3/04/41 Letter from HLC: Dear Mrs. [
2174]: "Enclosed is
a report on the Association affairs. I want you to be
acquainted with our activities and program.
"Within the coming year my father's work will receive wide
public attention. We must be ready to answer for the faith
that is within.
"Thomas Sugrue is writing on the book on Dad's life and work.
This book as you know has already been contracted for by
Henry Holt and Co. It is necessary for me to work closely
with him on this. In preparation for the publicity resulting
from the book we must be ready with larger amounts and more
complete publications in printed booklet form and research
papers. We are at present out of some of our best printed
material so it is an excellent time for revision.
"It also seems most desirable that we have our indexing and
extracting work well under way. Through this index system
covering by subject all of the information in readings, it
will be possible for anyone to see clearly the extent and
variety of the material. It is quite possible that the book
will attract scientific interest and pave the way for more
thorough research work.
"In the face of this program I am called for service in June.
The time is short and the work to be done beyond my powers
unless help comes in some form.
"It seems reasonable and business-like that the Association
borrow the needed funds for immediate publication work and
clerical help to prepare for these developments. Such a
loan could be covered by all monies coming into the Expansion
Program Fund. The following methods will bring income to
this fund: a special edition of my father's book, prints of
the original etching being used in the book to be sold, a
benefit program in N.Y. in April, and contributions from
members of the Association as letters are written to them.
Naturally interest would be paid and notes given covering
the loan.
"The shortness of the time and the urgent need for these
preparations presses me to seek this method of securing
the funds for immediate use.
"Considering this situation would it be possible for you
to lend us two or one thousand dollars? I will be glad to
come to N.Y. immediately to discuss this matter in detail.
My father's work is worthy of a fair, well balanced
presentation. As this book goes out, I do so want the proper
background preparation in the form of publications, indexes,
extracted material and offices for presentation.
"Dad tells me that we may expect to see you in the not too
distant future. We were glad to know that your son has been
stationed here. I called the camp, but could not reach him
without more detailed information on his company. Mother has
written him a note asking that he get in touch with us.
"With love from all," Sincerely, HLC
GD's note: My memory seems to recall that she visited EC and
GAVE A.R.E. a good contribution for furthering the program.

2174]'s next Mental-Spiritual Reading
