"You were kind to ask for an up-to-date report on my Life
Reading which took place on
2/22/40.
"I'm afraid I could never go into all the many subtle ways it
proved helpful in meeting the various psychological problems
and life experiences which have come my way. However, I
can say that it 'hit me where I live', so to speak, pointed
out weaknesses which we've tried to correct, and definitely
directed the so called inner 'urges' into constructive and
fruitful channels.
"Enclosed are some copied excerpts from my reading [2113-1,
Par. 11--13, 51-A] which have a bearing on some of my
creative activities, which, in turn, are illustrated by other
enclosures, plus a small book which is in the mail (that I
wrote about 'Nancy').
"My 'writing abilities' are rather feeble, me thinks, in THIS
life! However, having been 'scribe to the King' in ancient
Egypt, I've at least followed suit in this sojourn by
becoming Scribe to the 'Queen of the mighty New York
Hippodrome'! (Trust we DID BETTER in Egypt?)
"In any case, we both hope you will enjoy having our little
book in your library for the benefit of any members or
visitors who are interested in singing (?).
"'Nancy'...(mentioned in the question 3 [Par. 51-A] part of
the reading) and I have lived together harmoniously for about
33 yrs., now, and as E.C. said (Answer 3 [Par. 51-A]) we have
'the liking for, and abilities for, the analyzing of the same
character of conditions.' Also, 'the attraction, one for the
other, is for their mutual advantage, or for helpfulness in
the experience of each.' Nothing could be truer!
"The photos of portrait bas-reliefs are proofs of the
artistic tendencies mentioned and give considerable evidence
of REINCARNATION since we never studied sculpture or had any
training in it at all. We started out filling commissions
almost from the first moment we touched clay. It was an
instinctive thing which welled up from INSIDE. However, I
had to be in the right RECEPTIVE MOOD or nothing could be
accomplished at all. Working in the wee small hours was best
for then my conscious mind was not so active and inhibitive.
All of which proves this work was purely inspirational.
(Note our attention to 'MINUTIA and detail'.)
"I have no idea WHY I chose to do a portrait of Pope Pius
except his profile was very intriguing. However, it proved
of interest to the Catholic 'high brass' out here and a
remark made by Cardinal McIntyre helped me realize THIS
work, in particular, was guided by a HIGHER power!
"A prominent member of the clergy had suggested that we
present one of the plaques of the Pontiff to the Cardinal.
So, the appointment was made at his Chancery office. His
Grace (?) was very cordial and appreciative. (The 7-1/2"x
6-1/2" plaque had been treated to look like old ivory and was
set in an Italian style frame with a Cardinal red velvet mat.
A small picture light insured the best lighting from above.)
"The Cardinal studied the portrait for quite a while in
silence. Then he invited me into his private study where he
showed me a large copy of the photograph by 'Karsh of Ottawa'
which I had used for my model. (His copy was a gift and had
been inscribed by the famous Photographer.)
"Well, it seemed that Cardinal McIntyre had been on very
friendly terms with Pope Pius and knew his facial expressions
intimately. So he held up the framed plaque next to Karsh's
photograph and pointed out what he considered a strange and
moving fact.
"He said that the PHOTO reflected the Pope's expression,
perfectly, in a contemplative mood at THAT time. However,
some time AFTER the photo was taken, His Holiness experienced
his rather widely publicized vision of The Master in his
private garden when he was given several revelations about
his life in the years ahead.
"After that soul-shattering experience, those close to the
Pope noticed a great change in his appearance. He seemed
to be only partly in this world, with his eyes focused on a
distant shore, as it were.
"Needless to say, when the Cardinal indicated this change
of expression had been mysteriously caught in the plaque,
we felt stunned, grateful and happy, as well humble, beyond
measure, for my PERSONAL SELF could not possibly have
realized or accomplished anything so subtle as this.
"Please forgive me if this tale seems like bragging, but I
felt you would understand how these things happen, and why.
"The very fact of my not being a Catholic caused people in
the Church to be more interested in the portrait, for some
reason, and it was ordered for schools, retreats, a newspaper
office (The Tidings), many of the clergy's homes, shops,
etc., etc. I really wonder about it all as it was originally
made with nothing commercial in view. Maybe THAT was the
secret!?
"Actually, there isn't anything very dramatic to tell about
my life, though, for ME, it has been filled with many joys,
thrilling experiences and boundless opportunities for growth
and development along spiritual lines.
"We've been privileged to be brought in contact with people
of every nationality, race and class, and though some of our
activities have reached the 'MASSES', in various ways, it
has always been 'through INDIVIDUAL application or individual
relationships' (See 2113-1, Par. 14). No one has ever been
able to get me up before a large group or on a platform! I
just know that's NOT FOR ME and dear Edgar Cayce saw that,
bless him!
"Sad to relate, my dear friend and partner, 'Nancy' [...],
has become steadily weaker, these past years (she is now in
her 80's) so that my greatest concern, at present, is looking
after her needs. However, she is still a delightful, bright,
witty companion and gives occasional voice lessons when she
feels up to it. (She has suffered several heart attacks.)
"To our amazement, a young man from Pakistan phoned her
several months ago, saying he had bought her little book,
'Singing Can be Ecstasy', in Tokyo (of all places!) 3 yrs.
ago, and vowed he would try to study with her when he came to
the U.S. It seems he had studied voice in several capitals
of Europe, and read many books on the subject, but hers was
the first one which made sense to him! So, they are now
working together and Akmal Parivez is making good progress.
"Rather an unusual story, wouldn't you say?
"The book is now out of print but a literary agent is
interested in getting it on the market again through
a commercial publishing house. So, please hold a good
thought for us!
"Surely, this is enough about this 'entity'!? You didn't
know what you were starting when you asked if there was
anything we could report about the reading.
"As a matter of fact, I didn't know just what kind of proof
or corroboration you would want, so I've done the best I
could. Sorry it's not more STARTLING or EVIDENTIAL to a
researcher, though for me, personally, the reading has been
JUST THAT over the years. 'Edgar Cayce warned me NOT TO
MARRY' and I have taken that advice, so far! The usual
domestic marriage would have been murder for me. However,
an old age 'traveling companionship' MIGHT work out, but I'm
not too sure!? We may not know what the future holds, but
we DO KNOW WHO holds the future, so I'm taking each day as
it comes. God bless you, dear Gladys, and someday we will
surely meet again." With love, [

P.S. "We tried to do something constructive, along
numerological lines, at a very nice restaurant in
Westwood Village, one summer.
"I know I learned plenty from the experience, as heretofore,
we had only done it for friends, charity, etc., but the
GENERAL PUBLIC really puts one to the test!
"Of course, some knowledge of astrology helps!" (Par. 12 of
my reading touches on interests along these lines.)
