HAROLD E. HARTER, MANAGER
Dear Mr. Cayce:
Since my very interesting visit to Virginia Beach I have
often wanted to ask more of you, but in keeping with the
times I have felt extremely poor and frankly too much so
to afford the luxury of another reading.
I cannot say that your first reading has proven out or not.
I simply do not pretend to understand. It lends itself to
many interpretations and I am afraid I can never make it
very useful to my needs.
However, I would like to submit more specifically some of
the problems that are puzzling me. While I am not alone with
troubles they are none the less trying and I will appreciate
what advice you can offer within the scope of one reading.
First I would ask the following questions concerning my
present business:
(1) Can you give me any indication of whether we can be
successful with the new "midget" electric washer and dryer,
we are preparing to introduce early in June. Have you any
suggestions as to price policies and selling or advertising
plans?
(2) Should we be satisfied with a proven "compressor unit"
such as Zerozone, or seek something with exclusive patented
features for our new electric refrigerator. (Isn't it quite
a coincidence that Ben Lauterstein should head Zerozone who
are trying hard to sell us their unit?)
(3) Does the electric refrigeration field hold success for
us?
(4) Or should we re-open negotiations for a new gas
refrigerator?
(5) Should we try to feature a $99.00 low price leader in
our new refrigerator line, or just a good medium price line
competing with the best in the field.
(6) How about our selling policy? Can we successfully sell
to the department store and furniture store field eliminating
the distributor or jobber, with our own salesmen, operating
out of district offices, which we may term "factory
branches"?
(7) Can we get the new oscillating type compressors,
negotiations for which we are now pushing? It has
outstanding advantages over anything ever before developed
in the electric refrigeration field, but would require
perhaps six months to develop for volume manufacture, &
involve a big purchase price from the inventor.
Merchandizing would also involve a substantial advertising
campaign. We don't know where we stand in these
negotiations, and have been anxious to bring them to
successful termination.
(6) What possibilities do you see for us in the electric
plate ironer submitted for our consideration?
(7) What possibilities in the new dry cleaning machine?
(8) In the commercial and office wood tile and block flooring
invention?
(9) Would Leighton C. Leigh of Grand Rapids, make a good
assistant for me in charge of sales department routine and
correspondence, and generally?
(10) What general advice can you offer as to my procedure
with my new employer and associate?
(11) My first reading said that things with my old ...
connections would be settled by September, which I interpret
to mean that my old firm and my T... suit will wind up in
September. Please interpret this more specifically, as
I think I have found the congenial associations mentioned
elsewhere in that reading in which I can be successful. you
will recall, though, that you thought the reading meant that
I would not be settled in those congenial relations until
September.
(12) My suite against T... has again been postponed. But I
have secured a powerful deposition in the case in my favor.
Your first reading said the suit would be carried on but
that it might be settled otherwise. Please answer this more
specifically. My attorneys, and they are of high repute,
have sought settlement without success. Am I going to win
this case? Is there anything else I should do about it?
(13) You advised me to sell my house in ... [not so!]. This
I have been unable to do. I can't even rent it for half
enough to pay carrying charges. Yet it is one of the very
desirable and beautiful properties of ..., and bought at low
price. Should I hang on? Will I find a buyer? Or a good
tenant?
(14) Now a very personal and confidential question. Mrs.
[...] and I have not been compatible and I am sorely tried to
know what I should do to best provide for her happiness and
the future of our four year old adopted son, as well as my
own. Your advice will be welcome.
I am giving you a big order friend Cayce, and close personal
confidences.
I will be in Louisville until Thursday of this week, then
will be in Chicago for a day or two.
If you can definitely give me this reading Wednesday morning,
I will be in my office between 8 and 9 am Central Standard
Time, and I am sending this air mail in hope that you can
make the Wednesday appointment.
Otherwise, wire me for a definite hour at my residence.
