn't conform. If not please disregard
entirely. And to be sure it must answer to something within
yourself. That Spirit that beareth Witness - with thy
spirit.
"Tho He were the Son - yet, learned He obedience through the
things which He suffered" in a material world, in Himself He
Knew - and as you will see in John 1 - that he gives as the
reason John the Baptist had not fully arrived.
Do hope you are feeling much better - love from all

New York City
Dear Mr. Edgar Cayce:
Thank you very much for your letter of April 16 in answer to
some of my personal questions. Yes, I know, as you say, that
it is very much better to talk these things over face to face
- and I look forward to another opportunity of this sort. It
is almost impossible to answer questions by mail that do not
have other questions, as you suggest arising. However, I
appreciate your kindness in doing what you could to help,
and it has helped. You know I am very serious in all these
matters, for they represent my very life.
It is a matter of more light, more direction in regard
to fitting one thing with another. Often times a little
explanation can make things to dovetail without any strain
anywhere. I get much of this from the Readings - they
open up the Gospel message in a way so that some of us can
understand it, whereas otherwise we would pass it by as
out of date and not applying at all to our time - even
unthinkable at any time. But the Readings clarify many of
these points. I am praying for light constantly, and hope
you will do likewise for me. Once can do much better work
when one understands.
I am wondering if I am right as I reread your letter many
times and think I discover that the man who sinned is
really the Man who paid the price? That rally there is no
substitution? You say that Christ was the first Adam and
also the second Adam. That would make things very clear and
absolutely just. I never can understand people not reaping
what they sow - or having another pay a price for them
when they have done nothing to deserve it - it seems so to
clash with the idea of reincarnation which to me has been
absolutely proven many times, and seems the only just and
sensible way of explaining the universe.
I am thankful for the added information you gave me on the
incarnations of Christ.
4/21/41 EC's letter to [
2067]:
Dear Dr. [
2067]
Thank you for yours of the 18th - now that we will be in N.Y.
for two weeks beginning the 28th of this month - we will be
at Mr. Kahn's. Am sure you have had notices tho - do hope
you will find the time to come in possibly some evening and
we may have a good long talk, lets see if we can't answer
some of the questions that might be of a help - we will
just try and reason together a bit.
Correct - the man who sinned is the man who paid - just as
each man does, and that he did pay the price - through his
divine help, we too can pay and it be easy for us to do so -
with the full assurance we live eternally.
Think you will be able to corner H.L. long enough to find out
a few questions you wish to ask, quite as easy as it would
be for me to corner him here I expect, there are some two or
three working on papers here so he can tell you what it is
all about - he will come up with us and will stay until after
the meeting on Tuesday night at the Shelton Hotel again.
Hoping then to see you and with all good wishes.
Sincerely [signed] Edgar Cayce
