READING 2089-1
F 44

This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 9th day of February, 1940, in accordance with request made by the mother-in-law, Mrs. [...] new Associate Member of the Ass'n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mrs. [1837].

Present: Edgar Cayce; Hugh Lynn Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Methodist Hosp.,

Time and Place: 10:45 to 10:50 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. Los Angeles, Cal. 29th & Hope St.,

TEXT

  1. HLC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:
  2. EC: Yes.
  3. As we find, there is the recovering from anaesthetization and from operative forces. These conditions in the present are progressing not satisfactorily in some ways, and yet MOST satisfactorily in others.
  4. There should not be a hindrance or any change in the administrations being made for the body, as we find.
  5. The only suggestions we would make would be for a more hopeful, helpful and creative outlook or attitude.
  6. Then, later, - when there is the ability for the body to make personal applications of some suggestions as may be made through this channel, for the eliminating of the effects of the anaesthesia, - these may be helpful. This would be after a period of some six to eight weeks.
  7. In the present, then, keep the mental attitudes in a hopeful manner; that there may be the using of self's abilities in the manifestations of the ideals in a constructive manner towards spiritual influences and forces.
  8. Ready for questions.
  9. We are through for the present.

BACKGROUND

  1. 1/31/40 Mother-in-law's letter: "She was operated on yesterday at the Methodist Hospital... I understood from Miss [2113] that you have great healing power. Mrs. [1837] tells me that you give a diagnosis. I hope you have both gifts, but whatever you do for my darling [2089] I shall thank you for with a grateful heart!"

REPORTS

  1. 2/09/40 Letter to Mother-in-law from Hugh Lynn Cayce:
"We are enclosing the Reading obtained this morning for your daughter-in-law in Los Angeles. Evidently, it would be unwise to interfere with any of the recuperative treatments that are being given in the hospital at this time. Just as soon as she goes home from the hospital, please advise us and we will make another appointment for a Reading - as is indicated in this information would be advisable. I'm sure that then we will be able to secure a complete analysis of her condition and suggestions for treatments. At this time it would be difficult to get any treatments carried out in the hospital that might be suggested.
"Of course, there would be no charge - further charge on your membership - for such an additional Reading.
"We are looking forward to seeing you on the 21st. I am writing Miss [2113] regarding the hotels, as I had a note the other day from her requesting this information."
    Sincerely, HLC
  2. 2/12/40 Mother-in-law's letter:
"A thousand thanks for the message from your father. He is quite right, she is doing very well but there is something wrong. I shall be grateful for the second Reading - and will let you know when she goes home. The Doctors say, frankly, that they do not know what is the matter. There is a large swelling the size of an orange. They do not know what it is and could not remove it, when they attached her intestine to her stomach for fear it might start a hemorrhage which they could not stop.
"She is such a darling and I shall be so very grateful for any help your father can give her. I regret that my son and his wife cannot go with us & I must give up the two readings for February 23rd."
  3. 2/29/40 Letter: "I have read my sister [2109]'s two most interesting papers with keen enjoyment."
  4. 3/03/40 She wired for a second Physical Reading for Mrs. [2089].
She also phoned HLC saying: "They have discovered a cyst the size of an egg, don't know whether it is malignant or not; I am going out there immediately and want to know just how serious it is and what to try and influence the doctors to do."
  5. 4/04/40 See 2089-2.
